Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?

We don't have a Morrison's nearby but will pass one on way home from a night away so will do our weekly shop there.
We'll just be getting stuff we need for the week, but then wondered if there is anything you all think is better from Morrison's than anywhere else?

@TanselleTooTall

Date and Walnut? I'm pretty sure they do.

Titsywoo · 24/06/2019 22:16

Definitely meat - if I'm making a stew I always go to Morrisons as they have oxtail and ox cheek, stuff other supermarkets don't have but makes the tenderest stews. I also like their fresh bread - soft and chewy!

happyhillock · 24/06/2019 22:20

Definetely meat, fish, deli counter, fresh bread and they have a grear selection of cheeses

Moominfan · 24/06/2019 22:26

Can't go past the hot deli counter without grabbing some spicy ribs.

Free piece of fruit for kids on entry

Meats can be taken in Tupperware to reduce plastic

I like the boys toddler clothes

Threesoups · 24/06/2019 22:38

Morrisons butcher is as close to an actual butcher as a supermarket can get. Kidneys, hearts, feet etc, it's all there. Either the beef or lamb roasts are often on offer and are genuinely nice.

Agree with pps about the salty butter and longley products. Also lots of good east end (the brand - international type food, spices and pulses etc) products, big sacks of rice and so on.

YesQueen · 24/06/2019 23:17

@QuestionableMouse the salt and pepper one is like crack. And usually sold out. And I'm going to morrisons for my weekly shop tomorrow Blush
It's amazing with butter and dunked in corned beef hash

YesQueen · 24/06/2019 23:18

Although I forgot to add don't ever try the salt and pepper Pringles unless you're trying to gain a few stone. Like the addictive nature of salt and pepper bread alongside the addictive nature of Pringles. BAD

QuestionableMouse · 24/06/2019 23:29

I know. I confine myself to a small stick one a week because I can eat it all in one sitting.

BooseysMom · 25/06/2019 06:45

@ellaballoo
Oh ... and they have fab knickers . I think I like them as they attempt to hold my stomach in after the battered halloumi

Ha ha! Which knickers do you recommend? I'm going there tomorrow and do need some new ones.

I can't believe no one has mentioned lettuce! I mean, come on folks! Seriously though Morrison's The Best range is on a par with Waitrose and their Sweet Gem lettuce is way better..it's really crisp and tasty and alot cheaper than Waitrose's

Free piece of fruit for kids on entry

I've noticed Waitrose do this too. It's a brilliant idea. Who started it i wonder?

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/06/2019 06:45

Something for the 'cheap cuts from the Morrisons butcher counter' fans to look out for. I got some pork cheeks very cheaply.

I did them in the slow cooker, one lot in a pulled pork type thing and the other as a Spanish style stew with chorizo, tomatoes, beans, onions, garlic, wine and paprika. Both really delicious.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/06/2019 06:46

Tesco also do free fruit and I thought it was them who started it?

Bananarama12 · 25/06/2019 06:50

Full fat cottage cheese. Everywhere else all low fat.

nomushrooms · 25/06/2019 06:54

Banana loaf and flavoured hummus

ellaballoo · 25/06/2019 06:55

When you see the knickers , you’ll know .
Nothing attractive about them -100% utility knickers , but when I see they are clean and in my drawer it makes me happy and they are first choice !
My absolute faves weren’t in this week , my new ones are 96%polymide , 4% elastine , seam free and cost -£2.50 .

Embracethechaos · 25/06/2019 07:13

Bakery section

KnittingForMittens · 25/06/2019 07:24

Jeggings! I absolutely love them. Their melt in the middle fish cakes are to die for as well (in the fresh section, they're called Scottish salmon, smoked cod and haddock fillet).

stucknoue · 25/06/2019 07:30

Their meat is definitely better, especially the butcher counter and they have great fish (and a trained fishmonger) good instore bakery too. Alas they have got rid mostly of the deli here in favour of custom pizzas

slippermaiden · 25/06/2019 07:32

6 pack of standard hot cross buns! They are very popular in our house 😘

Bodyonme · 25/06/2019 08:00

I rate Morrisons above all the other supermarkets in my area, we have two to choose from and both are generally well stocked and maintained. I get a weekly delivery now but on the odd occasion we go into store my kids, like a pp's, love to visit the fish counter to see what is there. Last week they had a sign up advertising that they had something like 38 different varieties available which is pretty impressive!

Things they do better than anywhere else:
Salt and pepper rolls - amazing as burger buns
Bavette steaks - 4 for £7, really tasty, thick cut and very rarely any gristle
Longley Farm anything but especially the cottage cheese
Beetroot, mint and yoghurt dip - could eat a full pot easily
Their houmuses (houmi?) are great, a good range of flavours too

I've never tried the festival gateau, the green icing puts me off but I'm going to try it now after the good reviews on here!

Plsnomorepeppapig · 25/06/2019 08:03

Tiger bread, fresh cream desserts and their own brand salt and vinegar crisps 😋

DottieLottie1 · 25/06/2019 09:04

Donuts 😋

BillGiggeloe · 25/06/2019 09:17

Their cheese english muffins, although they could quite easily lead to an addiction.

Moominfan · 25/06/2019 15:17

Booseysmum it's great. My toddler expects fruit every super market now though. Keeps him quiet for a while.

Jalapeño cheese bagels 👌🏾

MotherWol · 25/06/2019 15:26

My local Morrisons is dreadful: it's right opposite a really busy fruit & veg market, so I can sort of understand that the greengrocers bit wouldn't be their best-performing area, but it's so frustrating to be faced with half-empty shelves and only come home with half the things you went out for. On the other hand, the one close to my parents is like a completely different company - well stocked, clean, great fish counter, generally helpful staff. They also stock Stapleton's Lemon Curd Greek yogurt, which is the food of the gods, so for that they're forgiven.

Borntobeamum · 25/06/2019 15:47

Most of these messages have made my heart smile. My dad and 'Uncle Ken' were pals and grew up together.
He was a fantastic man who cared about his staff.
