Can we have a Star Trek thread?

Been binge watching DS9 mostly. I love Star Trek, but some things make me wonder.,

Considering they must have had long shifts, I wonder what breaks they got.

And how could they actually breed with other species. Was that actually ever explained?

Anyone got a favourite/worst species?

My worst is the Skreea (sp?) from a DS9 ep. So ungrateful and wanted to claim Bajor as their own. Although there are other god awful species too.

Will watch Young Spock.
??? Is that going to be another spin off - I can't find any reference to it?

chocolateworshipper · 06/08/2019 11:55

Most annoying ST character award - I'm torn between Wesley and Kes

Although Will was fabulous in Big Bang

Laiste · 06/08/2019 13:38

For me, most annoying = Dr. Crusher, mother of second most annoying - Wesley.

Favorite - hmmmm - well - Kirk obvs! Grin

and then Data probably.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2019 13:43

I don't remember Kes being actively annoying. Apart from the episode where she came back in a massive snit for no good reason.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2019 13:45

Favorite - hmmmm - well - Kirk obvs!

For those who grew up with TOS, there's obviously two camps, Kirk or Spock - and I'm afraid on this one you're simply wrong.Grin

OvO · 06/08/2019 13:47

Kes was practically perfect in every way. So annoying. Grin I was glad when she left.

Please no one shame me, I was but a child! But I had a huge crush on Wesley Crusher. Huuuuuge.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 13:51

Data is my fave in Starfleet, then Spock, then Jadzia, then Bashir. Garak is my fave non Starfleet.

My worst character is pouty T'Pol. Even for a Vulcan she was bloody boring. Even no nonsense, no emotions Tuvok had more personality.

I just finished rewatching Enterprise. I rather like T'Pol. She's a strong, intelligent woman who gets what she wants. Trip is pretty cute too. Smile

Laiste · 06/08/2019 14:04

ErrolTheDragon tbh i dithered between Kirk and Spock even though i typed 'ovbs' Grin It's the fact that my first little crush was Kirk which swayed me.

The scene in WoK - Spock, even as he is dying, trying to straighten his uniform when he sees Kirk - has me tearing up every bloody time!

proudestofmums · 06/08/2019 14:30

And another thing - there was never any privacy in sick bay. People would wander in and out at will while patients were being seen. Including the doctor;s son - Wesley Crusher was in any case the most irritating character in my view - smug knowall brat!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 14:42

I've been reading about a character from TNG called Simon Tarses. He was a quarter Romulan and thus accused of being a spy. Kinda sad really.

I wouldn't like to choose between Data and Picard as my favourite character. Special mention to Deanna Troi who I think was the most improved character - annoyingly simpering over Riker at the start, but the acting by the end (e.g. talking to Picard when his family died in the fire) was excellent. Favourite character in Voyager was definitely the Doctor - I saw him in real life and he is very funny!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/08/2019 16:12

I can't find where I read it now. Might have been just assumptions as Netflix did so well out of Discovery but they now have the scene set with Spock joining Pike on the Enterprise. It would make sense to carry it on if the audience is there. Grab the younger audience again for a fresh start.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 16:17

Young Spock is going to be in Discovery.

Young Spock.

Oh right, good, it sounded like yet another series!

It's a pity Young Spock looks nothing like Spock, especially without the beard.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 16:55

I really want them to make a new series that's set in 2400/2500's. Move forward in the trek universe.

Young Spock is going to be in Discovery.

Wait a mo... just realised we may have been at cross purposes. I've seen season 2, I wouldn't have thought YoungSpock would be in season 3.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/08/2019 17:02

I'd like them to further the universe as well.
Like a PP, my teenage Star Trek crush was Tom Paris of Voyager!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 17:07

My mistake, he was in season 2.

OP posts:
Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/08/2019 17:23

Don't forget though that if they do continue with Discovery, then that technically will have to be set in the future which would be interesting.

I like the ideals of trek and the federation of planets etc but I reckon it would eventually implode and they'd end up with a Brexit type scenario (Trekxit? FOPxit?) and those responsible will bugger off and retire to Risa.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 17:52

I'd like to retire to Risa.

Does anyone actually holiday anywhere else but Risa? No skiing vacays or anything?

I've always thought there was a great big MAHOOOOOSIVE elephant in the Star trek universe.

The transporter. If such a thing existed then they would have no need for any jails, or storage facilities, or cargo ships, or even any weapons. The transporter would be the ultimate weapon. Just "beam" the enemy up! No need to fire a single phaser.

Also, if the replicator can make any type of food then why couldnt it make spare parts? If replicator technology existed then nothing would ever be made by hand again. Just one giant replicator, churning out whatever we needed, another cup of coffee, another space ship, all instantly.

And the Holo Deck! Come on! I think we all know what that would have actually been used for! Blush

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/08/2019 18:16

I'll go back to my point that the holodecks on Voyager had a lot of hard use in 7 years. Do you think the holodecks needs hose down sometimes?

Cant believe I even asked that question.
