Just after some opinions...if someone left the caravan in this state would you refund their deposit? No dust pan and brush in unit

Hendra holiday park off the list then. Just think how much good will they have lost.

Do you have the original contract? What does it say there?

Do they have photos proving the trim was not broken before you arrived?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/07/2019 14:54

The top of that list says “key deposit breakdown” which suggests they’re referring to all the cleaning as part of the “key deposit”. Which I don’t really understand. Key deposit is for if you lose the key or don’t hand it in, surely?

ALittleBitAlexis · 29/07/2019 14:54

Obviously OP can confirm, but looking at their site it looks like they call the damage/cleaning deposit a 'key deposit', so there might not be a separate key-related issue.

Interested in this thread?

Is there anyone more senior you could contact from the company- absolutely disgusting particularly the £30 for the key issue?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/07/2019 14:57

Ahh, thank you ALittle. So going by that I’m assuming there was no separate Key issue because they seem the sort to have listed the whole lot on one page.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/07/2019 15:00

What I mean Is, what they have listed there as time spent dealing with key deposit dispute is just the time spent dealing with the cleaning/emails etc. They’re just calling it key deposit dispute when the rest of us would call it “deposit dispute”

iheartroycropper · 29/07/2019 15:06

I have now been banned from the site for challenging this
Having looked at the reviews on trip advisor that seems to be their answer to everything

CitadelsofScience · 29/07/2019 15:30

Oh some of those reviews on Trip Advisor match with your experience Op!

iMatter · 29/07/2019 15:37

You've been banned?

FFS. That's ridiculous.

ThatCurlyGirl · 29/07/2019 15:50

WTAF?!?! This is crazy OP they are ASKING for a daily mail sad face story at some point! Sorry, shit for you Thanks

Hodge00079 · 29/07/2019 15:52

Based on the photos they are having a giraffe.

It is a bit messy but within normal clean up after guests. Unless the policy is not to do any cleaning up and rely on guests.

I understand it is the principle but unless you want to take it to the small claims court. Otherwise I would draw a line under it.

Leave a review. Not easy but factual rather than rant would probably be best. Reviews that have photos and ask how would you feel in this situation get the reader thinking. Not suggesting you would rant but I know I have got sucked into this trap when I have been fuming.

If you do put anything on social media I would be careful that it is not deflamation. Nothing wrong with facts through.

If you are not going to pursue it I would probably be inclined to say that you are not going contact them again and just send link to this post.

Hodge00079 · 29/07/2019 15:56

Curlygirl, I thought that. Especially as OP has mobility issues.

RedDogsBeg · 29/07/2019 16:17

Citadel I can only see a couple of poor reviews on TripAdvisor the rest are glowing, which is odd in itself as you would expect more balance with some very good, some very bad and a fair few in the middle.

ALittleBitAlexis · 29/07/2019 16:23

A trip advisor review from 2019 mentions that even though you pay the deposit by card, they return it to you by a cheque in the post! That seems bizarre to me, as if they're hoping people won't bother to cash it and they can keep the money.

They sound very tight indeed, and it's hardly cheap in the first place.

ScreamingValenta · 29/07/2019 16:26

They can't charge you for their time! That's what they get paid for. If you run a holiday park you have to expect to spend time dealing with your guests. That's like being charged extra if you go to the supermarket and one of the staff has to spend some time showing you which aisle the tinned tomatoes have been moved to.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/07/2019 16:31

that even though you pay the deposit by card, they return it to you by a cheque in the post!

That’s particularly odd considering as a business they will be getting charged for processing every cheque!

ScreamingValenta · 29/07/2019 16:39

Just a thought - the park have a 'Best of British' flag prominently on their website - Best of British have a comments form on their website - it could be worth contacting them on the grounds they are endorsing a park with a seemingly draconian policy on deposits. They say:

All Best of British parks meet the following quality criteria:

Offer high quality facilities and amenities.
Assure the highest standards of customer service possible on their park.
Provide customers that additional special attention in making them welcome on arrival at the park and throughout their stay.
Maintain a consistant quality offering.

ScreamingValenta · 29/07/2019 16:40

(Misspelling of 'consistent' theirs not mine Grin)

mathanxiety · 29/07/2019 16:59

Take them to small claims court.

They cannot charge you for time spent dealing with them over this dispute. You will get at least £30 off the bill, and maybe more since you have photos and the cleaning job should have taken them about five minutes, and they did not supply basic cleaning tools like a dustpan and brush.

They are a crowd of cheeky chancers.

mathanxiety · 29/07/2019 17:01

But in future, you need to do an inspection with the person who lets you into the caravan, and all broken items need to be noted - the window frame for instance. Or management needs to be notified within ten minutes of arrival if you find dirt or anything broken. You need to do a very quick check as soon as you put your bags down.

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/07/2019 20:44

Those are dried crumbs on the carpet. That looks like a bit of pizza topping on the oven. They’re obviously being ridiculous.

Are they refusing to return the £30 or now expecting the extra money? Did you pay the £30 by credit card? I’d contact your bank and ask for a refund under section 75. If you did a bank transfer, ask if the bank adheres to the voluntary refund for a scam.

Failing that, small claims.

PriestessModwena · 29/07/2019 20:57

Oh dear this isn't that good for Hendra.

Drove past there a few times and always imagined it to be really nice, but the reaction doesn't scream well trained staff / management, it definitely doesn't scream super customer service!

Good luck OP

madeabooboo · 29/07/2019 21:17

Always had a fab time and been treated so well in the past. Can only imagine from his attitude he is a new and very inexperienced manager

What an officious little prick “Chris” is.

OP we went to a place called Hengar Manor which won’t be that far from there. It’s little chalets rather than caravans but it might be a place to consider in future.

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 29/07/2019 23:07

It's a shame Hendra can't apply the over zealous cleaning standards to their swimming pool changing rooms.

What a bloody shambles.
