I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

eh mathanxiety Hmm
What was that about ?

Thestrangestthing · 28/01/2020 12:53

I bought a cheap Addis steam mop today. I'm quite impressed. I don't like the sticky residue that cleaning products leave on the floors so I have to say, I think this might be my new favourite product.

beanaseireann · 28/01/2020 19:24

@mathanxiety What was that post about ???Hmm

beanaseireann · 28/01/2020 19:25

I understand now. The Zara perfume for €6 Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/01/2020 19:36

Steam mops have no place on this thread! Haven't you read the RULES?! Grin

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Blush ok ok, my bad, I'll ask no more, but to be fair, I would find not dragging out a mop twice a day a luxury! I'm going to look into the robot mop/vacuum Grin

Definitely yes to nice lounge wear, and I've also invested in some good quality pj's - these make me happy. Better? Wink

mathanxiety · 29/01/2020 03:39

Yes, the perfume - and thank you again.

Thestrangestthing · 29/01/2020 07:54

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie sorry but the steam mop has already made my life better. No more sticky floors.

I got a baseline spray on moisturiser before Christmas. Now, I know you're probably thinking it wouldn't make much difference, but it's so much quicker, the moisturiser isn't too thich and now I can reach the top of my back without hurting myself.

Thestrangestthing · 29/01/2020 07:55

Vaseline, not baseline 🙄

Thestrangestthing · 29/01/2020 07:56

Thick, not thich. Ffs!

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/01/2020 10:26

To be fair, having a steam mop only makes my DH's life easier. My life of luxury is untroubled Grin

Rosebud21 · 29/01/2020 10:43

@TeaAndStrumpets Grin Star

TeaAndStrumpets · 29/01/2020 12:49

The exercise is good for him, rosebud !

I think this fits the rules. Amazon had them for £70 the other day.

Some of my tips:

Change all your accessible plug sockets for ones with integrated USB ports. I have two in the kitchen like this, it's nearer as no plug in chargers.
In the bedrooms I have four gang extensions which have USB ports, so the lamp, hairdryer etc can be plugged in and phone charger leads directly into the adaptor and again no bulky charger plugs. Good for visitors too.

In the living room I have a plug tower with six sockets and four USB. Has the lamp, laptop (or two) and usually one phone but sometimes two on charge.

Buy Sterodent or whatever it's called for false teeth. Transfer to a jar in the bathroom. Throw one down the loo now and then, keeps scale away. Use the Tube for pound coins in the car or as pocket money tubes for the kids/school money etc.

I do a tray of roasted veg each weekend and roasted spicy cauliflower, put them in tubs in the fridge and add to salads for work lunches or add to dinner. Can be used cold or reaheated, added to cous cous etc. Squash, courgette and celeriac current favourites.

I also chop a pineapple on a Sunday and tub up, add some pomegranate seeds, should make four or five mini fruit salads to take to work.

I've changed to online shopping, it has its downside but right now it's making my life easier.

Keep a vacuum cleaner on every floor, I started this when I had a three storey house but I still do it now. Also, cleaning stuff in each loo/bathroom so you don't have to go and get them to do a bit of cleaning.

Keep a couple of those collapsible trays near the front door ready to move grocery deliveries into. They don't take up much room when flattened.

I use tubs for everything. And those Lakeland ones with the handle on are great for small things in the kitchen cupboard and easy to lift out to check - I keep all the flavourings and food colouring type stuff in one of those. I keep almost all packaging, and I reuse anything as a bin bag. Especially those free charity bags you get and outer bags from clothes deliveries (if I'm not sending anything back).

I used to regularly have my lashes permed. But last year I bit the bullet and paid a lot for genuine Shu Umera eyelash curlers. They are amazing and I have curly, fluttery lashes every day Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/01/2020 18:30

PartyintheKitchen - you are forgiven.

I've decided something else I 'need' which will (I'm sure) improve my life - a really nice, big hair clip!

OP posts:
VanGoghsDog · 29/01/2020 21:50

I have just ordered two things I hope will improve my life - a 260ml Chilly bottle, I have a 500ml one but it's too big for most handbags. I have smaller bottles but not ones that stay cold.

And an attachment for the shower head that softens the water. I tried to clean the shower today and the hard water annoys me so much. Hopefully this will make things seem cleaner and could possibly make my hair and skin better and use less shampoo etc. Fingers firmly crossed.

didireallysaythat · 29/01/2020 23:18

@peaceanddove could I trouble you for a link to the curlers? I had a set of Shu Umera and they were absolutely useless (unless you like kinked eyelashes) but I suspect there's more than one model

LonginesPrime · 30/01/2020 10:33

Total game changer and had my first night sleep without getting tangled in the sheet last night.

You can also get little elasticated clips (they look like tiny trouser braces) to clip underneath each mattress corner to stop the corners from coming up (although I agree it helps to have the right size sheets for the deep mattress too!).

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/01/2020 11:06

@VanGoghsDog

Could you link to the shower head please?.

VanGoghsDog · 30/01/2020 11:39

@Fluffycloudland77

Every time I try to open it the app opens, it's really annoying, and I can't work out how to do a link to the app! Anyway, pop this in Amazon and it should come up:

Cadrim Shower Filter, Chrome 15 Stage Universal Replaceable Shower Head Water Purifier with 2 Filter Cartridges and 1 Teflon Tape

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/01/2020 11:53

Thank you so much that links worked.

Joyfulincolour · 31/01/2020 08:52

I use fleece blankets on the bed instead of sheets. Lovely and warm and snuggly. It is so much easier making the bed too.
We’ve found using those Gousto boxes really helpful too. Meal planning is all done for you. We just then do an online shop every 2 weeks for other bits. It’s saved us money and we’re wasting less food too.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 01/02/2020 00:51

I keep my spare duvet between my sheet & my mattress. Lovely & soft.
