One year Bodger and Badger were in our local panto. Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday night after the show Bodger (sans badger) would be in the Wetherspoons across from the theatre drinking very heavily on his own. All the drunk people repeatedly shouting “mashed potato” at him appeared not to deter him from drinking there for about three months on the trot.

Sad really, think he had issues.

Queen mother - was inside Clarence House for an event, met her pre-event in the corridor and asked her for directions. She was sweet and still dressed in a house/day gown.

Desmond Tutu - he was the honored guest at a dinner for a charity I worked for. He was incredibly humble and jolly.

Malala - spent two days with her for her charity. She was very humble, soft spoken and passionate. Her dad was also awesome - much more gregarious than Malala.

Paul Nicholls. Just before he announced he was leaving eastenders. He was gorgeous. I was 12 and IN LOVE

Whoever the cast of Soldier Soldier was when I was an extra. (Can you tell I cared so much I don't know who was in it)

Dawn French. Lovely lovely lady
Lenny Henry. Very standoffish. But he was trying to watch his daughters school play and was probably fed up of people talking to him Grin

And I know people who knew the Middleton sisters before they were famous. Apparently Catherine was lovely and Pippa no so much.
And Natalie Dormer. Stuck up even when she was just another school girl.
My friends mum used to babysit Kate Winslet

Jason Issacs & Lewis Capaldi

Joe Brolly. Nice, but would be exhausting to live with- got the impression his brain only has one speed: very, very fast. No wonder he is a barrister. His children were with him and they were lovely- polite, interested, friendly. Gorgeous looking children too- I don't know who his wife is but the genetic mix is a good one!

Bouledeneige · 04/01/2020 01:14

A random list....all a bit boring and humdrum because I wouldn’t dream of actually striking up a convo with someone just because they are famous (what a British thing to do!)

Hugh Grant - train to London. He was in first class. I wasn’t. Couldn’t quite believe my eyes when he walked towards me. Was about 6 years ago. Very haggard looking. I noticed his beautiful leather bag first.

Joseph Fienes - shared a lift at Tate Modern (very short)

Russell Brand - browsing books next to me at Tate Modern - years later than visit above (very tall and skinny)

Gael Garcia Marquez- sat next to on train from Edinburgh after protest we both attended. Lovely. Shared our papers. Pretended not to know who he was even though I loved the motorcycle diaries.

Stephen Hawking and family (first wife). Saw him most weekend lunch times at a cafeteria where my parents worked- late 80s/early 90s. Normal family. Saw him shopping in HMV for CDs once. Separately cut DH up on a pavement!

Mary Beard- have seen on train a couple of times. Wears notably funky trainers.

Rory McGrath - often seem in pubs. Likes a drink. Red faced.

Mark Foster - Olympic swimmer. Saw him on my cruise, did not spot him in the pool though! Lovely guy. Saw him chatting to lots of people on the ship. Handsome and very tall. Asked him if he had children. DH laughed afterwards and said if was obviously gay. This was before he came out

Griff Rhys Jones. Sat next to him all day in a library. We did not speak so I have nothing to share

My DH met David Beckham in a lingerie department in the 90s. They laughed about buying underwear for their gf’s (I was not the gf, DH has never bought me underwear!). Have heard from others David is incredibly nice

Germaine Greer buying horticultural books

David Dimbleby - at the reception before Question Time, so engaging and just as lovely as I imagined

Katie Melua in bookshop DH said she is the most beautiful person he’s seen IRL

The blond guy from Dollar with his dog on a Suffolk beach

Martin Freeman smoking a fag outside my office (I’m not joking!)

Fiona Bruce buying a coffee after a lunchtime run

My DC used to go to school with Phi Collin's DC. I had a couple of chats with him by the school gate. He's quite shy but a sweetheart. Fan of ManU, as was XH, so we chatted about that.

leapinglucy · 04/01/2020 02:08

I meant Phil not Phi!

chuffer15 · 04/01/2020 02:24

I have met bay city rollers and I see a lot of big country, lovely lot they are.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 04/01/2020 02:28

Lucy Worsley - I was completely overwhelmed and waffled a complete load of stalky nonsense mainly about her lipstick. But she was so lovely and sweet. Just how you'd expect her to be 💞❤️💓💜💙💗♥️

BlueSkies2020 · 04/01/2020 02:31

I forgot to mention a really good one. A few years ago I was walking down steps into Kings Cross Underground and was faced with Charles and Camilla walking up the steps! It was completely empty as it was the middle of the day and I was quite shocked to see royalty on the tube. They were talking with each other and looked like ordinary passengers! There was no fuss. That evening I saw on the news that they were taking a tube trip to mark its 150 year anniversary. I imagine that was quite a memorable experience for Charles, probably never been on the tube before.

Madonna. Did vodka shots for a while with her in some old Ukrainian bar in new York.. around 8th st area....she had just released first single ..she was a little drunk !

Luckystar777 · 04/01/2020 05:23

@earsup I am very jealous, I'd love to meet Madonna!

For the PP wanting context -

Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke all signed a CD booklet for me, the only one who got a photo with me was Chris, he put his arm around me and his wife and little girl were playing on the grass behind us. Debbie didn't want photos with anyone, she didn't have her make up on yet (but she looked good without it!), she was drinking a cup of tea and smiled at me after signing my booklet Grin

Quentin Tarantino was signing copies of his script/book for Death Proof, he shook my hand after signing and said 'sorry sweetheart, no photos' but my ex sneakily took a photo of us, it's side profile but you can see him clearly Smile

Juliette Lewis was signing copies of a CD but we hadn't bought it, we hung around in HMV until she was done signing all the CDs and my ex asked politely if we could get a photo, she took one of us and Juliette had her arm around me and it's a lovely photo, she was so nice to meet, very very friendly Smile

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were leaving after we went to their show around 2007 - they signed some DVD inlay things and each got a photo with me and then Dawn French said 'right missus, you ready to go?' to Jennifer and they went off in a black car. Both were friendly but tired after their show.

Sharleen Spiteri signed a CD booklet for me and got a photo with me, she was lovely, really chatty asked if we liked the new album and if we were going to the show later 'yes!' and it was awesome - that was 2005/06. I was a huge fan of hers growing up Grin

Bret Hart was doing a book signing in Edinburgh, I loved watching him wrestling in WWF/WWE when I was 9 years old, met him when I was 25! I couldn't stop grinning the whole day, my face hurt so bad afterwards, lol, he was lovely, signed my book and got a photo with me, he was so tall and muscular, I couldn't reach his shoulder so I put my hand on his back Grin I look tiny next to him, haha!

Hugh Cornwell was doing a book signing but we hadn't bought it, he came over to say hi and briefly chatted, I mentioned Joe Strummer (who had died about 4 years prior) and he said 'oh yes' and looked sort of wistful.

David Suchet, omg! He was SO nice! Very friendly and chatty and he smelt amazing, I should've asked what aftershave he had on, whatever it was was beautiful! He signed a Poirot booklet from the DVD box set we had Grin We had gone to see him and Laurie Metcalf in 'A Long Day's Journey into Night' (it was good) and waited outside at stage doors afterwards. Then we saw Laurie and she signed my Roseanne DVD box set, she looked pleasantly surprised that I brought it, she was very nice and quite shy. Both got photos with me Grin I wrote them both thank you cards and sent them to London afterwards where their next show was.

Billy Idol, although not sure it counts, but when he was on stage he took my CD Booklet and signed it and passed it back through the crowd to me. He threw out signed paper plates too and we caught one Smile He was bloody brilliant live. I wish he would tour the UK again.

Almost met Siouxsie Sioux but she didn't stop, she looked a bit stressed and unapproachable so we didn't go over to her. She was carrying a bundle of bottles of water.

Saw Karen Dunbar in a ladies loo queue but again she looked pissed off so we didn't try to talk to her, lol.

My ex saw Alan Carr coming into Borders to sign books but he was pissed off and complaining, lol! She didn't go over to him, hadn't anything to sign anyway.

notsodimwit · 04/01/2020 05:40

Love these threads Smile

Ritascornershop · 04/01/2020 05:40

Served Roland Orzabel when I worked in a shop. He was quiet, polite, seemed very normal.

Observed David Tennant when I worked on a tv series he was in. People who properly interacted w him reported that was lovely, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he ate with the rest of us sometimes at the crafty tent and chatted cheerfully to the hair and makeup people.

Weenurse · 04/01/2020 05:45

Neighbors is filmed near where I live, so a few actors from there at the local shops.
Always happy to sign autographs for DC.
Olivia Newton John, lovely lady but soo tiny.
I have looked after others but can’t tell you who due to confidentiality.
They were all really nice.
