Unplanned - Abortion Film **Trigger Warning** Title edited by MNHQ sensitive content*

Hi,
Last night I watched a film called Unplanned, which is based on a true story of a lady working within an abortion clinic called ‘Planned Parenthood’. The film itself brought me to tears on many occasions and it’s made me feel very uncomfortable surrounding abortion. I had an unplanned pregnancy with my third child but knew abortion wasn’t an option for me. I am quite shocked by the amount of abortions that still take place within our society. Does anyone else feel this way? I know we all have different views but i just wondered what other people’s thoughts were on this very sensitive topic.

^False analogy. Abolition freed people from oppression and violations of their autonomy
Anti abortion laws inflict them.^

In your opinion. But it is not a false analogy at any rate, someone asked a rhetorical question equating the longevity of a practice to its virtue. Safe abortion relies on technology anyway, "unpregnant" isn't a natural state you can be placed into in the same way a person can be released from bondage and become free..

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:20

It’s quite a small percentage of people who think that way. Much smaller than some puffed up keyboard warrior would like us to think.

idontbelievethisnsmeistaken · 22/09/2019 20:20

Oh yes, people. But not you,no of course not

What difference would it make ? Should I feel ashamed ?

idontbelievethisnsmeistaken · 22/09/2019 20:22

Much smaller than some puffed up keyboard warrior would like us to think.

resorting to personal attacks I see, a man, a keyboard warrior, an abuser or abuse victim....

Sagradafamiliar · 22/09/2019 20:23

Own it. Just commit. You're giving all these opinions anyway, you might as well have some integrity and say they're your own.

MyNewBearTotoro · 22/09/2019 20:23

This thread has lost all sense. I’m starting to wonder if a certain poster is just trying to be deliberately goady to cause drama...

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:24

Apologies, I’m just trying to get a handle on you iyswim. You seem to be flip flopping through the Forced Birthers Handbook at an alarming rate.

Can’t get much more personal than saying the ‘wages of sin is death’ though, can you.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 22/09/2019 20:26

Side note

Why is it a personal attack to call someone a man

I get it if you say im a woman...and then someone keeps saying youre a man

Or an abuse victim...that’s certainly not going to be meant as an insult

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 22/09/2019 20:26

Abuser would be an insult but no one said that

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:27

It was a good thread at the beginning. When you have people with opposing opinions but whose end goal is every child a wanted child it can be quite heartening to kick ideas around and share where you’re coming from.
When the frothers turn up shouting about HAVING SEX FOR FUNHOWDARE YOU!!! it’s less interesting.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 22/09/2019 20:28

It was saucery

StockTakeFucks · 22/09/2019 20:28

Or fill the thread up so it's forgotten and lost and any good, useful or new information buried in drivel and fanaticism.

I actually learned a lot on this thread, the study on genes and contraception in particular needs to be put out there and talked about.

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:29

You have the tone of the men I described earlier. The ones who harass women outside clinics and make them fearful for their lives. They tend to rant about women having sex for fun too.
If you’re not, you’re not Smile. I can only go off what you write here.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 22/09/2019 20:29

the study on genes and contraception in particular needs to be put out there and talked about

That was really interesting

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:31

Or the tone of a woman scared to break out of that mindset because she has become accustomed to being told sex for fun is a sin and pregnancy is the only worthwhile outcome for a woman of having it.
Again, if I am mistaken then happy to take that back.

StockTakeFucks · 22/09/2019 20:33

You would think someone that opposes abortions or the numbers of them would pick it up and focus on it,demanding more discussion on it,research and funds . I mean it should be a pro lifers wet dream to be able to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Saucery · 22/09/2019 20:34

My soapbox would be on developing hormonal interventions and contraceptives for men. Women are the ones expected to artificially induce infertility all the time unless they use condoms etc.

StockTakeFucks · 22/09/2019 20:36

Yes there definitely should be more time, effort and funds put into that.

But it's not men affected by pregnancy is it,so they don't give a shit. Even when they claim they do,it's all about how women should change, what women should do and how women's bodies should be legislated.

WestBerlin · 22/09/2019 20:37

Yes, because slavery and women having control over what happens with their own bodies is exactly the same thing.

The shark has been well and truly jumped at this point.

idontbelievethisnsmeistaken · 22/09/2019 21:04

HAVING SEX FOR FUNHOWDARE YOU

Again, this is a complete misrepresentation.

Let me try again - 99.9% of women who ever existed on the planet did not have access to safe and reliable contraception or safe abortion. Women are oppressed without access to this technology, so who was oppressing them ?

The anti abortion argument is simply that the deliberate ending of a life is morally wrong, end of.

The pro abortion argument is that nature is not fair to women and it is our moral duty to allow women to have sex without a birth resulting.

Why is it a moral obligation on society for us to provide access to risk free sex ?

To go back to the OP even the people who framed the initial law are amazed at the numbers performed these days.

WestBerlin · 22/09/2019 21:10

Because it costs us more as a society to deny ‘access to risk free sex’. Unless you think illegal abortions are desirable to legal, safe ones.

I don’t particularly care that pro lifers have a moral objection to abortion and don’t want to pay taxes towards it. They do indeed have to suck it up, as we all do.

Just admit you’re anti abortion too, you’re not doing a convincing job of playing devil’s advocate.

bondulance · 22/09/2019 21:22

The company that made that film also has some other interesting productions such as 'The Homosexual War' and 'The Bankruptcy of Atheism'. Sound like a bunch of fundie nutjobs to me.

MyNewBearTotoro · 22/09/2019 21:23

The moral obligation behind providing safe, legal abortion is that not doing so has a negative impact on the physical and mental well-being of women, increases the number of children born into poverty or abusive/ neglectful family situations and increases the number of women turning to unsafe medical procedures to try and end their unwanted pregnancies. Ensuring women have free access to safe, legal, non-judgemental abortion services has a positive impact on society.

Solihooley · 22/09/2019 21:25

Women are oppressed without access to this technology, so who was oppressing them ?

Men

The pro abortion argument is that nature is not fair to women and it is our moral duty to allow women to have sex without a birth resulting.

I just don’t understand. ‘Nature isn’t fair’ to lots of people. Humans are clever though and we’ve developed lots of modern medicine to make our lives better. Should we never intervene with nature? Should we not cure people of cancer? Cancer cells are after all alive too.

bondulance · 22/09/2019 21:28

Some people are against contraception but it's still available on the NHS. People also object to nuclear weapons, teaching about evolution, stem-cell research, same-sex marriage and blood transfusions. But tax-payer money still goes towards them.
