I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

@aufaitaccompli

Could you link the one you have. Something I've been thinking about getting but want to get a good one.

PartyintheKitchen · 27/01/2020 13:20

Loving this thread, thank you OP for starting it.

I bought really good pillows a few months ago, has improved our sleep so much.

Underfloor heating in bathroom so when you step in in the morning it's nice and toasty.

Could anyone recommend a steamer for floor cleaning? I find mopping a complete pain and would like to make it less of a task.

Also a handheld vacuum - my Dyson died and I would like to replace it (not necessarily with a Dyson) - any recs?

Thestrangestthing · 27/01/2020 13:22

Are steam floor mops worth it? I may need to invest in one of them aswell, but was told they weren't great.

PartyintheKitchen · 27/01/2020 13:27

@Thestrangestthing I have no clue to be honest, but I have all these floors that I am struggling to keep clean (3 young children, one is quite a vomity baby - constantly posseting all over the house) and I find I always have the mop out. I'd prefer to know I'm doing a proper clean as I'm not sure in my sleep deprived state I'm doing that!

Dennisreynoldsduster · 27/01/2020 13:53

I hate my steam mop! I Got one of those spray as you go ones and it’s so much better

TeaAndStrumpets · 27/01/2020 14:16

I think sometimes it depends on the model. We had a rubbish steam mop which never did much good, but bought a sturdier upright one on offer from Amazon. It is SO much better. The pads go on with Velcro and the steam chamber sounds like a jet plane, loads of steam! The floor dries almost instantly, and the pads get chucked in the washing machine.

I would also consider a roomba robot mop, my adult DD has one (three muddy boys!) - you just set it off and leave it chuntering away. Can use disposable or washable pads. It's small enough to do a bathroom floor, about the size of a large paperback.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 27/01/2020 14:32

dubiousdecision - Would love a filter coffee maker that can be set to come on at a certain time and keep warm all day - not sure if this actually exists ? just buy a timer plug and hey presto

Barbararara · 27/01/2020 15:14

Mine are

AirPods - barely feel them in my ears, my phone can be charging in another room and I can listen to music/podcasts and just get on with stuff. Love them.

Drawstring make up bag so I can see all my make up. No more rummaging.

Perfume pod it fills by attaching to the top of a normal bottle and pumping, so no spills. Fits in pocket or bag for night out.

Decathlon microfibres towels for gym/ swimming. I love their hair turbans too. I’ve cut my blow drying time in half and my hair condition has improved lots.

90 degree charging cable for browsing on my phone at night. The bit where it inserts into the phone used to break too easily. This is a better design for lazing in bed.

4 zone electric blanket so I can select optimum temperature for top and feet without dh worrying that he’s being slow cooked. Also nice to be able to set it for a warm bed when one of us is out late and the other wants to sleep.

Silk pillow case. I would never go back to cotton. I aspire to silk sheets and pjs but I’d probably slide right out of the bed.

Sheepskin boot liners for those Saturday morning mum activities. Also silk lined leather gloves. Warm but not over hot like synthetic ones can be, and not itchy like wool. Thin enough to tie shoe laces and work buckles.

Babyliss big brush - took a bit of practice to get the hang of it but I can make my thick, kinky unmanageable hair look really good. Miracle buy.

Verily1 · 27/01/2020 15:16

It would improve my life no end if I stopped buying tat I don’t need!

Barbararara · 27/01/2020 15:29

Forgot....

Decent bath pillow and a bath caddy that can be trusted with my iPad to read/watch in the bath.

dibdabber · 27/01/2020 16:12

I long for one of these metal erasable frixion pen

You simply rub over any mistake and using the blob at the end, and the friction generates heat that ink turns the ink INVISIBLE! Then you re-write over the top. Its amazing :)

Different colour refills etc. Don't write cheques with them obvs. Great for crosswords and Sudoku and household lists.

I have a few plastic ones so can't justify throwing out to replace with metal right now, but if I could I'd buy the metal one.

beanaseireann · 27/01/2020 17:29

@TeaandStrumpets
What model and make of steam cleaner did you get ?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2020 17:38

Agree re throwing out old makeup and honing down. I have one tray that contains one each of day to day: foundation/blusher/eyeliner/mascara/lipstick/concealer/eyeshadow palette.
Everything else (there isn't much else, except lipsticks) lives in those clear drawers.

Where do people get sheepskin boot liners from?

Also: HOW much are Apple charging plugs and cables????!!!!! DO I really have to fork out that much? I wanted two more, but that's nearly £100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Faints...

Barbararara · 27/01/2020 18:04

sheepskin insoles they did an offer around Christmas and mine worked out about £2. Not sure if pay this much for them, not because they’re not lovely, but because I’m tight.

TeaAndStrumpets · 27/01/2020 18:05

Hi beanaseireann it was the Ariete 4160, I can't see it on sale anymore on Amazon, sadly. It was one of those silly cheap offers where you think "for that price I'll risk it!" Very sturdy. I like the velcro pads, and that it stands up by itself. The reviews of the more recent versions are middling though Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2020 18:54

Thanks, Barbara. Hopefully they'll reduce them again at some point. I could definitely do with a couple of pairs. My last ones were very cheap from a garden centre, and didn't last very well.

mammmamia · 27/01/2020 19:56

@FabiosMullet, where did you get your round tray from?

Love this thread. Loungewear is something I’ve never really thought about but makes so much sense.

RedundancySucks · 27/01/2020 21:22

Fleece bedding, both duvet covers and bedsheets. They have eliminated the need to use an electric blanket.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/01/2020 21:36

I have a thick mattress on my bed and have spent the last 8 years with the stupid fitted sheet pinging off halfway through the night. This weekend I discovered that bed sheets don't just come in 'single, double, king size' etc but also in depth too. Total game changer and had my first night sleep without getting tangled in the sheet last night.

Rosebud21 · 27/01/2020 21:40

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime I only realised this in the last few months too, I love my extra deep sheets Grin

Goawayquickly · 27/01/2020 21:54

Oooh where do you buy the deep sheets? Or do you know the measure for the deep ones? I really need some.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/01/2020 22:38

I bought the deep sheets from tesco on sale but they seem to sell them everywhere, no idea how I didn't notice before but definitely have them in argos and dunelm. There are different depths, it'll say 'double +....) I think mine were +25 cm but I think dunelm had up to +38 cm.

beanaseireann · 27/01/2020 23:36

Thank you TeaandStrumpets

mathanxiety · 28/01/2020 02:29
