Morrison's - what is better from there than anywhere else?

We don't have a Morrison's nearby but will pass one on way home from a night away so will do our weekly shop there.
We'll just be getting stuff we need for the week, but then wondered if there is anything you all think is better from Morrison's than anywhere else?

I really miss Morrison's, none nearby, and their excellent plants. Great quality at good price.

lotusbell · 24/06/2019 07:32

I really like the meat and fish, particularly the fact you can buy according to weight, so if I only need a small amount I can usually find it.

IntoValhalla · 24/06/2019 07:32

Fruit scones from their bakery are amazing!
The square ones.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/06/2019 07:33

Fish counter.
£5 for a bag of fresh muscles.

WarIsPeace · 24/06/2019 07:42

Disagree on the doughnuts, I think Sainsburys ones are much better.
But overall it's my main supermarket it's across the road from my work and the sliced meats, bakery and greengrocer bits are all good. The honey and sunflower seed rolls are delicious.
I find it's often more ££ for toiletries etc. The clothes are OK but adult stuff very hit and miss (I've had a couple of very decent work tops for a fiver each that wash well but a lot is quite aimed at the mature lady imho)

twilightcafe · 24/06/2019 07:45

Cardamom and honey granola.
Red meat

Isitmeorhimthistime · 24/06/2019 15:55

you lot owe me about £20 between you..just walked into a Morrisons and bought the festival gateux, own brand crisps, pasties and children's clothes Blush. Basically trusting what you said but it all looks so good.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 24/06/2019 16:14

The only weird thing about Morrisons (mine at least) is their habit of pricing loose fruit and veg by individual, set price.

e.g. every single banana is 15p, each onion is 9p etc.

It's very disconcerting.

The salad bar and deli selection

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/06/2019 16:19

Japanese stuff like gyoza. Pick your own eggs. A decent world food section. I also like the salad bar for grabbing lunch on the go (you can get it as part of the meal deal - £3.50 with drink and snack).

Ijustwanttoretire · 24/06/2019 16:28

The salad bar - we go out of our way occasionally just to go there an buy enough to last us a few days... Sainsbury's used to do it but stopped, more fool them, lost our custom...

pontiouspilates · 24/06/2019 16:31

My DD and I are addicted to the jalepeno foccacia. It sells out quickly and is competly delicious!

BertrandRussell · 24/06/2019 16:33

I remember when Morrison’s was a northern thing. My fil was friends with the original Mr Morrison.

The weird thing about all the Morrison’s I have ever used regularly is that they seem to have a dodgy distribution chain- sometimes you’ll go in and there are random empty sections on shelves...

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2019 16:33

I adore the salad bar, always have to cover the top of my selection with bacon bits, then struggle to get the lid closedGrin

BertrandRussell · 24/06/2019 16:35

The second Mr Morrison, not the original.

PlaidMaid · 24/06/2019 17:33

Amazed by this thread. I’ve just been and thought it was a rubbish shopping experience, our local store is really going downhill. Empty shelves, horrible lighting and decor, no toilet paper in the ladies loos whatsoever (and no staff to report this to).

That said, the fish counter is usually very good, the frozen Best cheesecakes are good, the oven counter has decent sausage rolls and pies, and the egg mayo baguettes in the fresh sandwich section are nice.

Last summer they had sugar waffles and pancakes in the bakery section which were immense. Sadly not seen them this year though Sad

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 24/06/2019 17:58

Agree with PlaidMaid. I used to love it but ours has really gone downhill.

Empty shelves as standard (fridges and dried goods), constantly leaking/ out of order fridges and freezers and junk food promotions everywhere to fill the gaps. It never used to be this way.

Our store feels grubby and unkempt and badly in need of a makeover. All the attractive touches they added 5+ years ago have been removed (salad misters and so on!).

For 18months the floors were constantly slippery from nasty grey water leaking from the chillers and being tracked everywhere. No mats or yellow signs put down. I eventually complained to HQ. I don't consider myself fussy but I'd reached my limit of slipping and sliding and it felt unhygienic and dangerous. Surprisingly things improved for a while after that!

Too much of the shopfloor is given over to clothes (kids and now womenswear) which everybody ignores until sale time. Tbh there isn't even much interest then. I like the idea but it's not really working in our store.

I shop there out of convenience and want to like it as they do a lot of things well. Plants (when they remember to water them), wonky veg, fishmonger and butcher, some of the deli lines. Quite a lot of the more innovative lines have disappeared from our store which is a shame and have been replaced by stodge. It's useless shopping there in the evenings or weekends (after 10am) as the stock is so hit and miss and doesn't get replenished until the next overnight delivery. Stock is delivered in increasingly small amounts.

Interesting to hear about the bakery and salad bar. I've never been inclined to use ours due to the reasons outlined above Blush

I've randomly visited a couple of other stores around the country and they were so much nicer.

Nat6999 · 24/06/2019 18:10

I love Morrison's, always used to shop at Sainsburys but since their customer service standards dropped I swapped to Morrison's. Their meat is unbeatable, I love their fillet steak tails, they melt in your mouth.

Pizzachicken · 24/06/2019 19:59

They do an amazing mushroom pate type thing. It doesn't sound good but it is divine. Mark my words.

thenightsky · 24/06/2019 20:02

Nothing sticks to Morrisons non-stick greaseproof paper. It's a million times better than Tesco s.

Loveislandaddict · 24/06/2019 20:04

Bread and cakes

TanselleTooTall · 24/06/2019 22:02

Oh yes. I remember they do (or did..?) a gorgeous date and something cob/loaf from the bakery.

I'd bought it and fancied having it sliced amd buttered for snack when I got home feom shopping. What actually happened was I tore a bit off after getting back into the car and then promptly finished off the whole lot chunk by chunk over the next hour. It was so tasty.

Do they still stock it?

QuestionableMouse · 24/06/2019 22:08

@TigerBreadAddict I see your tiger bread and raise you salt and pepper bread.
