WWYD - Feel so betrayed

Need some advice please.

We moved house and applied for a school place for our DC - due to circumstances we had to rent, though we ensured we met all the criteria and it was by no means a short term let. We are in this house for at least 2 years and ideally we are looking to buy once those 2 years are up or will just carry on renting where we are.

We came to know that someone wrote a letter to the school telling them that we had given false information and that we had no intention of staying in the area. The school did their investigations with us and found that we had complied with all the criteria etc.

We asked to see a copy of the letter under DPA 2018 and I have just received it. It was handwritten and matches very closely with my best friend. It also had content in it about things which only she knew. She has just asked us to be legal guardians for her 2 DC and her and her DH's power of attorney.

WWYD?

Here goes...

The letter looks like it was written quite quickly whereas the card looks neater.

The 'you' alone is very, very similar.

NerrSnerr · 25/10/2019 18:17

If there's info in there that only she'd know I'd ask her if she has told anyone that info as you've received the letter and that's what's in it and see what she says.

Asta19 · 25/10/2019 18:17

I’m not a handwriting expert but yes they look very similar.

MikeUniformMike · 25/10/2019 18:17

They do look alike, but I wouldn't say I was 100% certain.
I'd guess that both are left handed, which narrows it down quite a lot.

OatyGoaty · 25/10/2019 18:19

I was also about to.say that about the 'you'. Are there any other of the same words in both that you can show us? There is an extra loop in 'hope'.

OatyGoaty · 25/10/2019 18:19

Can you say the info that only she would know? Could she maybe have told a judgy relative?

houseofstark · 25/10/2019 18:24

I’m not so sure. The letter ‘f’ is very different on the 2 letters.
I think you’re going to have to show it to her and gauge her reaction.
If she’s just asked you to be guardian to her children, it seems odd that she’d write this letter. Does it seem out of character?

Bluntness100 · 25/10/2019 18:25

I'm not sure either, they are similar but one slants to the left, the other to the right, I wouldn't be surprised if it was two different writers.

Why would your best friend do this if she has nothing to gain?

Thedonkeyhouse · 25/10/2019 18:25

Is there any chance it's a relative of hers, one who likes to stir the pot? Sometimes family members write in very similar ways.

Your friend could possibly have been telling the relative stuff you'd told her?

handslikecowstits · 25/10/2019 18:26

Well, I’m going to stick my neck out and say I don’t think that they are the same. They are similar but I wouldn’t be surprised if your friend has mentioned what you’ve done to a relative or friend and they’ve decided to write the letter in the handwriting style of your friend and shitstir.

sausageandchips007 · 25/10/2019 18:28

She was one of very few people who knew about kids activities and clubs and has our full address which she put in the letter to the school.

I'm not convinced they're the same writer. Very similar style but they look quite different to my eye.

MyKingdomForBrie · 25/10/2019 18:32

No, they're not the same. The writing in the card is almost entirely joined up, the letter hardly at all.

Chapellass · 25/10/2019 18:32

The f is very different and if you look closely, whilst the h and g are similar to the h and y, the shape is different.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 25/10/2019 18:33

I’m not sure the handwriting is the same either, and a close friend would know you had fone nothing wrong, renting in catchment area is Absolutely fine

weebarra · 25/10/2019 18:33

I think the 'f' and 'e' are pretty different but the writing is similar.

firesong · 25/10/2019 18:35

That writing does not look the same to me - different f styles, etc... unless you're certain it was her (why would it be?!) I wouldn't accuse, now way.

Furiosa · 25/10/2019 18:35

It's quite a common hand writing style OP.

Did the school recive it anonymously?

BlueBirdGreenFence · 25/10/2019 18:35

I don't think those are from the same people. But flipping heck! Can't believe someone would be such a dick going to that effort to tout.

Chapellass · 25/10/2019 18:35

"V" also different. The birthday card writer has been taught fully cursive writing, and quite traditional lettering. The other one not.

firesong · 25/10/2019 18:35

*no

LimpidPools · 25/10/2019 18:35

I'm not convinced either OP. They do look very similar, but not identical and it's not actually a very distinctive style.

Is there anyone else within your friend's family who might have written, as previous posters have suggested?

I wouldn't go in all guns blazing in any case.

DoraleeRhodes · 25/10/2019 18:35

Have you discussed the fact that you’ve been investigated with her, if so, tell her you’ve got/are getting the letter and see how she reacts?

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 25/10/2019 18:36

I’m not convinced they’re the same tbh - the f and the r are quite distinctively formed in the letter and look quite different in the card to my eyes.
