Can we have a Star Trek thread?

Been binge watching DS9 mostly. I love Star Trek, but some things make me wonder.,

Considering they must have had long shifts, I wonder what breaks they got.

And how could they actually breed with other species. Was that actually ever explained?

Anyone got a favourite/worst species?

My worst is the Skreea (sp?) from a DS9 ep. So ungrateful and wanted to claim Bajor as their own. Although there are other god awful species too.

And don't even get me started on Inertial Dampers!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2019 21:53

DS bounced up brightly at the end and said Episode 2 Now!?!?

I hope you told him he now had to wait 6 months

DeRigueurMortis · 06/08/2019 22:13

Wilt long wait I'm afraid.

Latest is 10 episodes on Netflix early 2020 (was previously slated as late this year).

Oh, will it be on Netflix then, I read amazon prime and I assumed it wouldn't be on more than one straight away?

DeRigueurMortis · 06/08/2019 23:01

I read Netflix will still release it as an episode a week rather than as a binge watch proposition.

DeRigueurMortis · 06/08/2019 23:02

Netflix seem to have secured the rights rather than Amazon.

Not sure why.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2019 23:11

This, dated Monday, is where in saw prime. Confused

I watched a fair few TNG in the months leading up to DC birth thanks to Netflix (and had it on while in the induction ward - I have photo proof!) However since DC has grown up a bit I've not had the time. Have seen Discovery though.

I love the Lifeforms song from the Generations film, saw that when it came out Grin

This thread has made me start trawling through Star Trek things I can buy for my birthday. In 3 days dammit and I want something Trekkie.

With warp drive. How can they be sure that they dont warp next to neutron star or something.

OP posts:
Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/08/2019 12:45

Google maps.

Laiste · 07/08/2019 12:48

Here's one. There's no up or down in space but all the other ships they ever spot are always the right way up. You never see a Cardassian ship hove into view upside down or just a bit skew whiff - everyone sitting looking out the forward viewer with their heads tilted over Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 07/08/2019 12:53

Cardassian ships are run by uber efficient officers. Never would they suffer a wonky ship.

So glad I found my peeps!!

Massive TNG fan

Practically in love with Data and Guinan is pretty epic too.
Wetting my pants for the new Picard series. Think you are right it’s on Prime.

HelloyouKant · 07/08/2019 12:58

As greed Lastie - there is no up or down so how do they all face the right way.

The thing that gets me is the time zones and stuff - do they keep starfleet headquarters time?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2019 12:58

Yes, and there are occasions where the ability of the captain to think in three dimensions and sneak up from above or below is considered remarkably clever.Grin

I think in Enterprise there was mention of a zero G spot in the middle of ships (maybe particular cargo vessels?) because the artificial gravity was - quite sensibly - symmetrical so the ship didn't overall have a 'up' and down. Just like on planets.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 07/08/2019 13:16

This thread has made realise i have a serious thing for the cardassians.

I need therapy, dont I?

OP posts:
Laiste · 07/08/2019 14:18

I did NOT know the Enterprise had a G spot!

SciFiScream · 07/08/2019 14:23

I met someone whose name inspired me to start talking to them about ST. They weren't a fan necessarily but did announce

"I've got the plans for a fully working warp drive in my head"

My chin hit the floor. Anyone know Branson or Musk so that we can get this funded?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 07/08/2019 16:50

Warp drive. The nerd in me has screamed joy

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2019 17:40

Anyone else got a DC whose dream job was engineer on a starship?Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 07/08/2019 18:07

My DD's dream job in Architect.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 07/08/2019 18:31

I'm mid-re-watch of Voyages, although my first love was TNG. It occurs to me now how very creepy and unpleasant Neelix is towards Kes. She's 2 FFS!!! Ugh.

"Get the cheese to sickbay," may be the best line in any program ever.

And I am reliably informed that the reason everyone is the same way up is something to do with the deflector array. Obviously.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/08/2019 20:40

Chromoton particles. Gosh, they cause such hassle. (I haven't a clue what they are...)
