Just after some opinions...if someone left the caravan in this state would you refund their deposit? No dust pan and brush in unit

😂 Imagine rocking up with all your cleaning products! Why not bring your vacuum too?

madeabooboo · 28/07/2019 21:05

I haven't damaged any property Confused

Did you tell them about the broken window frame as soon as you arrived?

Because if you didn't, then it's your word against theirs that the window frame was broken when you arrived.

MN holiday checklist:

  1. Sun hat
  2. Bucket and spade
  3. Industrial floor buffer
...
FelicisNox · 28/07/2019 21:19

If they haven't left suitable cleaning equipment then your deposit needs returning.

Remind them of this and your mobility issues and make it clear they are being too harsh.

I take it this is a private rental? I've been stung like this before, hence why I don't use them. Often any crumb is an excuse not to return the deposit.

I always tidy up but it if I wanted to do a deep clean I would have stayed at home.

Jellybeansincognito · 28/07/2019 21:42

How much was the deposit? What does it say in your contract agreement before you stayed? Did they give you the agreement when you paid your deposit?

Jellybeansincognito · 28/07/2019 21:45

It’s not like you’ve completely trashed the place, it wouldn’t take very long to clean up.

It really does all boil down to what was on your agreement with them, and whether that agreement has any legal basis.

And the amount of deposit really depends whether it’s worth venturing to a small claims court.

Also- the owners of the caravan, are they a company? Or completely private? Could you contact the provider of the land the caravan is sat on?

If they’re taking deposits for such little mess and actually walking around looking for little signs of being lived with in the caravan after every use, they’d rack up quite a lot of cash.

Can you leave a review for them for anyone else to see? Others may come forward.

It's a bit sloppy. Esp the apple. But aside from that, is just general cleaning. Nothing that can't be cleaned up in a couple of minutes during a standard clean.

Kate0902900908 · 28/07/2019 22:43

This is general cleaning behave!!! They are trying to steal your deposit!!!

regmover · 28/07/2019 23:08

Let's face it, nobody in their right mind who rents out holiday accommodation could expect to rely on outgoing guests to clean the property for the next visitors. What happens when someone leaves a mess and doesn't care about losing their deposit? So - holiday accommodation will have cleaners coming in, and a few crumbs on the floor and a missed apple under a table is nothing to them. Pick up the apple and they'll have to vac the floors anyway.

Shmithecat2 · 28/07/2019 23:19

I have a caravan. I would return your deposit but I probably wouldn't hire it out to you again.

Booyahkasha · 28/07/2019 23:40

? doesn't everyone going to a caravan take spray, kitchen roll and a scrubber? How else would you clean?

Scrumptiousbears · 28/07/2019 23:48

I hire out a holiday home and cleaning is included in the price. I would refund in this instance.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 29/07/2019 02:11

If you didn’t damage the window then no, they should not keep the deposit. The little bits and bobs would take less than 1 minute to clean. Ridiculous.

heath48 · 29/07/2019 02:22

I hired out my holiday home in Cornwall.

Deposit was for any damage done and it didn’t mean a broken cup or trivial things.I never once withheld any deposit.

Surely the price of a clean is included in what you pay.

Think it is mean that your money hasn’t been returned.

Bugbabe1970 · 29/07/2019 02:39

It’s just a few bits
Ues I’d give your deposit
People can’t expect to rent things out and have them back perfect

catofdoom · 29/07/2019 02:48

I would have been ashamed to have left it like that to be honest.

pollymere · 29/07/2019 11:06

I always take dettol type all purpose cleaner and kitchen roll on self-catering holidays as I've been in cottages where you want to clean before you use them! It also makes last day tidying easier. It's odd as most places the cleaners come early and grumble that you don't need to clean as they do it anyway.

Nonnymum · 29/07/2019 11:12

It doesn't look that bad. Certainly not enough to retain a deposit. It doesn't look as though there is any damage. What state was it like when you moved in.
Surely people who rent out caravans have a cleaner in anyway before someone else rents it?

escapade1234 · 29/07/2019 11:16

I always take a packet of Dettol wipes with me on holiday, no matter where. It’s really not weird or uncommon.

OriginofSpecies · 29/07/2019 11:54

Couldn't you have bought more kitchen roll or a cloth?

If you run out of kitchen roll, surely you just buy some more?

And what if the nearest shop was half an hour away? The OP says she was there with her family - three young children. I don't think she's mentioned any other adults. So she's going to bundle three kids in the car to buy some kitchen roll in order to return to the caravan to clean. Give over. Even if there is a shop on site, that would still mean having to take the kids with her, assuming she was alone with them and the oldest not old enough to look after the other kids. And we all know how MN feels about that.

madeabooboo · 29/07/2019 12:36

I did take a packet.
I used an entire packet cleaning dust and cobwebs from the bedroom when we arrived

LatteLove · 29/07/2019 13:23

Ach sorry to hear that OP. Fuck them and their poxy caravan. There are plenty of other places you can go on holiday and not be conned out of your money.

TeamUnicorn · 29/07/2019 13:25

Oh that sucks OP. Don't let them destroy your memories though. Take your money elsewhere.
