What scent did your mum wear?

Mine wore l'Air du Temps when I was little. The scent of it takes me straight back to childhood.

I must ask the DC if there's any particular perfume that I wore that they associate with me.

Superkings and white musk. Miss her.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 20/06/2019 09:16

Chanel No 19.

Unusual, so fitting.

BlueMerchant · 20/06/2019 09:16

Avon Far Away and also Estee Lauder Knowing reminds me of my DGM. Dior Dune also reminds me of her as I remember her taking me shopping and buying me the limited edition scented talc as a treatSmile.
My DM wears a variety of perfumes now but as a child I remember her wearing Youth dew and the smell of the original Charlie ( blue) takes me back to my early 80's childhood.

Fags, gin and Je Reviens by WorthSmile

Substitute Chanel No5 and that's my mother when I was in my late teens/early 20s.
Before that, it was Tweed and afterwards she had a bit of a flirtation with Arpège (the only one of those I'd consider wearing).

She had very strong opinions on scent and put me off Youth Dew ("Common and gives me a headache") and Blue Grass ("Smells like old clothes and body odour"). Yikes! Those two never stood a chance with me and were probably actually fine.

My father wore Old Spice. Still smells comforting to me.

I try various different ones but my daughters associate Dioressence and Allure with me, so I make a point of wearing one of those when I see them.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/06/2019 09:20

l'Air du Temps

Mine also wore that! I actually stopped a random woman recently to ask what she was wearing and it turned out to be it!

But for posh, it was, and still is, Chanel no5.

YorkshireGoldFanClub · 20/06/2019 09:21

White Musk - I love it, it reminds me of cuddles if I was upset/ tired as a child

Galvantula · 20/06/2019 09:25

Rive Gauche.

My kids will be clueless for this question, unless they count Dove deodorant . Grin

Ocies · 20/06/2019 09:26

My mum wore Chanel No.19 or Estee Lauder 'White Linen'.

Honeyplop · 20/06/2019 09:47

Cerruti 1881 which is what I also now wear too.

Godgivemestrengh · 20/06/2019 10:01

My mum wore a perfume called fatal I don't know who it's by and I can't find it anywhere I would live to be able to buy it for her

PenguindreamsofDraco · 20/06/2019 10:02

Anais Anais.

Frownette · 20/06/2019 10:04

Don't think she has ever had a signature scent. We bought her kenzo flowers for Xmas which she liked.

LaMarschallin · 20/06/2019 10:05

It can be a problem if others associate a smell with someone else.
For example, I love Chanel No19. But ex-husband's mother wore it. Did not wish to open that Oedipal can of worms Smile

Trouble is, I associate it with her now. She was a lovely person - ex-husband's parents were one of the nicest things about him - but I'd feel odd wearing it and, of course, to my daughters I'd smell like Grandma.

llangennith · 20/06/2019 10:09

My mum wore a strange scent called Tweed. I was never sure if I liked it or not.

borntobequiet · 20/06/2019 10:15

My mother wore Tweed (which didn’t suit her) and L’Aimant, which did. DD gets a very strong memory of her DGM if she smells L’Aimant. I was curious about its origins and found Francois Coty’s Wiki Entry very interesting.

My Mum liked Blue Grass when I was little and then L'Air du Temps which I also liked and used to wear. I stopped wearing it when my DH said he didn't like it.

My Dad wore Old Spice and my MIL liked Anais Anais (used to buy it for her for pressies).

My own favourite is Chanel Cristalle but a lot of old favourites have popped up on this thread like Rive Gauche which I also used to wear.

Disclaimer, I am old enough to be most of your DMs Smile

ChicCroissant · 20/06/2019 10:30

Someone used to buy my mum Blue Grass so she did wear that but not often. Also Joy by Jean Patou, I remember a tiny bottle (probably proper perfume) that was also a gift.

hellsbellsmelons · 20/06/2019 10:33

Rive Gauche
Channel No. 5
I can't stand either of them.

Amber0685 · 20/06/2019 10:37

Samsara Guerlain

EileenBilton · 20/06/2019 10:41

Le Jardin by Max Factor

Kintan · 20/06/2019 10:45

My mum wore YSL Rive Gauche, Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass, Gloria Vanderbilt (bottle had a swan on it), Lancome Miracle, and Chanel Allure.

RottnestFerry · 20/06/2019 10:52

Horrid smell, really strong and reminds me of feeling sick on car journeys

Lilly of the Valley does that to me.

caperplips · 20/06/2019 10:52

Youth Dew. I now work with someone who wears it occasionally and it always reminds me of my mother.

My grandmother wore 4711 or some yardley lavender one.

ForeignBodies · 20/06/2019 10:53

She wore either Chanel 19 or Rive Gauche for years, but now wears Chanel Allure.
