I haven't ever met any famous people.

OP posts:
carolbeer · 07/01/2020 01:38

Peter Kay in a post office, He started a conversation with me and seemed like a nice man.

David Walliams and Matt Lucas in their Little Britain days, Both lovely. Randomly bumped into them and they both took the time to talk to me.

Michael C Hall (Dexter) in London when he did Lazarus. I flew to London and got on a train, he was on the train, we had a short conversation about lazarus, went our seperate ways, I got off the train and decided to get something to eat, randomly bumped into him as he was walking out of the cafe, said hello again, Went to my hotel and dropped my stuff off and decided to walk towards kings cross and saw him again as he was going into the theatre, he saw me again with a look of horror on his face and muttered something about fate bringing us together, then started laughing. I was mortified. Lovely man.

Graham Norton - passed by in a busy street in Soho, he was really smiley and lovely.
Nicki Chapman - TV presenter. Absolutely lovely and chatty.
Kate Thornton - overheard chatting to mate in the playground as same age children. Super friendly and lovely.
Olivia Coleman - overheard chatting in kids cafe in Peckham Rye Park a few years ago before Oscars success but she was already a very famous actress at the time. Super down to earth and lovely.
Sharleen Spiteri - super friendly
Mike Bushell - genuinely lovely person, super friendly and funny
James Cracknell - very tall and handsome, very quiet

Damntheman · 07/01/2020 09:06

I met all of these at college so only four of them were actually famous at the time. But still fun to think about :)
Ewan McGregor
Orlando Bloom
Jodie Whittaker
Michelle Dockery
Hayley Atwell
Damian Lewis
Dominic West

I've also worked with a score of famous musicians :) and of course the absolutely love Terry Pratchett

wendz86 · 07/01/2020 09:14

Orangecake123 · 07/01/2020 09:15

David Mitchell too! (peep show). I served him when he came into our store. Didn't fan girl obviously as I wasn't a fan then, but am now.

Also saw the guy who played Ricky in eastenders and saw JK rowling at a talk she did for schools.

fringeforever · 07/01/2020 09:28

My mum met Bruce Forsyth decades ago when she was a nurse looking after disabled children. They'd taken them to the sea side and she said Bruce wouldn't give them the time of day.

Tana433 · 07/01/2020 09:49

Ian Puleston Davies (Owen in Corrie) originally from my area and pops back often presumably to visit family. Met him a couple of times at local shop, always friendly and down to earth.

CatInTheDaytime · 07/01/2020 11:57

Ian Puleston Davies is King Thistle! (greater claim to fame IMO)

Natsku · 07/01/2020 12:57

Alan Cumming - gatecrashed his party once, in a pub in London. Open bar and goodie bags of his toiletries line. We chatted with him briefly and my friend did an impression of Boris from Goldeneye and we all cringed.

Danny Wallace (Ok not very famous) - he was alright, made an appearance at our Lovely Christmas party.

Rest are people that have little fame outside of Finland so will be impressed if anyone here has heard of them!

Paleface (Finnish rapper) - he came to the first screening of a documentary about my brother and had a chat with me afterwards. Absolutely lovely and very tall.

Matti Nykänen - only the greatest male ski jumper of all time. He was signing kuksas (traditional wooden cups) at a shop near me, he was presented with an old pair of his skis but he was quite confused (he was a long time alcoholic) and said they couldn't be his, his were much longer! He gave me a hug and posed for a picture.

Sauli Niinistö (current Finnish President) - He came to my town to give a speech and he was walking around afterwards to say hi to people and I stopped him to talk to him about my brother. He was lovely, and apologetic that he couldn't help.

StarUtopia · 07/01/2020 13:00

Kylie - somewhat annoying.

Seal - incredibly rude and patronising

Prince Charles - Absolute gem of a man and my god, smells gorgeous!

David Jason - lovely, really down to earth and friendly

closetotheaction · 07/01/2020 14:31

@Grinchly What was Sarah Lancashire like?! She's my girl crush Blush

nowaypose · 07/01/2020 16:55

The people who are mentioned as being twats really aren’t surprising to me, they all seem like twats on TV too.

Holly Willoughby is a twat, my friend works for Fearne Cotton who is lovely but Holly is not.
My cousin works on the Emmerdale set and says most are down to earth and lovely but the actress who plays Debbie Dingle is awful. Apparently her husband often apologises to people for her behaviour...

I haven’t met anyone remotely glamorous but:
Yvette Cooper- lovely
Sean Williamson (Barry from ‘enders) - lovely, my Mum still talks about how friendly he was to this day
Michael Barrymore in the 90s- fantastic, truly lovely man. Shame his career ended the way it did.
The Chuckle Brothers- amazing Grin

kennypppppppp · 07/01/2020 18:00

Michael winner - a hoot
Michael cain - a hoot
muhammed al fayed - ditto
amber from love island - nice
yazz from yazz - eurgh
anthea turner - eurgh
terry wogan - not massively impressed

Julie Walters, Penelope Keith, Roger Taylor, David Ginola, Bonnie Langford and Paul Weller all came into a shop I worked in. All seemed perfectly nice and polite. Especially Julie Walters who sympathised with my colleague who had a stinking cold.

They came in individually, not en masse!

Stood next to Roger Black at a photo printing machine in my local Boots. Gorgeous, tall and sporting a lovely red body warmer. Also saw him walking his dog in some local woods.

Sat opposite Michael Beurke on a train once. He huffed a bit about having to move his bag to give me room. He went down in my estimation.

Used to frequently walk past Flavia Cacace near my house as her family lived locally. Saw her and her husband in Sainsbury’s last year perusing cucumbers.

DH was hit on the head by Geoff Capes when he was little. He’d asked for his autograph but GC hasn’t heard him say thank you, so gently hit him on the head. DH is still irked by the unfairness of said incident.

DH and I walked past Simon Pegg in Charing Cross Road. We turned around to double check and he turned around too. Perhaps he’d been clobbered on the head by Geoff Capes too and recognised a fellow victim..?

I have heard holly willoughby is really not a nice person !!!

When my friend met her she said holly was quite a diva and wasn't friendly at all.
What else about her do you know? I'm quite intrigued as she comes across so love on tv.

PantyGiraffe · 07/01/2020 22:01

@Fuzzybumblebee I met Terry Pratchett. He came to do a signing at our bookshop circa early 2000s. His rider was asking for sushi which we duly provided in our shitty little back room for him. He was perfectly nice, turned up wearing a black waistcoat.

When my brother was little, he wrote a fan letter to Geoff Capes and got a very nice, handwritten letter back from him. So you can rest assured that GC didn't spend all his spare time clobbering small boys around the head.

Wallabyone · 08/01/2020 11:00

I've met Amy Winehouse, Brian Harvey from East 17, Peter Andre, Sol Campbell-what an assortment 😂

Wallabyone · 08/01/2020 11:03

Oh yes, forgot my favourite of all-Michael Rosen! I had to pick him up from the local station as I'd booked him at my school. I thought he'd arranged his own transport but then he called, so I was hastily chucking nappies and other baby paraphernalia into the back on the way Blush

BlastEndedSkrewt · 08/01/2020 11:11

Princess Anne briefly
Christopher Reeve (pre-accident) brieflty
Fern Britton - lovely lady
John Cravan - very nice chap
Lucinda Green - nice lady
Ian Stark - lovely man
all of the above in horsey circles

Penn & Teller - both really nice

Spidey66 · 08/01/2020 11:33

Neil Morrissey drinks in my local. He's quite sweet. He's a friend of a friend and I was introduced to him, but wasn't given his name. I said to him ''Has anyone ever told you you're the spitting image of Neil Morrissey?'' to which he replied, ''yes, because I am Neil Morrissey.''

Have met various EE/ex EE actors who live close to me. I saw Cliff Parisi down the main road, unfortunately my gob ran away with me and I said ''oh hi Minty'' across the road (don't know what I was thinking.) He said ''hi love'' back.

Also seen Perry Fenwick down the pub and in the local shops.

My husband went out for a takeaway and parked in the library car park. When he came back to the car, he was blocked in by a RangeRover. Eventually the owner came back and it was Todd Carty, when he was still in EE. My husband was a bit short with him (his takeaway was getting cold!) and said ''just because you're on the telly 3 times a week, doesn't mean you can block me in the library car park you know.''

Shmithecat2 · 08/01/2020 11:40

Sven Goran Eriksson, whilst I was a little bit tipsy at Prague Airport - I was made up 😂. He (and the rest of his management team when he was manager of Shanghai SIPG) were lovely. He's incredibly charming.

Met a few more (brother works in the filming industry) but always had to stay calm and quiet for fear of embarrassing myself and my dbro.

Bumped into Richard Blackwood years ago in the Boots at London Waterloo. He is truly beautiful.

janaus50s · 08/01/2020 11:41

My daughter met an Australia’s Got Talent runner up ... typical “don’t you know who I am” attitude. Anthony Callea
