Just after some opinions...if someone left the caravan in this state would you refund their deposit? No dust pan and brush in unit

For me, I would have picked up the apple, tortilla chips & wipes down the stain. Not sure about the window frame one.

I can see from your side, ok you haven't trashed it, but there was a bit of mess. If they're not local, they have to pay for either the parks cleaner or a private cleaner.

From experience staying in caravans, we left it as we found it. We bought disposable wipes, washing liquid, sponge etc.

Celebelly · 27/07/2019 14:49

Surely they can only withhold the deposit if there is damage caused to that value, or mess left that takes an excessive amount of time to clean. A few bits on the floor and a smear of food on an oven door is hardly hours of work, when presumably the deposit is fairly sizeable? Obviously in an ideal world they wouldn't be there but given the state some people leave places in, it's pretty small fry.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/07/2019 14:49

I would return the deposit. Leaving it clean and tidy doesn't mean the site doesn't still have to clean the caravan, which would easily deal with these.

I mean you could have picked up all those bits off the floor before leaving but as long as nothing is broken or damaged I don't get why they're withholding the deposit.

PriestessModwena · 27/07/2019 14:54

Couldn't another family member have picked up bits? I get you struggle mobility wise, I also get that the deposit would be handy.

It's not disastrous, I guess it depends if it was privately rented, or through a park.

Soola · 27/07/2019 14:59

Ok it was left a bit grubby but nothing too eye popping so I’d refund your deposit but make a note of you and probably not have you again if you asked.

After every guest the place should be thoroughly cleaned anyway regardless of whether it looks visibly dirty or not so I doubt the owner has incurred extra costs on top of normal cleaning after your stay.

RedDogsBeg · 27/07/2019 14:59

I can only see the photos posted in your first post, OP, are there more?

Aqueo517 · 27/07/2019 15:02

They should refund you the deposit. The caravan should have a thorough clean before the next guests and that’s just a bit of general dirt.

Pipandmum · 27/07/2019 15:03

Did the owners send you the pics as a reason they are not refunding your deposit?
I used to have a holiday let and it was cleaned after every stay regardless how it was left. The only reason I would not refund a deposit would be if they broke something or left it in such a mess the cleaner had to do extra time, and then I’d charge only the extra amount it cost me to get it cleaned.
When I was renting a holiday home my child scribbled on the walls! I was charged for that obviously.
I can’t see from those pics any reason why someone would retain the deposit as surely the usual clean would have taken care of that mess in seconds.

Whisky2014 · 27/07/2019 15:06

Although it is not nice I don't see any of these things as an issue to hold back a deposit. They are taking the piss. How much is it?

rwalker · 27/07/2019 15:10

I would of thought deposit for damage this is basic cleaning and not much at that they are taking the piss

Well it looks pretty messy but a good hoover would help. I wouldn't have left rotten apple on the floor or cheese on the oven door.

I'd expect to have a few quid held back on my deposit tbf.

ItsAllGoingToBeMagnificent · 27/07/2019 15:14

Did they expect you to thoroughly clean it for the next occupant, wash and change the sheets too? I always try to leave wherever we have been staying neat and tidy but I don’t hoover up or clean the place top to bottom, a quick 10 minutes once we’ve packed our stuff in the car.

It just looks like you’ve missed a bit and probably couldn’t see the apple there unless you got under the table. They are being cheeky to keep your deposit for something that could be cleaned up in about 30 seconds. I’d be giving them a very poor review and warning others that they kept your deposit. Probably a nice little bonus for them every time someone rents it out.

JacquesHammer · 27/07/2019 15:15

What is the wording surrounding withholding deposit?

Absolutely nothing in those images suggests anything other than the usual end of tenancy clean would be required. Is there more to it?

MmmBlowholes · 27/07/2019 15:15

Wow, it's not a lot of mess but it sure is lazy and inconsiderate.

JemSynergy · 27/07/2019 15:20

Whenever I say in rented accommodation for a holiday I always without fail leave it spotless. I just wouldn't have the nerve to leave it in a dirty mess. I usually rent from owners so I like to respect their property.

SteeperThanHell · 27/07/2019 15:21

I wasn't about to buy a new roll the last morning when I had just cleaned all the surfaces table etc on the last morning

Why not if there was still cleaning up to be done?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 27/07/2019 15:24

It is a bit grim. Maybe they could withhold a bit but not all?

I don't understand about the kitchen roll or why you were having to sort it all out without any help from the rest of the family.

Rainonmyguitar · 27/07/2019 15:28

It doesn't look too bad at all. It would take one minute to clean that so I would refund the deposit.

ShirleyPhallus · 27/07/2019 15:30

Do people really stay in places you need to clean yourself when you leave?

Surely cleaners come in after you’ve been and gone. Bit gross isn’t it just to rely on the previous occupants efforts rather than a proper clean

ScreamingValenta · 27/07/2019 15:33

The dirt/mess is negligible. They're just using it as an excuse to con more money out of you.

AnyFucker · 27/07/2019 15:33

If you :didn't notice" the mess you left how come you have very explicit pictures of it ?

RubbingHimSourly · 27/07/2019 15:34

Its a whole apple. That shouldn't bother them at all and is easily missed.

The rest is to be expected. They're taking the piss. They should have their own cleaners going in, are they hiring cleaners who don't clean ?? 🧐

RubbingHimSourly · 27/07/2019 15:35

AnyFucker I'm guessing the caravan owners sent them to her
