Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?

We don't have a Morrison's nearby but will pass one on way home from a night away so will do our weekly shop there.
We'll just be getting stuff we need for the week, but then wondered if there is anything you all think is better from Morrison's than anywhere else?

OP posts:

i haven't been for years but my friend told me the counter made him a custom vegetable pizza for £2.50 and it was better than pizzas from Domino's and any of the takeaways apparently.

autumnleaves15 · 22/06/2019 16:24

I second the meat counter. I love their fillet steak, burgers and pork chops.

daphine2004 · 22/06/2019 16:41

I read the OP has now done her shopping, but I noticed that a few things hadn’t been mentioned! 😱

I also agree about the salt and pepper cob. Delicious!

Their cherry bakewells (pack of 4) from the bakery.

I love their beetroot with sweet juniper and pepper beetroot, and also the mini or baby cucumbers. Must also add that their reduced fat, the best coleslaw is amazing and you’d nee know it was low fat!

greathat · 22/06/2019 16:48

I gave to buy my dad lemon puffs from there. There's no Morrison's near where they live. Also go there for their apple and elderflower cordial

BeyondMyWits · 22/06/2019 16:57

jammy doughnuts... always...

when I was a parent helper in school it used to be the "best day ever " when the kids got to walk up the road to Morrisons, make a pizza to take home for tea and USE THE DOUGHNUT FILLER - you have never seen kids so happy as kids who get to use a doughnut filler.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/06/2019 17:06

Their own brand pitta breads are really nice, especially the garlic and coriander ones and only 50p a pack.

twointhemorning · 22/06/2019 17:11

The festival gateau - a sponge base with a thick layer of custard, topped with a thick layer of cream covered in a green marzipan dome. Yum.

Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?
Charley50 · 22/06/2019 17:17

Love their pitta bread, the salt and pepper bread, finest sausages, and their own brand peanut butter with no palm oil.

dementedma · 22/06/2019 17:18

I like Morrisons. Take your own containers for meat and fish

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/06/2019 17:57

Tiger Bread

All their bread is really good

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/06/2019 18:02

Steak. You can take your own containers as well.

olivo · 22/06/2019 18:53

Dexter Dogs Blush

and the caramelised onion and cheese mini garlic breads Grin

BasiliskStare · 23/06/2019 18:31

Did not Morrisons buy out Safeway. Waitrose don't have lots of shops in the north but I suspect Morrisons can do a good job.

DerelictWreck · 23/06/2019 18:51

The meat is only good if it's off the counter. The prepacked stuff is Hmmnever known so much water in chicken breass!

TanselleTooTall · 23/06/2019 18:56

Their thick cut sirloin steak. Usually 450g for £8. We buy for very special treats once in a blue moon and they are always top notch.

TanselleTooTall · 23/06/2019 19:00

You know what..Morrison's own version Quavers. Really lovely flavour, superior to real Quavers and have a gorgeous texture, really melt in the mouth and light.
I first bought for my teens but had one packet and had two more in quick succession Blush. Been a staple since.

Ronsters · 23/06/2019 19:01

The meat in Morrison's isn't bad. This sounds awful but I believe they have their own abattoirs (and allowed cctv before this became law). They do unusual, or fashioned cuts of meat.

Fruit, good quality and good price.
Own brand stuff is hit and miss.

Plants, not the most exciting varieties but cheap and in good condition. I got a large erysium for £3, absolute bargain. Homeware and electricals can be good too.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/06/2019 19:08

What's awful about Morrisons having their own abbatoirs? Confused

Every single piece of meat sold has been through somebody's abbatoir.

MrsDilligaf · 23/06/2019 19:59

It's the only place I can find gravy salt! When I was growing up my mum always used to use Burdalls Gravy Salt, but when they stopped making it we found Comptons Gravy Salt. Wouldn't dream of putting Bisto on a Sunday Roast so I have to keep a supply in.

Also Scotch Pies, but you have to be quick as they fly off the shelves.

roaringwater · 23/06/2019 20:51

Their own brand Twix are amazing - much nicer than real Twix. The biscuit is crisper and the caramel is almost salted. They're called BicMix (60p for 4, although admittedly a bit smaller than real ones).

Katinski · 23/06/2019 20:56

Barbara I think the poster is actually praising Morries for having their own abattoirs and allowing transparency?

Just sayin'.....

Katinski · 23/06/2019 21:01

I think that Wm.Morrison died not too many years ago. I remember hearing on the radio that he'd visit branches incognito to check out the produce and ask customers what they thought about the store. What a Star

Kwackerly · 23/06/2019 21:06

Meat, their meat is excellent. Also their own pitta and naan bread -espec spicy naan -are amazing! Also gherkins. Perfectly crunchy and not too vinegary and only 99p for huge jar. Apple kitchen spray. I love Morrisons and go to stock up on these things!

AnthonyCrowley · 23/06/2019 21:11

Their bread, especially the salt and pepper bread.
The pizzas from the pizza counter
Meat
Fish

MaybeitsMaybelline · 23/06/2019 21:12

A huge selection of wonderful flatbreads from local asian bakers, lots of different chapattis, naan, roti a million times better of more authentic than a Sharwoods!

fry’s peppermint cream bars (can only find them in Morrisons and B&M)

Also agree about the plants and shrubs, and Morrisons are the only ones that stay alive in my garden.
