How many days off sick have you had this year?

Ive had 3 and I've been told that's high. I had 2 days (back to back) back in Feb due to suspected mild pnumonia. I worked from home for a week before but 2 days I could barely move let alone work.
I've had one more day recently due to a cold. I was coughing up a lot of gung and it triggered my gag reflex and I was sick so they send me home.

I work for a very small company so I think only one other person had had a sick day but so far I've had the most. It's definitely more noticeable in a small team too so I don't want to be seen as a piss taker.

So, is that a lot in the space of 6 months? How many have you had?

4 days - two occasions. I'm nhs but wasn't taking the piss. Severe concussion that consultant advised minimum of 2 week off but only took two days. Second occasion I'd been off over Easter and was full of cold but ended up with laryngitis but having been off work on leave I felt guilty and went in anyway but had no voice and looked dreadful. Boss sent me home and told me to take at least the next day off then I saw my gp and discovered my bad cough was actually a prolonged asthma attack requiring strong steroids so had a second day off then the weekend to recover.

Luckily my work is amazingly flexible but similarly so am I re hours and go above and beyond so I guess it depends on dynamics.

None I had zero last year too. I only take time off if I have a sickness bug, coughs and colds I just go in. So do most of my team. I have had 3 days parental leave for chicken pox though this year.

wizzler · 11/06/2019 19:25

1 day in 10 yrs

Fluffy40 · 11/06/2019 19:26

4 days, d and v. Followed by a cold

sarahlux · 11/06/2019 19:27

In four years I have had one sick day. And that was when my mum died.

MissPhonic · 11/06/2019 19:27

4 days since August last year. I work for the NHS so am around unwell people all day. Also work anything from 55-72 hours a week every week with shift work. Any bug you pick up hits harder because you just don't get any time to let your body recover.

luckygreeneyes · 11/06/2019 19:28

1 for a migraine

SaltySeaBird · 11/06/2019 19:28

None. I haven’t had a day off sick in over 10 years but I think that I often push through when I shouldn’t and collapse at the weekend. I feel very stressed at the thought of calling in sick!

ragged · 11/06/2019 19:29

I think I last had a (single) sick day about 2 yrs ago.

Maybe 4-5 days in total off for sickness or injury in last 6 yrs.

Tentomidnight · 11/06/2019 19:29

0 in 3 years.
Although I was ill during annual leave, so if that had been a working week I’d have had to take 2 days off.

MrsMiggins37 · 11/06/2019 19:29

I went home early one day in January as I felt poorly.

RaininSummer · 11/06/2019 19:29

Two so far this year with violently snotty cold but none last year. Am feeling crap right now with another cold and cough combo courtesy of my students.

TheTempest · 11/06/2019 19:32

None this year, I had 8 weeks off last year after a major emergency back operation. And 4 weeks year before that for a gynae op. I’m another who works from home though a few days a week flexibly do just swap round appointments if I feel rough.

Bluesheep8 · 11/06/2019 19:35

0 this calendar year. 2 days back to back in December 2018 due to a nasty virus that did the rounds at work.

jennymanara · 11/06/2019 19:39

3 days. But I have a chronic illness and am used to going into work unless I am really ill.

Emmabryant123 · 11/06/2019 19:41

My partner has had one day of sick this year so far

vinoandbrie · 11/06/2019 19:42

None.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/06/2019 19:44

None, every day off sick affects my bonus.

notacooldad · 11/06/2019 19:45

I've had 3 weeks.

stanski · 11/06/2019 19:47

None in the past few years

Mrscog · 11/06/2019 19:48

2 - last week had awful stomach bug. As a manager I do not want people spreading stuff in the office - one person might take 3 days off sick but if that spreads around the office that can easily end up having 15 days off across the whole team.

I would expect almost everyone to have one illness a year that necessitated at least 1 day off to be honest.

comfysocks8516 · 11/06/2019 19:50

3 is not high!! I very rarely get sick, but was out for three days in a row (technically a week but I’m part time luckily) with flu. I probably average 1 or 2 a year

BikeRunSki · 11/06/2019 19:50

None for the last 7 years, and only hyperemisis in the three years prior to that, but this is not recorded as it is pregnancy related. Our sickness records only go back 10 years.

i seem to be fairly robust!

xyzandabc · 11/06/2019 19:53

I've had 3 days in 20+ years. All when pregnant with dc3. None in the last 7 years, though I do only work 3 days a week so have been ill once or twice, just never on work days.

ninnypoo · 11/06/2019 19:53
  1. My last sickness absence was Jan 2017 but I'm a teacher and to be honest it's easier to go in sick than deal with the guilt trip of sorting cover.
