The weather where I am this week has been crap, hot one minute, then blowing a hoolie and lashing it down the next, I never know what to wear each day and end up either cold and wet or hot and bothered because the weather hasn't made up its mind and I get caught out!
Don't get me wrong when summer is actually SUMMER ie. blue skies, sunny & a gentle breeze- I love it!!!! But this is just urgh.

I'm longing for crunchy leaves, boots, furry gilets, hot chocolate, pumpkins, roast dinners, dying my hair as dark as my soul 😆... anyone else with me?!

Yes!!!! Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons.

Summer is just a riot, roasting one minute then utterly pishing it down the next while still being roasting. I don’t know how many times I’ve hung out a washing and 15 minutes later had to run like the wind to take it back in Grin

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 08/08/2019 22:22

Oh and although I sound like a Mumsnet cliche to like autumn (and spring) the majority of my friends and family are the same. Maybe it’s living in the west of Scotland that does it to us Grin

homemadecommunistrussia · 08/08/2019 22:35

Yes, summer is miserable and sweaty, I really don't understand why people look forward to it so much and then moan that it doesn't meet their expectations?!Confused
Give me any other time of year and It's an improvement. But Autumn is the very best.GrinCake

DrCoconut · 09/08/2019 11:30

BearRabbitPants, if you want a hot drink why not have one? Confused I'm about to embark on my 3rd cup of tea today.

OtraCosaMariposa · 09/08/2019 11:34

If we could guarantee cold, crisp, sunny then bring it on.

But autumn is more likely to be wet, stormy, windy and grey. Totally depressing.

CharDeeMacDennis · 09/08/2019 11:49

Yes, me. And I'm not kidding myself about the reality, I'm totally fine with wet, grey and dark. Much prefer that to this stuffy blah nothing weather we have at the minute.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 09/08/2019 12:04

Yes and No. I think I just get to a point whereby I look at the the elderberry tree and think Yep it's almost autumn. (Summer starts with elderflowers and ends with elderberries)

So I'm sad to see summer slipping away, but I'm truly emracung Autum today - seeing as it's pishing down outside -
Holed up in the kitchen making Rhubarb Wine and BlackBerry compote. Blackberries have been big and juicy here for 2 to 3 weeks now. Just had some of the compote on thick Greek yoghurt. Divine!
Contemplating prepping a chilli for tomorrow now!

ConorMcGregorsChin · 09/08/2019 12:04

Embracing Autumn. Ffs

Benjispruce · 09/08/2019 12:06

I haven’t had my summer holiday yet! September is often lovely too. Come 1/10 I’ll embrace autumn, not before.

BearRabbitPants · 09/08/2019 13:09

@DrCoconut I just don't "enjoy" hot drinks in summer ! Weird I know!

DrCoconut · 09/08/2019 17:42

Fair enough bear, I mainline them 52/12 Grin

HeadintheiClouds · 09/08/2019 17:45

It’s bucketing down here with a wind that almost sent the gazebo into next door’s garden. I’m bloody loving it!

HeadintheiClouds · 09/08/2019 17:47

Rhubarb wine and blackberry compote... Couldn’t get more autumny if you tried. Envy

EnidButton · 09/08/2019 17:48

Yes! I love Autumn.

PinkBlossomInSummer · 09/08/2019 17:52

No, I hate autumn and winter with dark depressing nights and dark mornings. I count down the days until the nights start getting lighter and sit under my sun lamp. It’s only the beginning of August and it’s still summer as far as I’m concerned. I refuse to admit summer is over until the end of September at the earliest.

HeadintheiClouds · 09/08/2019 17:53

Well, it is still summer, to be fair. I just happen to wish it wasn’t Grin

Delatron · 09/08/2019 17:55

September is often better than August. It’s not over yet people. Put yer blankets and chilli away!

dementedma · 09/08/2019 17:56

I love autumn but the MN cliches are ridiculous. All kicking up the leaves, and snuggling under throws with hot choc...
In reality its grey, wet and miserable for a lot of the time with worse to come as winter heaves into sight. The odd, glorious crisp day does not make up for all the shitty ones.

EnidButton · 09/08/2019 18:20

Early Autumn where I live is crisp leaves, blazing colours on the trees, hot chocolate and logfires.

Grey miserable days are more late Winter ime.

Rockbird · 09/08/2019 18:24

But everyone has a different definition of shitty. Grey miserable times are my highlights. Blazing sun, bright lights and long days are my definition of shitty.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 09/08/2019 18:27

I love all the seasons and think we re lucky to have seasons. I have friends in Texas and Dubai and they really miss the colder seasons.
I love summer so we go out a lot and everything seems a bit busy so when autumn comes, I find it more restful and slower.
We do go out to a lot of parks and the kids do kick up leaves, we live blankets on the sofa when we watch films in the evening and have soups and hot chocolate, sometimes out on walks. It’s not a cliche.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 09/08/2019 18:28

I love flip flop weather but I cant wait to snuggle down into the autumn/winter.I hate dark mornings but love dark nights.

Deelish75 · 09/08/2019 18:49

I saw a couple of conker husks in the park yesterday, so autumn is definitely on its way. I do like autumn but I’m not ready for summer to be over with yet!

DC still got 3 weeks off and DP is off for the last two weeks so keeping fingers crossed for good weather so we can do some nice day trips.

(we’re in the South East where the weather has been alright - even today the weather has been okay since lunchtime)

ilovesooty · 09/08/2019 18:52

The clichés make me irrationally irritated. I become tempted to tell people to shove their cosy and their snuggle somewhere unmentionable.
