Threw a bucket of water over the patio as need to put another line of clothes out.

After that I'm getting the frozon hot water bottle out the fridge and going to lie down.

Its bloody horrific here.
Difficult to even breathe properly, and I didn't sleep at all last night.
It was just too hot.
Yes, going up to 37 degrees here by Thursday, I think.

usernameee · 24/07/2019 00:25

So unbearably hot here and a massive thunderstorm! Going to be a long long night.

HelenaDove · 24/07/2019 01:22

@NeedIceInMyBrain I said this last summer but i really believe its going to take a workplace death or a patient dying of heat stroke and the ensuing lawsuit , for ideas to be bucked up!

PotterHead1985 · 24/07/2019 01:35

I want a thunderstorm. My weather app shows this:

It'd better rain and the wind is LIES. Not a baby's breath out there

I tried decamping to the living room but it's just as hot and the couch isn't as comfy as even my rickety old mattress (hurry up with my new one DHL!!)

We’ve just had one in North London. Very limited rain though.

NeedIceInMyBrain · 24/07/2019 01:48

I agree Helena. I actually thought this exact thing when I saw the poor bus driver yesterday, pouring with sweat and bright red, my thoughts went to the possibility that it could trigger a heart attack or something while he was driving the bus.

You know people in the US and other countries are shocked by us not having air con as standard. It’s very very worrying. I’ve felt sick all day because of this heat and been struggling to breathe, I dread to think how those with more serious conditions are coping.

PotterHead1985 · 24/07/2019 01:54

@NeedIceInMyBrain badly. Very badly. This heat/humidity/pollen count/uv index are all triggering parts of my different conditions at the SAME TIME Sad

NeedIceInMyBrain · 24/07/2019 02:11

@PotterHead1985 That’s awful 😥 I’m sorry to hear it’s causing so much distress. I wish it would just stop!! Now.

HelenaDove · 24/07/2019 02:20

In the film Rosemarys Baby there is a scene where John Cassevetes asks Mia Farrow if she wants the air conditioning on while shes in bed This fucking film was made in the late 1960s So the US had air con fitted as standard way back then
And the UK still hasnt caught up

Excellent point about the bus driver.

HelenaDove · 24/07/2019 02:22

the thunder here just made the building vibrate.

fortheloveofPete · 24/07/2019 02:49

Bloody hell....I've never seen a storm like this! It like something out of a movie. Lightening and loads of it but no thunder yet..

Starksforthewin · 24/07/2019 06:11

South east here. Terrific thunder, lightning and epic rain, but no bloody cooler. I just don't understand this weather!

boredboredboredboredbored · 24/07/2019 07:10

OMGEEEE here in the West Midlands too. 1.45am the dc and I were looking into the garden watching the lighting...poor cat was outside but legged it in!! The whole house lit up!

Skyejuly · 24/07/2019 07:23

We had a storm in suffolk but didnt really clear the air. :(

username678889 · 24/07/2019 07:35

The last place I worked at no air con it was horrendous last summer . I bought a thermometer and it was 30c in the office and the humidity was horrible. You just couldn't function , after lunch was the worse I literally did nothing as I had no energy. I requested we hire portable air con for the summer but was told we have fans . My manger bought a big pack of water but kept in her office for herself Confused. I now work in a air con office with free bottles of water it's bliss in this heat Grin

LoafOfSellotape · 24/07/2019 08:32

Really big storm here with rain, was SO loudShock

Soubriquet · 24/07/2019 08:48

I’m so glad I’m deaf!!

Never heard a thing last night GrinGrin

Struggled to bloody sleep though. Too hot and sweaty

FamilyOfAliens · 24/07/2019 09:06

Apparently there was a spectacular lighting display last night a couple of miles form here (Surrey).

No fecking rain though!

FamilyOfAliens · 24/07/2019 09:07

Lightening ffs

Though it may as well have been a lighting display Grin

Princessfaffalot · 24/07/2019 09:18

Well if we had thunder here I slept through it! Very hot night but we had two fans in our room so that helped, actually slept quite a bit. Really dreading tomorrow, I’m epileptic and heat triggers my seizures.

Becca19962014 · 24/07/2019 09:55

I can't read this thread as posts are all out of order.
Had a bad night.
Woke to a bit of lightening, literally. Then up to find no sun and far too excited. Obviously there is now. I'm hoping to get meds and then bed today. Not intending to go to appointment. Just can't cope with it on top of feeling so unwell.

Asta19 · 24/07/2019 10:35

Since yesterday I've been camped in my room with the portable air con going 24/7. I'm not sure how well it will cope with 37 outside though. When it's 30 it can only lower the temp to 21/22. Not that I'm complaining, it's a heck of a lot better than 30! But theoretically it should be able to go down to 17 (but it doesn't) so there is a limit to it's power. I'm keeping my curtains shut anyway to try and keep some heat out. I'm only leaving this room to pee, shower and get supplies! I'm on lock down till Friday.

My DD is loving it. She came in my room to speak to me yesterday (she's an adult, I'm not neglecting her!) and said she'd need a hoodie if she spent any time in here Shock whereas I am still warm. The air con just makes it bearable. I was supposed to meet a friend for a few drinks tonight but I'm going to cancel. It's just too hot and I won't enjoy it.

Asta19 · 24/07/2019 10:37

@Becca19962014
I think there's something wrong with MN. A lot of threads are all in the wrong order for me too.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 10:40

My DC haven’t finished school yet so that sucks, still have the school run to worry about!

I could barely sleep last night then was awoken around 3am by the huge thunderstorm Sad. Knackered, sweaty and miserable! Bring on Autumn.

mrswhiplington · 24/07/2019 10:48

I know it's bad here but my poor brother lives in Germany and he texted me last night and said it was going to hit 40c there today.Shock His partner is in hospital after having a brain tumour removed and is slowly recovering. I hope they've got good air con.

I stayed downstairs last night and didn't get much sleep. The dog was freaked out by the thunderstorm and the sweat was dripping off me. Just been to do my shopping in Iceland just so I could get near the freezers.
