Can we have a Star Trek thread?

Been binge watching DS9 mostly. I love Star Trek, but some things make me wonder.,

Considering they must have had long shifts, I wonder what breaks they got.

And how could they actually breed with other species. Was that actually ever explained?

Anyone got a favourite/worst species?

My worst is the Skreea (sp?) from a DS9 ep. So ungrateful and wanted to claim Bajor as their own. Although there are other god awful species too.

I didnt like Weyoun. He always looked like he was one mean word away from crying like a baby.

Weyoun always struck me as a bit of a toadie.

I just started rewatching DS9. I'd forgotten about the bit about him blackmailing Quark to stay on the station by throwing Nog in jail for a prank. He was a serious badass, as shown by this clip from For the Uniform.

We've been discussing what alien/baddie and captain is best but what about Doctors? Who would you actaully want to treat you?

I'd trust Julian Bashir and then the EMH. Wouldn't want OS Bones, you would only be offered a sedative or a stimulant! and he scared me as a child as he was always so angry and was nasty to wonderful Mr Spock. Not keen on Dr. Phlox or the tap dancing doctor either but would be okay with Dr. Pulaski (even though my DC don't like her as she was mean to Data).

Bashir, because he was so nice and The Doctor, because he knew what he was doing.

Phlox had a creepy face. Bones was just off. Crusher was too busy mooning over Picard and her bratty son was always in the way. Pulaski was a cow to Data.

Apologies, upon rereading I see I neglected to name Capt. Sisko as the badass I was referring to.

And I misspelled Commander Shran. I may have to put myself on report.

I also liked Bashir and the EMH. Kes was a terrible medical assistant.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 21:04

I agree about Kes. I'd have rather Tom Paris assisting.

PICARD! No better Captain. Not one. Never. No way. No how. PICARD. He's on my laminated lair you know.

Janeway next.

Favourite alien? Q probably. Though I also love Vulcans.

SciFiScream · 11/08/2019 21:18
  • list not lair. Though I'll have him in my lair too...
Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/08/2019 21:18

I didn't like Dr Pulaski at all.

I liked the Borg Queen. All those millions of voices in her head yet none able to engage in meaningful conversation. Just drones obeying commands. All that power yet the most incredible loneliness. She thinks she is superior yet wants desperately for what humans etc have with companionship and exchanges of ideas.
Alice Krige was amazing but I do like the interactions between Borg Queen and Janeway throughout Voyager.

Also have a soft spot for Q. Not quite a baddie though. Was nice watching him grow up!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/08/2019 21:22

I also like Quarks family, purely because of how brave they were for supposed cowards.

You've omitted Reboot McCoy ... no contest.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 11/08/2019 22:55

I can't believe 'Orville' hasn't been mentioned more. I loved TNG and can't believe how much more Star Trekky "Orville" is, compared to eg Discovery.

Also, Firefly was awesome. I hope, whoever was responsible in its cancellation is secretly cringing everytime it is mentioned... Not that they would be reading mn, I suppose.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 11/08/2019 23:06

Cant judge on Reboot McCoy as I've not really watched them much. Reboot McCoy is uber dreamy though.

Probably not, but I hope they saw that episode of Big Bang Theory where Sheldon was confident there would be many series of it.

Arrowfanatic · 13/08/2019 19:19

Doctor Bashir of course, 2nd choice is reboot McCoy.

And keep Troi from TNG far away from me, however movie Troi was much more amenable.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 13/08/2019 19:32

Early Troi was very meek and daydreamy. Later Troi was much better.

Seemed to coincide with getting rid of the short dress and knee boots combo Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 13/08/2019 20:56

She looked better in a Starfleet uniform.

This thread is a joy to read!
My fave Captains are Janeway, Picard, Archer. I have never managed to watch TOS. I adore Janeway. Seven of Nine was my teenage crush. I finally managed tp watch all Treks last year on netflix. I've never been happier!
The EMH is the best Dr. But i did enjoy Bashir's smugness.

Weatherwaxed · 14/08/2019 18:10

Can't stand Sisko but rather enjoyed the rest of DS9.

Arrowfanatic · 14/08/2019 19:27

Jake was the worst DS9 character by a country mile. Even as an adult he was more annoying than even Wesley Crusher

Arrowfanatic · 14/08/2019 19:30

Favourite Engineer:

Trip, Scottie, LaForge, O'Brian or B'Lanna?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 14/08/2019 19:36

O'Brien and B'lanna. Found Geordi and Scottie to quie meh. Trip was entertaining somewhat.

For any Enterprise fans on the thread.

I found this fanfiction years ago. It's funny.

Weatherwaxed · 14/08/2019 20:18

B'lanna i think. Followed by O'Brien.
