Can we have a Star Trek thread?

Been binge watching DS9 mostly. I love Star Trek, but some things make me wonder.,

Considering they must have had long shifts, I wonder what breaks they got.

And how could they actually breed with other species. Was that actually ever explained?

Anyone got a favourite/worst species?

My worst is the Skreea (sp?) from a DS9 ep. So ungrateful and wanted to claim Bajor as their own. Although there are other god awful species too.

What’s the feeling on Babylon 5?

I absolutely love it. It's got real intelligence and depth.

Does anyone remember the Trekathons in the cinemas in the 90s? (This was watching all the OS films back-to-back). I think I went to three.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 00:33

I've just found out that the Promenade directory on DS9 has a reference to Red Dwarf. Made me chuckle.

DS9 does have the sexiest doctor,

Well, no, that’d be McCoy in reboot - however, that’s just wrongGrin

If we're going to bring up other scifi series, does anyone else recall Firefly?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_(TV_series)

I'm still gutted that it only ran one season,

ErrolTheDragon · 11/08/2019 09:35

Firefly was brilliant, it helped a bit that they made the film but WTF was it cancelled?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 12:37

Has anyone watched the Expanse yet.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 11/08/2019 14:58

I've watched the first two seasons. We had a binge on various shows when we got Netflix, haven't kept track of more series of them coming out.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 15:11

Was it good? My brother says to watch it.

scissy · 11/08/2019 15:22

Expanse is excellent, although it has moved to Prime for S3.
My favourite Star Trek is DS9, also loved Babylon 5 and Firefly.
I remember eagerly waiting for new episodes at 6pm on BBC2 Grin
To throw the cat among the pigeons, who is people's favourite Captain? Whilst DS9 is my favourite series, Picard is my favourite captain, closely followed by Janeway.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 15:28

Janeway and Picard. Cant pick between them.

Anyone got a favourite alien?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 11/08/2019 15:44

Captains - Picard hands down, but then I'd go for Pike or Archer. (I liked Enterprise, apart from that bloody awful final episode.)

MissConductUS · 11/08/2019 16:12

It's hard to pick among the captains, so many good ones. Picard overall (it helps that he's a New Yorker now) and Janeway second.

Favorite alien would be Schram, the Andorian. I love the friendship he had with Archer and watching his antenna wave around.

PurpleDaisies · 11/08/2019 16:16

Just found this thread! I’m watching DS9 again right now. I’m enjoying it much more than the first time through.

I’ll throw out the question best baddie, with my vote going up Gul Dukat.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/08/2019 16:25

Another vote for Gul Dukat. I loved the interaction between Dukat and Garak.

Best captain is a hard one. Picard, Janeway, Archer. By a hairsbreath.

tinytemper66 · 11/08/2019 16:28

Have you seen the tongue in cheek 'Orvil'?

SapatSea · 11/08/2019 16:38

Captain: Picard or Sisko. I think Benjamin Sisko is very under rated.

In Futurama Phililp J Fray says "I learnt all my leadership skills from Capt. Catherine Janeway". Grin When organising something goes a bit awry in our house that's what we always say in mitigation.

SapatSea · 11/08/2019 16:39

Fry not Fray

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 17:23

Another vote for Gul Dukat.

As I said before, hes fascinating. That's why in Civil defence it's nice to see Karma catch up to him.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 17:25

Here is some Dukat/Garak banter.

OP posts:
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/08/2019 18:11

I totally forgot about Sisko!!

It's very hard to choose between them.

Maybe Picard, and everyone else huddles into second place Grin

Thanks for the clips!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 18:20

I didnt like Sisko at first, but he grew on me.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 11/08/2019 18:46

Favorite alien would be Schram, the Andorian.

It's hard to choose just one alien (I assume Spock, being half human, isn't included and also because clearly he's the best character in the whole canon regardless of category other than 'female'Grin) but, yes, Shran was good but maybe not quite as good as Weyoun Wink

More recently I'm liking Saru a lot.

Arrowfanatic · 11/08/2019 19:08

I LOVE star trek. DS9 was my favourite for a long time, but I've recently rewatched Enterprise and i think its my new favourite (although that could be because Archer has a spectacular arse in that jumpsuit Grin )

Favourite alien, probably Cardassians. They were just so self righteous.

Favourite baddie, i liked the Borg and the Xindi.

I actually love the reboot films, although i know thats frowned upon. Into Darkness was full of action and Beyond was great especially with how the dove into a bit Kirks boredom with the 5 year mission. I wonder how they'll do a new one with Chekov Sad and i heard a rumour Chris Hemsworth may be in it as George Kirk, reprising his role in the 2009 film. Here's hoping.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 19:17

Archer has a spectacular arse in that jumpsuit

I fully agree with that.

OP posts:
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/08/2019 19:42

Archer has a spectacular arse in that jumpsuit

Ha ha, this made me laugh Grin yes he does

I don't know Shram, as I haven't watched all of Enterprise yet. Weyoun is a brilliant baddie.
