What scent did your mum wear?

Mine wore l'Air du Temps when I was little. The scent of it takes me straight back to childhood.

I must ask the DC if there's any particular perfume that I wore that they associate with me.

OP posts:

Chanel No 5
Chanel Coco
Chloe
Tweed

Karl Lagerfeld Sun, Moon & Stars. Takes me right back to my childhood.

It’s discontinued now but I recently bought a half used bottle off eBay to give to dm for her big birthday that’s coming up for pure nostalgic reasons on my part.

I always remember getting into my dad’s car, in the front seat and the seatbelt smelling of her perfume.

I wear the not very classy Britney Spears Curious. It’s my favourite everyday perfume and probably what my girls will remember when they’re grown!

I still wear Youth Dew. In fact I am wearing it now. Believe it or not I get loads of compliments.

TheCanterburyWhales · 20/06/2019 13:23

Mum:
Caleche was her signature but she also had Emeraude.
Gran had Je Reviens, Ma Griffe, L'Aimant, Heaven Sent, Apple Blossom.

I have vintage bottles of all of them and it's like being transported back in time when I open them. (I have a huge perfume memory box)

VoluptuaSneezelips · 20/06/2019 13:26

As well as the Anais Anias i mentioned in earlier post my mum had some talc. Was in a navy tub with silver scroll on it, had the old fashioned huge soft snuggly dusting pad. For life of me can't recall what scent it was (want to say Youth Dew). I get a whiff of it from time to time when im out and about which always makes me think of her telling me off for messing with it.

Bunnylady53 · 20/06/2019 13:29

Coty L’Aimant as it was a creme & my Mum was sensitive to sprays. I also remember her using Aqua Manda talc which was meant for men. I still love Coty L’Aimant & use it myself

Rive Gauche by YSL (I think?). She still has it and wears it sometimes.

MsRinky · 20/06/2019 14:12

Justincase87 I reckon that was YSL Opium. The bottle in the 70s and 80s looked like this www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/VintageTreasuresFound/12110068/yves_saint_laurent_opium_empty_factice_perfume_edt_display_bottle/vintage/collectibles/other

My Mum wore Ma Griffe, and Opium, but her favourite was Misty Whore, which is how my Donegal Dad pronounced Miss Dior.

DXBMermaid · 20/06/2019 14:22

First by van Cleef and Arpels.
I bought a bottle and will sometimes wear it. She doesn't wear it anymore. Sad

My MIL wears Amarige by Givenchy.

starfleet · 20/06/2019 14:26

My DM wore YSL Paris for years. She mainly wears Jo Malone Red Roses or Paul Smith Rose now.

I love Rive Gauche - it is my every day perfume. I have others but this is the one I keep coming back to - have worn it for about 25 years.

TSSDNCOP · 20/06/2019 14:49

Je Reviens when I was very small, then Tweed Envy then Beautiful by Estee lauder

gerbilfun · 20/06/2019 14:53

Youth dew by Estée Lauder. Every time I smell it I'm right back to being a kid again.

Runningbackwards · 20/06/2019 14:56

Blue Grass

Usuallyinthemiddle · 20/06/2019 14:56

Lou Lou or Poison 🤧😷

Runningbackwards · 20/06/2019 14:58

Dad was a comforting small of Old Spice and tobacco.

CountFosco · 20/06/2019 15:04

Cabochard...not sure if anyone remembers that. She died over 25 years ago and I still have a full bottle of the stuff and it still smells fine!

It's a wonderful perfume.

Mum wore Tweed. I don't know what my grandmother's wore but SJP Lovely reminds me of one of them and Paris 1948 reminds me of the other (but I'm not sure if that's because it's like a perfume she wore or if it's the smell of hay).

My poor DC won't have a particular perfume they associate with me poor things, I never wear the same thing two days in a row.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 20/06/2019 15:09

My mother never wore perfume, but she did use M&S peach body lotion. I also have car sickness memories every time I smell something similar.
MIL wore Avon, it gave her that musty old lady scent.
My dad had his own unique smell of outdoors, grass, fresh sweat and B&Hs

scaryteacher · 20/06/2019 15:17

Mine wears whatever she can nick from me, or what I buy her. She has had Amarige, Paris, and AnaisAnais of mine, and I buy her Dioressence when feeling flush. She moved Balenciaga Le Dix, Fendi, and various older Lancome ones as well. She eyes up my Chanel 19 each time she comes to stay, but has been told to poke off.

haverhill · 20/06/2019 15:21

Tweed, Charlie or something from Avon in the 70s.
Clinique Wrappings and Anais Anais in the 80s
She now wears Paris.

Babdoc · 20/06/2019 15:33

SrSteveOskowski, gosh, what a horrid coincidence. My sincere commiserations if you had a mother as shit as mine.
I wonder if there was something about Youth Dew that appealed to abusive narcissists? Maybe the name - my vile mother was always bragging that she looked “wonderful for my age”, despite being a sagging harridan with coarse dyed hair! And I suppose the cloying stink of that perfume meant she forcibly scent marked everything in her surrounding territory as hers.
She died over 20 years ago and is unlamented - but I still can’t bear that bloody perfume!

AdaColeman · 20/06/2019 16:04

My mother wore Mitsouko as her everyday perfume, but she also had treasured bottles of Un Air Embaumé (Rigaud) and Nuit de Noël (Caron) for special occasions. If I was lucky, I got a little dab too! Smile
My Father used Jicky (Guerlain) or later in life, Acqua di Parma.

LaMarschallin · 20/06/2019 16:55

but her favourite was Misty Whore, which is how my Donegal Dad pronounced Miss Dior.

I'll never think of it as anything else again Smile!

flamingnoravera · 20/06/2019 17:30

Aqua Manda- smelled like chocolate oranges.

SrSteveOskowski · 20/06/2019 17:32

@Babdoc, I haven't spoken to mine in about 5 years now, but unfortunately had to see her at my uncle's funeral recently. She's still a narcissist and still has the hideous orange foundation and bleached yellow hair, yet still thinks she looks amazing.
