I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

I have a travel pouch full of Benefit minis for trips away. Also a toothbrush, hairbrush etc.

More than enough coat hangers

But not too many. The current bane of my existence is a DH that won’t throw a single one away so anytime something is removed from or replaced to a communal wardrobe at least five crappy wire hangers tumble out.

2 dishwashers. Use pots straight from one and load into other. Saves so much time. (I haven't yet done this but it will happen in the future).

A caddy - I use a baby nappy organiser - to use like an in-house everything but the kitchen sink handbag, so much more accessible and can move around the house with me.

Plug in lamps controlled by Alexa

Battery operated/rechargeable motion sensor lights in bathrooms, in halls and on stairs. Low light that makes it safe but doesn't blind you at night.

A sunrise clock. Makes waking up in the dark mornings so much more palatable.

Those turban towels from the pound shop are great.

TheFlis12345 · 19/01/2020 12:11

Lip balm and nail files stashed everywhere so I always have them to hand (in handbag, desk drawer, in sitting room etc).

Phone chargers in every room plus on my desk.

Two different sizes of chilli bottle, small for handbag and a bigger one in my work bag.

Selection of snacks in my desk drawer in case I am in back to back meetings and lunch gets delayed.

Goawayquickly · 19/01/2020 12:12

Agree with turban towels but I’ve found the primark ones better for a pound more.
Spare chargers is a great idea.
A pot of pound coins and silver change for when you just need milk or a pound for a school event like mufti day.

A good supply of basic foods, flour, eggs etc.
I’m a convert to crossbody bags, keep my hands free and feels more secure.

I love my magnetic fridge notepad to scribble down stuff I need to replace.

I was just thinking about this today OP. When I realised my knickers are older than my youngest DC. Blush I've been picking up the odd thing over the last couple of months.

Robot hoover / mop. I just have them running happily along in the background now when I get home from work, those were previously my worst household jobs. If I could now find a robot to put the laundry away and change the beds I think my life quality would improve by at least another 30% Grin

This is my travel mug and it is a delight. I get compliments on it all the time.

AlexaShutUp · 19/01/2020 12:23

Ronnie, can I ask which Robot hoover/mop you have? These are my most hated jobs too, but the robots are quite a big investment so would want to be sure that they worked!

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/01/2020 13:21

I’ve got a basic eufy. He’s called Sebastian. It’s mandatory to name them.

FromTheAllotment · 19/01/2020 13:55

Oh and AnyList, a shopping list app shared between me and DH. Works with getting Siri to add things to the list and whoever is doing the shopping can see everything that either of us has added. Also surprisingly useful for me to be able to log on while DH is shopping and see how far he’s got when DS wants to know when Daddy will be home!

mamaduckbone · 19/01/2020 13:55

I recently bought 10 new pairs of socks, all in colours that I can wear for work, and it's changed my life.

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 13:57

An old fashioned tin opener as I cannot work the more modern ones at all and I went to have a Fray Bentos pie the other day and couldn’t get the fucking thing open so gave up!

WTFKeee · 19/01/2020 14:01

Divorcing my ex worked a treat for me Grin

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/01/2020 14:04

Buying more teaspoons made such a difference to me.

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 14:05

Yeah more teaspoons too.

EmpressJewel · 19/01/2020 14:06

Phone charger in my car - I have an adapter which connects via the cigarette lighter.

I kept a fold up bag in my handbag for shopping etc. It's from IKEA and folds up flat, so doesn't take up much space.

Handbag inserts, keep my bag organised. My favourite one is from Primark.

burntpinky · 19/01/2020 14:09

Love this thread!

Little spray bottles to hold household cleaning spray and keep that and a sponge in each bathroom so in theory can just quickly clean - still don’t do it though!!

DC3dilemma · 19/01/2020 14:10

I bought an extra shelf for my oven recently. £16 well spent. So much easier for big meals when we have visitors are want to do 4 pizzas at once.

pinboard · 19/01/2020 14:13

A stair basket

GetOffTheTableMabel · 19/01/2020 14:16

I replaced all my coat hangers with those brushed flock fabric ones. Everything in my closet is on the same type of hanger. Nothing falls off them onto the wardrobe floor (I favour wide necklines & this used to happen a lot) and everything is tidy and at the exact same height so things don’t lurk between other things iyswim.
Big container on shelf in hall cupboard for scarves, gloves, hats, umbrellas etc. I always seemed to be looking for them at the last minute and now they’re right by the front door.
Little ‘skubb’ divider boxes in draws for pants, socks etc and also in my makeup draw - separate sections for face, lips, eyes etc.

fluffedup · 19/01/2020 14:25

A spin dryer. I've been meaning to get one for years. You can get them secondhand for about £30 and they are very cheap to run. We get though a lot of laundry in our house. I'll put the towels and heavier items through the spin dryer. I'm hoping that we won't need to use the tumble dryer at all, apart from when there's masses of washing such as when I wash the bedding.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2020 14:26

Jayne
I bought six vintage hallmarked silver teaspoons in a charity shop last weekend. So cute!
