Just a quiet place to sit. If you want to gloat or opinionate about Corbyn please go over to AIBU.

OP posts:
WashingtonIrving · 13/12/2019 00:21

Oh god @suki boris’ gloating face 😱. The horror

Foxes157 · 13/12/2019 00:22

DD is still gutted she missed out on voting on the referendum And was hoping at 19 her vote will finally count

LissJas · 13/12/2019 00:23

So Corbyn was going to magically afford people's arthritis ops and everyone's houses? Er - no.

Itsnotmessitsashithole · 13/12/2019 00:24

I’m always surprised by how out of touch I am with the general public.

Brexit, I was so sure we as a population would vote Remain. This election, I was so hopeful that Labour had some support and yet again, I’m shocked.

I honestly think it comes down to Brexit again. Up here in the North any conversation about the election ultimately becomes a conversation about Brexit. The idea of a second referendum is now laughable, as it’s pretty clear with the exit polls the country still want Brexit to happen.

I am in a ‘safe’ labour seat and the BBC exit poll has us down as a 52% chance of Conservative win. It’s a northern working class town, which has been labour for a very long time.

People just cannot seem to see past Brexit, no consideration for the NHS, homelessness, housing needs in general, people living with disabilities etc.

And whilst I support anybody’s right to vote for whoever they want to vote for, I cannot help feel like my fellow man live in a different world to me.

LissJas · 13/12/2019 00:24

I'm bowing out, I have no wish to start a bun fight. But I and everyone I know is massively pleased by the projected outcome.

bumblebee1987 · 13/12/2019 00:24

@Lissjas - Well lucky you. How fortunate you are that you are privileged enough to have a DD at private school. Fuck the rest of us with our already seriously underfunded state schools, which the Tories are planning on underfunding even further. I assume you have private healthcare too and therefore won't be needing the NHS at any point in the future?

Campurp · 13/12/2019 00:25

I’m just so disappointed.
I doubt we will be affected too badly but I feel terrible for those who are already scraping by and heavily reliant on public services. Many people will not survive this next government and although Brexit will ‘get done’, what about during and after? What a mess.

WashingtonIrving · 13/12/2019 00:26

@LissJas
This is a quiet thread for those unhappy- can I gently suggest you go elsewhere please?

Sagradafamiliar · 13/12/2019 00:26

I can't get my head around it, that this is what people want. If I could leave the country, I would.

WashingtonIrving · 13/12/2019 00:30

@Sagradafamiliar that is how I feel. It’s what the voting means for how people feel in our country. Like no one cares about the NHS, or people who have less than them

Helmlover1 · 13/12/2019 00:31

Liss- Labour would have protected the NHS. It’s the end of the NHS now as we know it under Boris and his far-right wing tories who will sell it off bit by bit. NHS workers have been warning us about this for a long time, but hey as long as ‘brexit gets done’ right?

MissingLinker · 13/12/2019 00:33

Thanks for this OP. I've just dipped a toe into AIBU but it's a frothing mess out there.
I know Labour were never going to win but I expected it closer than this (exit polls are generally pretty accurate?)

WashingtonIrving · 13/12/2019 00:35

I am a high earner. I want to pay more tax (obvs I give, and do a lot given I don’t, pay more tax that is). Why are we so fucking scared of high earners?

Foxes157 · 13/12/2019 00:36

@LissJas good for you that you and you're family is ok

My dd despite asd tendencies is not deemed severe enough for pip as she can drive and care for herself but can't hold down a job. She lives on £8 a day universal credit

The Tories are solely for the rich

VenusStarr · 13/12/2019 00:36

💔😔 Very heavy heart tonight.

Antigonads · 13/12/2019 00:36

Sorry folks.

MissLadyM · 13/12/2019 00:38

It isn't over yet!

Mner2019 · 13/12/2019 00:38

Oh god the in laws will be gloating whilst continuing to employ Polish builders, complain about the dire state of the NHS, and under funded schools...

fucking crap bollocks.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 13/12/2019 00:38

I’m a political news junkie and usually love the buzz of election night however it swings and whether or not that chimes with my own personal politics, but this is all far too awful. I’ve seen in my work day in and day out how the Tories and their mad benefit reforms and cuts to the NHS and schools are harming our most vulnerable. I can’t sit and watch that unfold tonight. It’s not interesting, it’s horrifying.

So hard not to bite back at the troll with her daughter in private school. Shame she has no compassion for the hundreds of young people sleeping on the streets. What a shameful country we have become.

WashingtonIrving · 13/12/2019 00:42

Can someone reply to a message I’ve posted - have never posted before. Driven to by terrible watching of election coverage and having no mates still up!

I'm so very sad. This is the end of the UK as we know it, be that as a member of the EU or even as a union in itself.
I despair of the fact that so few people recognise that our lack of free press has totally destroyed democracy in this country.

ginginchinchin · 13/12/2019 00:48

Echo chambers tend to hear the echo. I've had the amazing experience today of someone sharing how the tories closed our hospital (they didn't, it was labour, and only after they'd promised it was safe). This lasted until we voted in a labour candidate then the fucked us up. Do no, I don't think my nhs is safe with labour.
