Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?

We don't have a Morrison's nearby but will pass one on way home from a night away so will do our weekly shop there.
We'll just be getting stuff we need for the week, but then wondered if there is anything you all think is better from Morrison's than anywhere else?

How has Morrisons’ mighty pumpernickel bread escaped a mention? It is fabulous. I have to hide it so DH (who works from home) does not scoff the lot. Often sold out but their lovely bakery people will put one in the oven for you if you ask. MAKE MORE PUMPERNICKEL, MORRISONS.

Mozzas’ bakery bread generally wipes the floor with all other supermarket bread, including M&S.

Why have you told me about the festival gateau, why?

They are the only supermarket that sell dressed crab and their seafood is generally superior to other supermarkets. You can always get fresh Alaskan salmon on their fish counter.

Love the self service local eggs and good range of eggs, including duck.

However their fruit is only OK (M&S and Sainsbury’s reign supreme) and our branch is often thinly stocked on a Monday.

Also, their customer service team at their head office are incompetent and lazy. If anything goes wrong, the store manager is a much better bet.

Their cookies from the biscuit aisle which have chocolate in them. The meat. The fruit and veg. It's my main shop.

YesQueen · 25/06/2019 17:48

I went shopping Grin

Rum & raisin dark chocolate

BooseysMom · 25/06/2019 19:03

@ellaballoo.. thanks for the info about their utility knickers!! Grin

@Moominfan.. It's a great idea but can i get my DS to eat his as we go round?! No chance! I just take it home.

I remember something in the local rag once about someone finding a tube of glue in a loaf of bakery bread. They must have had a man in to fix a machine and he accidentally dropped it in! Put me right off buying their bread for ages

MrsMiggins37 · 25/06/2019 21:23

I was eyeballing the carrot cake earlier!

Iamthewombat · 25/06/2019 21:32

Grim news from the bakery counter. The festival gateau and apple turnovers are now made to order only!

(A festival gateau is now, of course, being made to order for me)

Isitmeorhimthistime · 26/06/2019 17:48

I've come back to say that the festival gateux is amazing and I'm not ashamed to say I had moat of it myself in one sitting 😊

Millie2013 · 26/06/2019 17:54

Halloumi curry in their takeaway range
Our local one has the Irish Cadbury chocolate, incl mint crisp
Cheese muffins

Millie2013 · 26/06/2019 17:55

I’d completely forgotten about the festival gateaux! Good to know you can still get them!

littlemissblue2000 · 26/06/2019 18:02

Their raspberry doughnuts!!!! Mmmm

PineappleSeahorse · 26/06/2019 19:36

Their dark chocolate mint creams in the bag are amazing. Their wine gums in the bag are lovely too.

I just tried their salt and black pepper frozen chicken wings and they were really good. I was skeptics las I'm wary of frozen meat but these were really nice. I cooked them for fifty minutes rather than the 40 though so that they went nice and crispy.

lotusbell · 27/06/2019 21:25

@ColdTattyWaitingForSummer, never seen gyoza in my local, is this fresh or frozen?! I neeeeeeeed!

ConfusedandContrary · 27/06/2019 21:26

They have frozen gyoza in the large Morrisons near me but not in the smaller store.

Peitho · 27/06/2019 21:29

Allioli in the yellow tub. You will honk of garlic for hours but it's worth it.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 27/06/2019 21:35

@lotusbell fresh. In the same section as the ready meals. They also have Japanese steamed buns and different types of tofu. It’s a new range in the last few months.

lotusbell · 27/06/2019 21:38

Thank you, not seen them in mine yet I dont think.

Accountant222 · 27/06/2019 22:28

Minted lamb steaks, lush

tappitytaptap · 27/06/2019 22:40

@nevernotstruggling yes! Their fig date and grain yoghurt is definitely a religious experience, was just about to recommend Grin

tappitytaptap · 27/06/2019 22:44

Ooh also their 'The Best' Naan chips in a black bag...delicious

Erythronium · 27/06/2019 22:45

Haven't been for a while, but when I did go their organic bread was absolutely delicious.

Has anybody mentioned their fresh pannetone at Christmas? So good.

ssd · 27/06/2019 22:50

That's it, my next shop is at Morris ons, there's a big one about 15 mins away

What's the prices like, I usually go to asda and lidl

Peitho · 27/06/2019 22:51

I like their brut Cava.

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2019 22:55

In their pick and mix rolls, they have these triangular dark (rye?) bread seeded rolls, which are delicious.

YesQueen · 27/06/2019 23:01

@ssd similar to Asda. I prefer it because I like the loyalty card too. It used to give me loads more stuff but when you get 5000 points, you get a £5 voucher. They often email me with say get 5000 points for a £50 shop which is effectively £5 back

To me price wise it's
Aldi/Lidl
Asda/morrisons
Tesco
Sainsbury's
Waitrose/booths
