Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?

We don't have a Morrison's nearby but will pass one on way home from a night away so will do our weekly shop there.
We'll just be getting stuff we need for the week, but then wondered if there is anything you all think is better from Morrison's than anywhere else?

Sausage rolls. 4 in a bag. Dh and ds's adore them.

Pixel99 · 23/06/2019 21:15

ExH always loved their thick pizzas. (I prefer a thin base)

Davespecifico · 23/06/2019 21:24

Outdoor bred pork chops are seriously good and fat. ASDA have some similar.
The salt crystal butter, tho other supermarkets have similar.
The very cheap good quality juices.
It’s the only supermarket with a real fish counter that actually has fresh and different things.
Rose veal liver.
Sometimes, rack of lamb can be relatively cheap.
Sourdough is nicer than M and S (so is ASDA’s).

Davespecifico · 23/06/2019 21:27

Morrisons’s cafe, if you can put up with actually sitting there in that environment, has the best quality cold food of any of them. The sandwich trays, cakes, fresh juice and so on all look lovely and often come from their The Best range. Cooked food is a different story, though some dishes are ok.

Davespecifico · 23/06/2019 21:30

Some 50cl wines which helps cut down alcohol consumption. The Baron de Ley Rioja is nice. I think it’s great that Morrison’s has these sizes and they should lead the way and do more.

Ummm, basically everything in Morrison's is better than Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco etc. Can't comment on Waitrose as we don't have one in my town.
good delivery service too. We never get substitutions.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 23/06/2019 21:51

Their florentines are amazing, although I eat a whole box in one go.

Rosemary and sea salt crackers.

Their toilet roll is good too! I buy the shea butter one, can usually get 18 rolls for £6.

Their baked beans, about 35p a can, they've converted me from Heinz.

The olives are delicious too, either of the deli bit or the smallish jars of 'the best' ones.

Their tomato ketchup and brown sauce is good as is their mayo.

Echoing PP the apple and elderflower high juice is good.

ohhelpohnoitsa · 23/06/2019 22:01

Mince pies from the bakery post september

splishsplashsploshsplishsplash · 23/06/2019 22:02

The salt and pepper crusty bread!! There's nothing like it! It is amazing!

WhoWants2Know · 23/06/2019 22:07

Their cheese topped baguettes are cheesier than all the other shops and their cottage cheese is much nicer.

Katinski · 23/06/2019 22:17

Tell you an oddity tho...
I go there once a week and my friends and I go into the cafe. I order a pot of tea. Really nice.
But,you know what?
They said that the tea they use is Yorkshire Teabags in their pots.Grin

Hadenoughofitall441 · 23/06/2019 22:23

They have the babypasta which my kids absolutley love.
Also they have more choice of meats imo 😊

Itellpeopletogoogleit · 23/06/2019 22:25

Hopefully yours will be fully stocked as ours always looks like it's closing down!

wonkylegs · 23/06/2019 22:34

Wonky avocados you need to buy them a week before you want them but they are perfect then - best avocados I've bought in U.K. for years. Generally good for fruit & veg.

Their steak & ale pie from the fridge cabinets .... my boys are steak pie addicts and think this one is the best we've ever bought

Stilton from the cheese counter is pretty good and ours has an amazing fish counter - my kids always go to at least say hello to the fish and the octopuses, they loved the spider crab they had the other week

Their doughnuts are pretty good, as are their beetroot and rosemary rolls (loose ones)

tastylancs · 23/06/2019 22:49

Pitta bread - stone baked.
Pickled onion space raiders. No one else stocks them!

Leggyfrog · 23/06/2019 22:54

Fantastic for world foods.

As pp have said they are I think the only supermarket to still have their own farms and they have proper butchers in store. I went recently for the first time in a long time and was impressed.

I like their approach to fruit a veg - no plastic round their cucumbers.

AnthonyCrowley · 23/06/2019 23:14

They also sell Ringo crisps which are hard to source elsewhere.

DerelictWreck · 23/06/2019 23:29

Same! We always joke it's what a distopian / apocalypse supermarket will look like! Sometimes they run out of really basic things, like bacon, or chopped tomatoes, or bananas for weeks. Literally. It's weird

ecuse · 23/06/2019 23:49

Can't believe nobody else has mentioned their truly awesome range of frozen veg. I am constrained by freezer space otherwise I'd buy all if it but particular favourites are cubed sweet potato and butternut squash (both can be roasted direct from the freezer); bags of micro diced carrot/onion/celery - which is Bolognese base without the fiddly chopping; sliced leeks; sliced red onions... I could go on.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/06/2019 06:20

Just thought of another one, but it might not be nationwide because they have a big 'local' sign on them, but in the Morrisons round here (West Yorkshire) do 'pick your own' free range eggs, and you can reuse your old egg boxes and buy as few or as many as you like, as they're priced individually.

So if you're one of those weirdos people who doesn't really use eggs so resent having to buy them six at a time, you can literally just buy one or two if you want to.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/06/2019 06:21

ecuse thanks for the reminder, they also do grilled Mediterranean veg selection in that range.

boxlikeamarchhare · 24/06/2019 06:42

Fresh fish counter and butchers counter. Fruit and veg is always good. Yes to the best stuff being as good as posher supermarkets.

I don’t like their bread, covered in and tastes of plastic to me.

I always check the ingredients on their own stuff, I buy Rachel’s yoghurt generally but bought Morrison’s own Greek yoghurt with honey once when they had run out. It had a really odd texture - checked the ingredients and it contained rice starch and potato starch. Grim, never again!

Some of the best desserts in the freezer are lovely too. Raspberry and dark chocolate cheesecake is amazing and only about £3 or £4. I always have one in my freezer.

Garlic and rosemary ladder bread (in the fresh pasta counter) is nice.
I don’t like their pizzas, the base is too thick for me.

margaritasbythesea · 24/06/2019 07:00

Meat. Plants. They do a wholewheat fresh pasta which I love.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/06/2019 07:05

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but yesterday we popped to Morrison's and they have cucumbers not wrapped in cellophane- literally the only place I've managed to find them, including market and nursery shop etc. They do seem to be pioneering some environmental changes with their paper bags for veg and deli stuff.

Tessalectus · 24/06/2019 07:20

I cook everything from scratch and Morrison's seems to be the only place around here that I can buy a decent range of Middle Eastern and East Asian ingredients from - especially herbs and spices, but also some dried fruit and proper seaweed flakes I cannot seem to find elsewhere.
