Threw a bucket of water over the patio as need to put another line of clothes out.

After that I'm getting the frozon hot water bottle out the fridge and going to lie down.

Omg last night was horrible!. I had to strip everything off and sleep in the buff, I often get bitten by mosquitos round here but I took my chances.

Where were the Thunderstorms?! Where? Clearly no where near SE London. My plan of resting and getting up didn't work. The headache hit me full on and I ended up staying lying down in the dark.

@ItsAlrightAlright Yes it does get the sheets wet as the condensation builds up on the outside so I don't really use it under the covers before getting in bed. When I take it out the freezer I put it in a plastic bag and I put it on my belly or my my chest or back. Its so lovely! When its soo hot I don't care if it gets me wet - I'm dripping with sweat anyway, but I also use a thin towel to wrap it in. It stays cold for ages!

@ItsAlrightAlright I do a similar thing to Catherine but use a frozen compress gel pack lightly wrapped in an old thin hand towel. No soggy sheets and stays cool all night.

I’m currently at work and my fan has broken SadSad

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 24/07/2019 11:10

Just caught up. Those of you lucky enough to have storms where in the country are you?

SE London. I didn't hear one ripple of ThunderAngry So unfair it missed us. I surely never slept through it did I? I couldnt have. Hardly slept properly at allAngry

We had storms in the Midlands, I wish it was one of the storms that ends a hot spell and clears the air but it wasn't. The humidity was horrendous when I walked the dog at 6am.

spiderlight · 24/07/2019 11:38

We had an epic storm here last night - a good four hours of thunder, lightning and torrential rain - but it's just as hot and horrible here as it was yesterday.

Delatron · 24/07/2019 11:46

Storms in South Bucks

PantsyMcPantsface · 24/07/2019 11:54

We had an epic horror movie level thunderstorm in the midlands last night - but it didn’t really cool the air at all and only woke up everyone’s kids and filled social media with cool thunder photos.

It’s getting hot so damned early is half the thing - I did the school run at 8am and it was lovely... ran a few errands (ok so I went to Tesco to refill Magnum survival supplies) and got back at 9.15 and it was hotting up then.

Dog is now upside down on a cooling gel mat - I managed to buy the last one at our local petrol station (Esso/Morrisons have them in for £7 for the people with dogs suffering - it’s large size but not quite fully extended greyhound size). I’m considering nicking it overnight and sod the dog!

LoafOfSellotape · 24/07/2019 12:01

It's 22 here but a blazing hot 22 BUT a lovely wind and it's bearable and ds and I are in the garden . Hope it doesn't get any hotter. This time yesterday was utterly grim. Tesco was lovely and cool this morning I went for emergency supplies (MagnumsWink)

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 12:05

Cancelling the appointment was horrendous. Apparently it's not that hot for it to make me actually ill.

My fucking diabetes meds had to go into the bin is so fucking hot in flat and I'm at serious risk from heatstroke even though it's not supposedly hot enough because of the fucking condition SHE SEES ME FOR. I could hear other staff whining in the background about it being hot in the office and so unbearable so I blasted her.

I don't care.

In shop lost my rag with people whining it was now "freezing" and our lovely summer is over. It's 25c. It is not fucking freezing. Summer is not fucking over. It's CLOUDY that doesn't make it fucking freezing.

Got removed from shop for "being abusive"

Don't care.

Flat is now 24c which is something at least and I got ice for the mini cooler I have.

Yes I'm evil, bitter and twisted but more this I'm utterly fucking terrified.

Princessfaffalot · 24/07/2019 12:08

I just hoovered and mopped downstairs...I deserve a fucking medal. I’ve got to go to Morrison’s in a bit, dreading the bus. We live with my (not particularly elderly but old and grumpy) fil and he’s got himself in a mood because he’s lost his bank card so I’ve been turning the whole fucking house upside down trying to find it. I KNOW it isn’t here. He goes to the pub every day, 10:30-4pm and comes home absolutely pissed with his trousers around his ankles before he’s even in the door...it will have fallen out his back pocket somewhere but oh no, he insists it’s bloody here. It’s too fucking hot for moving furniture to look aimlessly! He’s buggered off with £20 now and I’m going to have to go to the bloody bank for him to order a new card. Sorry for the rant...it’s just too fucking hot to do anything other than camp out under a fan.

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 12:12

princess rant away! It's what the thread is for might just be me tho

OneOfTheGrundys · 24/07/2019 12:12

We are all indoors but about to head to the beach! To jump in the sea!
Tomorrow we have a day of box set slobbing and cold drink sipping.

It’s summer holidays and our non air con super sweaty block is being refurbished at school. I feel really, really sorry for the people doing it. Mind you, being stuck in my classroom with 30 teenagers is pretty awful too.

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 12:17

Fuck.
Suns come out actually felt temp rise before saw sun.
Now 26c and prediction for today is same as tomorrow.

one enjoy beach. Hope the sea is cool.

PotterHead1985 · 24/07/2019 12:27

@Becca19962014 I feel you. I cancelled an appointment on Monday for a pelvic ultrasound because of the following: it was at 2pm. I had to drink 2 litres of water but be finished by 1pm and then not drink more. And I had to be out in the hottest part of the day. I'm not physically able for that but of course I got bitched at and told I was being referred back to the gp!

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 12:34

potter it's rediculous isn't it? You cancelled and got grief for it. And they wonder why people don't bother cancelling. I know in our local hospital they've a list of "acceptable reasons" for cancelling. Not on the list? Discharged for failure to attend as they wont even record your cancellation as there isn't an option for "other".

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 12:35

So reality is people DO cancel but their reasons don't count so are recorded as not doing so. I've often wondered about it when sitting in a waiting area with those posters saying hundreds didn't cancel how many actually did but didn't meet the criteria!

Auldspinster · 24/07/2019 12:47

I'm in Edinburgh and we had a spectacular thunder storm last night, thunder vibrated the building. It's 23 here but that's pretty hot for here.

SheWoreRedVelvet · 24/07/2019 12:48

My experiment with using Odaban spray last night was life changing. My face and pits have remained bone dry all through the night and today. It's a miracle!

Going to apply it under my boobs tonight. It might be the best thing I have ever bought in my life.

flapjackfairy · 24/07/2019 13:40

@hellishot.
Thanks it is a routine one as my son has v severe epilepsy. He struggles massively with the humidity so we are quite glad to be in an air conditioned room now but the first 2 days were horrendous.
We both went to sleep fine but I am in the midlands and last nights storm was a shocker. Not much chance of sleeping through that though most of the kiddies on the ward did bless them !

flapjackfairy · 24/07/2019 13:51

I have discovered one advantage to the weather. If you forget to drink your cup of tea it is still hot when you finally remember 2 hours later.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 24/07/2019 13:57

Odaban spray? Sound great

Niagra falls doesn't produce as much moisture as I do when I sweat!

I cannot believe they are riding the Tour de France today. I feel sick even watching clips on the tele. It's so hot you can see the background shimmer.

OP posts:
CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 24/07/2019 14:14

Actually now I'm jealous as its pouring down on them.

Princessfaffalot · 24/07/2019 14:23

Where can I buy this magic odaban?! Amazon say delivery next weds...that’s a week too late you buggers! Xx

UrbanMage · 24/07/2019 14:37

It's so hot that I've shipped DD to nursery (air conned) and I held our and have just put the fan /cooler on downstairs. Tbh I've not worn anything other than my knickers since I got home and I can just about cope.

Was supposed to sort the house out today, but I've just watched box sets.

SheWoreRedVelvet · 24/07/2019 14:48

I bought mine off Boots website and paid for next day delivery. I sweat profusely on my face to the point that total strangers have been known to comment Sad
