I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 is the app called Nova - is it iPad only or iPhone too? I can’t find it for my phone but it would be super handy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/02/2020 20:21

Pleased to see this is still going!

DD has just bought me one of those round things that stick to the back of your phone so it's easier to hold. Definitely improved my life! 😂

A pop-up laundry basket for travelling. That way your dirty clothes don't get mixed up with your clean clothes. And it takes up no space in your suitcase.

Ooh!

StCharlotte · 04/02/2020 22:38

As for your original question OP, the answer is kittens. 😊

Do those circular things not irritate you when you want to put your phone in a bag or pocket, Remus. I’ve been tempted for a little whole but keep stopping myself because I wonder if the bulk would annoy me.

VanGoghsDog · 05/02/2020 11:01

Do those circular things not irritate you when you want to put your phone in a bag or pocket,

They pop in and out, so to put it in a bag you can flatten it down. Then pull it out when you need it.

Insurance approved key safe, in case I lose mine or I need someone to access my house e.g. childcare emergency
We have one of these, as my husband has a CareLink alarm; this means if they need to send paramedics etc out they can get in.

A few small make up bags to help me keep my hand bag organised. I now keep charging cables, bobbles, hair pins etc in one and tampons, anti-histamines, nurofen and some basic make up in the other. No longer have things rolling about In the bottom of my bag. It has changed me from always rooting around in the bottom of my bag to effortlessly gliding through lifeGrin

Whyhaveidonethis · 05/02/2020 20:55

My small thing was USB plug sockets. One in every room including the kids. I fitted them myself in minutes and now no one ever asks for a USB plug. Life hanging in terms of annoyance and stress

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2020 21:34

Yes, the circle things squash down and are no problem at all in a bag or pocket. Am very impressed with it!

I've thought of a few more little things I've got recently which have improved my life:

Jigsaw lace trimmed camisoles- really soft and comfortable and great for modesty under a lower cut dress for work!

A hat with cotton lining - I usually really struggle because my head gets too hot and itchy, but this one is really nice to wear.

Nice pots to take yoghurt and hoummus to work in - little glass ones. So much more pleasant to use than old Tupperware!

Brilliant thread, posting so I can read later!

My new year's resolution was that if I can fix or replace something that will make me happy for less than £15 then do it immediately. I'm terrible for struggling on for months with broken phone chargers, scraping the last drop of concealer out of the tube etc. It stresses me out.

So far I have bought:
-Plastic holder for cotton pads and buds for my dressing table
-A bedroom bin
-2 new pillows

  • egg poaching attachment for a pan
  • cupboard organiser to hold my spices and packets
  • a holder for my hairdryer and straighteners
  • not cheap but prescription sunglasses!! Single best thing I ever bought

Have ordered pop up laundry basket. DH will be delighted on holiday. Thanks for the idea Smile

MacBlank · 05/02/2020 22:46

For chargers, I highly recommend Anker.

They do walled or wireless pads/stands chargers.

I have a few of their chargers, both walked and wireless, and swear by them, no seriously I do.

Obvs if you haven't got a phone capable of wireless, then get s normal charger.

I love being able to just plonk n grab! I plonk the phone on the wireless stand to charge, and just grab when I go out or use my phone.

Beware - I got One of those pop-up things a year ago and after six weeks I developed dreadful tendinitis is in my hand. I don't know that the great the great although they feel good. I'm still suffering a year on.

Mimi6 · 06/02/2020 00:15

I use the Samsung Notes (or Memo section on any phone) whilst reading GransNet or suchlike to record info, then use the toggle symbol (III)to hop back and forth from App to App, to access the Notes to Add an item brand, tips, names, shopping etc.(easier than using pen+paper). Also useful to keep list of birthdays and addresses. Always use lock on phone though to safeguard info.

Merryweather80 · 06/02/2020 03:57

I love my vax steam mop it's a 10 in 1 so can be used on sofas, Windows, clothes, oven cleaning etc. I also have a squirty mop too for quick clean ups or a quick damp dust spruce up of the floors. Two floor pads means there's a use and a in the the wash one.
I will be hunting for a glass nib fountain pen.
Hover wise I went for the Green Henry version. I think it's called Harry. It has loads of suck, tools a hepa filter and a smaller head unit too. Under £100 and amazing.

Fabulous thread btw. Thank you x

Are you talking about the pop-up laundry basket? If do, what on earth were you doing with it?!

Dozer · 06/02/2020 07:45

Most of your things are material luxuries, OP. Which is fair enough, but cashmere, jigsaw camis and “real” coffee in the bedroom are not “small things”.

Am following though!

Mmpip · 06/02/2020 10:56

A Louis Vuitton handbag....

Having very interesting holiday Grin

No I was taking about the pop up finger supports you stick to your phone. I'm sure there is a proper name.

TheClitterati · 06/02/2020 14:20

POPSOCKETS

Phew! Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/02/2020 22:13

Dozer - it's my thread, so I get to define small. And material luxuries is part of what it's about.

None of the Jigsaw camis cost more than about £20 and my cashmere is the cheap as chips from sales sort.

Please feel free to embrace the spirit of the thread, or take your tape measure elsewhere! 😀
