I haven't ever met any famous people.

Ooh, and the silver fox that is John Inverdale. He took his mum for Sunday lunch in a pub I used to work at. He was also very very lovely.

ParanoidGynodroid · 08/01/2020 11:51

John Inverdale? The man who discuss the attractiveness of female tennis players, and said one “wasn’t a looker”?

Not my idea of very very lovely.

Shmithecat2 · 08/01/2020 11:54

@ParanoidGynodroid he was to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Muwanian · 08/01/2020 11:57

Meghan and Harry on recent trip to South Africa.

I met David Dimbleby in a shop queue and chatted to him for a few minutes. He was very nice. He seemed kind.

I met Kay Mellor when I was at an official opening a building. I was pregnant and she commented that I carried it well unlike her where it was all spread 'round the back'. An odd conversation! She seemed funny and easy to get on with though.

I saw Boris Johnson at a couple of higher education conferences I went to more than 10 years ago (I didn't speak to him personally).

GuyFawkesDay · 08/01/2020 14:28

I met John Inverdale in a pub during the open gold years back. He was a twat.

A famous band members child goes to my sons very small school. he seems to be just like any other of the dads ( if not a bit more buff for his age). I didn’t even recognise him until someone told me. No one buts a eyelid.

I live in a town where a few celebs have lived and you bump into them in Waitrose or the pub but I don’t seem to register them even when they right in front of me! I didn’t even see Richard Branson when he run past me as a eight foot butterfly in the London marathon or Gordon Ramsey so I think I don’t look people in the eye enough.

Wow! For me Milea wins!!

I spent a couple of Christmas Days with Goldie as a family member worked closely with him and he grew up with her FIL. Very charming and warm at the time.

PumpkinPieAlibi · 09/01/2020 02:06

@Muwanian - How was that, if you don't mind me asking?

Muwanian · 09/01/2020 03:12

@PumpkinPieAlibi Meghan was engaged, her hair is as glossy as it appears. Harry was polite and at certain ease.

Ella Fitzgerald after a concert in the 80s. Lovely woman. Had short chat about how out of fashion her trad jazz was at the time (she started it!).
Treasured memory.
Sat next to Sir T Jones recently at a restaurant but our whole table behaved impeccably and said nothing and hardly even looked at him ! So hardly
Counting as ‘met’.
Shirley MacLaine at an airport in Colorado around 5 years ago. I did say something to her (no one else seemed to recognise her) but wish I hadn’t as she was just getting on with her journey - her assistant looked frazzled.

Jane Goodall - fucking amazing. She was my idol growing up, and I was practically speechless being in her presence.

Pele - Lovely man.

David Beckham - Also very nice. Very kind to his fans.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi - Incredibly humble and very polite.

President Moon Jae-In - Can't say I really spoke to him much, but he seemed nice.

Dick Clark - former head of US Homeland Security. Nice guy. Type of person you'd love to have a beer with.

Steve Wozniak. Nice guy, but was very rushed meeting.

I also met the Director General of NASA, James Frederick Bridenstine, although I don't think he classifies as a famous person. He was very impressed (or at least acted impressed) that my son could name all of the planets and dwarf planets at 4 and said he couldn't wait to work with him someday. So he's probably my second favorite "famous" person I've met after Jane Goodall.

A few other Nobel prize winners, heads of internal agencies, etc. But none that are household names.

Oh forgot to mention back in the 80s Dexys Midnight Runners were filming a video in a pub in Cricklewood where I grew up (the area at the time was very Irish and that was what they wanted.) My Dad got word of it, so me, my dad and my sister were in the pub (with many others) as 'extras' so we got to meet Kevin Rowland and the rest of the band. They were fine.
