I haven't ever met any famous people.

OP posts:
Hellokittymania · 06/01/2020 09:17

I have met Miss America, miss India, lots of figure skaters like Katarina Việt, Scott Hamilton, Brian Orser,

I’ve met a few very famous people in the disability community, including Eddie mdopu and came very close to meeting Nick vjucic while I was in Bali.

Lots through work but years ago, when I was responsible for organising author events in a big London bookshop.

As a general rule, authors were lovely (if occasionally eccentric) and footballers and celebrities who were promoting books that had been ghostwritten were rude and hard work.

Ones that strong to mind are JK Rowling, Jilly Cooper, Nigel Slater (so lovely), Nigella Lawson, David Beckham.

Crinkle77 · 06/01/2020 10:35

@SimonJT Good old google.

Sassanacs · 06/01/2020 10:41

Rik Mayall, he was on the same train as me when I was on my way to a Take That concert at Wembley (some point during the 90's) with my mum and friends and we kept running past his carriage (back in the day when there was little closed off rooms inside the trains) and eventually he asked us all in. He asked where we were going and we excitedly screamed "to see Take That"!! And he dryly asked "Why"? with a deadpan face before laughing. He signed my mums newspaper and it made my day as I grew up watching Bottom Grin

Next one was Jarvis Cocker when I was with some mates hanging about in Convent Garden. Lates 90's, possibly early 00's. We went up to him to ask for his autograph and he told us to fuck off Confused not pleasant

Another one was the guy who played PC Tony Stamp in The Bill... it was not long after the Glades (shopping centre) opened in Bromley and was the place to be. I assume he was local-ish. My mum was star struck lol as we were avid fans of the programme.

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer - saw them in a car park and Bob nearly ran me over with his Jag as he backed out of a space without checking. I shouted at him and called him a twat and then realised who he was so it twigged that the other guy was Vic and that was why his face seemed familiar to me. He didn't apologise just stared at me but I've never found him funny anyway so there! Wink

Brief meetings with the bloke who played Robbie in Eastenders (Dean...?) and also met Danny Dyer at a nightclub just after he'd chugged a shitload of coke up his nose. He wasn't a diamond geezer.

Think that's all of them... Sassanacs friend to the stars hahaha Star

SillyUnMurphy · 06/01/2020 10:57

@Sassanacs your story about Rik Mayall made me smile so much. I would absolutely loved to have met him.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 06/01/2020 11:02

Quite a few celebs back in the day through work (probably all has-beens now Grin ) but most recently, Keith Allen. He was sitting on a beach in Dorset on his own with his beautiful lurcher. The lurcher kept coming over for a tickle so we had a totally British conversation with Keith about the dog, the beach etc, pretending we didn't recognise him.

Then he left, I said 'That was Keith Allen, wasn't it?' DH said 'yup' I said 'very nice dog' and then we carried on sunbathing Grin

Mrshue · 06/01/2020 11:03

Thousands. I worked in the music industry for over 20 years.

OverByYer · 06/01/2020 11:09

@SillyUnMurphy I met him too, posted earlier in the thread he was lovely

Sassanacs · 06/01/2020 11:13

@Silly makes me smile to think back. He is a legend and had a real presence yet very down to earth Smile

Baaaahhhhh · 06/01/2020 11:23

Phil Collins was always in the local pub when I was a teen, and was always very nice. Served him at my checkout till quite often in the local supermarket too, also Mike Rutherford.

Recently was at a wedding and Jude Law was there, to my eternal regret I didn't go say hi. And yes, he is devastatingly handsome.

caperplips · 06/01/2020 11:29

Many years ago Mathew McConaghie and Sandra Bullock bought some art from me in a gallery I used to work in, they were so beautiful and perfect - hair, teeth, nails etc. I was in awe!

I have met Cillian Murphy twice and he is really lovely (but small!)

Prince Charles and Camilla.

HerRoyalFattyness · 06/01/2020 11:38

Princess Anne.
She would land her helicopter in the field across from our high school and get out to have a fag. (Happened around 3 times throughout my time there)
I happened to be bunking off one of the times (would go into school, meet my friends, then wander off out of school) and she said hello to us.

Sir Tom Finney. Had my picture taken with him. He was lovely.

A few rugby League players. All of them absolutely lovely people.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 06/01/2020 11:38

An East Enders actor, years and years ago. The company I worked for was giving him a free bathroom for a feature in a Sunday colour supplement. I went to his flat beforehand and he was friendly but quite up himself and his place was a bit scuzzy. So when the bathroom was fitted and had been in use for about a month (so he could hand on heart say it was practical, lovely etc etc) I had to go back with a snapper to take pics. Was so worried about the state it might be in that I told his agent to get him to clean it, and warn him that I wasn't prepared to haul his pubes out of the plughole Grin

Riv12345 · 06/01/2020 12:01

*Sassanacs!!!

I am laughing soooo much about your Jarvis cocker comment,
I can imagine him saying that.
You have made my day so funny x

SillyUnMurphy · 06/01/2020 12:15

@caperplips now I’m jealous! Cillian Murphy is my absolute favourite. When I met Tom Hardy all I wanted to do was ask him what Cillian was like but I would have got into trouble Grin

Taddda · 06/01/2020 12:58

@SillyUnMuprhy A double meet of Hardy and Murphy would be a dream! I feel a night Peaky Blinders binge watch is on the cards.... Smile

caperplips · 06/01/2020 13:03

@SillyUnMurphy, he is really nice and very understated, self deprecating!
And ridiculously handsome, but I'm tall and he is short so it would never work for us Sad

Taddda · 06/01/2020 13:07

@caperplips I like to think that the only reason I'm not with Tom Hardy is that he's married to someone else.....OH!, and so am I, forgot for a sec.....

Arduenna · 06/01/2020 13:37

Miriam Margoyles - lovely and very funny.
Morrissey - twat.
Idina Menzel - shy but very sweet. Stunningly beautiful in real life.

fussychica · 06/01/2020 14:07

Various politicians in 80s & 90s, when I was a civil servant. Most were ok.
Henry Cooper, the boxer, had lunch with him when he came to our school to do prize giving. Lovely man.
Stood next to but didn't speak to Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet. I'd always fancied him but my fantasy was shattered as I stood next to a paunchy guy with lousy make up.Grin
Claire Balding buying her tube ticket
Nick Robinson on the tube
Probably others but can't think of any right now.

SillyUnMurphy · 06/01/2020 14:09

he is really nice and very understated, self deprecating!
Even more my favourite now! Got to love the down to earth Cork lad. Love his 6 Music show too.

Larry Lamb - he was lovely!

tigerbear · 06/01/2020 14:25

Jade Jagger
Lembit Opik
Ermmmm, Jimmy Saville 😡
I was about 12, at a hotel having lunch with my parents, and he came over to the table and said something along the lines of ‘I’d love to take you to my private island’
Weirdly, from what I recall, none of us seemed to be that outraged by it at the time! WTF!

GidgetGirl · 06/01/2020 14:50

My DP (who was 19 at the time) met Saville on TOTP in the late 70s - he said ‘come and meet all of my friends’ and invited him to his dressing room. Saville opened the door for him and the room was full of about 8 young children - at least a couple of whom were in wheelchairs. No other adults about. Gross.
