How many days off sick have you had this year?

Ive had 3 and I've been told that's high. I had 2 days (back to back) back in Feb due to suspected mild pnumonia. I worked from home for a week before but 2 days I could barely move let alone work.
I've had one more day recently due to a cold. I was coughing up a lot of gung and it triggered my gag reflex and I was sick so they send me home.

I work for a very small company so I think only one other person had had a sick day but so far I've had the most. It's definitely more noticeable in a small team too so I don't want to be seen as a piss taker.

So, is that a lot in the space of 6 months? How many have you had?

I've had 2 this year - but they're also the only 2 I've had in the last 8 years.

happypotamus · 11/06/2019 16:41

Fluffa I do. How is that relevant?

piglet81 · 11/06/2019 16:41

Feels like tempting fate to answer this question!

ScreamingValenta · 11/06/2019 16:41

3 - all the same occasion, for a chest infection. That was the first time I'd been off in more than a year. I'd say once a year is about average for me.

BrokenWing · 11/06/2019 16:43

0 since I started at new company 6 years ago.

I can't remember prior to that.

ElizaPancakes · 11/06/2019 16:43

None - and officially none in 4.5 years. Reality though is that I have a flexible job so can work from home (or sleep longer) if I’m not well.

No I don’t work in the NHS Confused

CakeNinja · 11/06/2019 16:43

1 this academic year (so since September). However the year before that I slipped 2 discs in my back and was off for nearly 3 months Shock I still feel horribly guilty about that.
For 3 years before that I had none.
I’m not a very ill person despite working closely with miniature germbags, I’ve always had a pretty strong immune system which I’m very grateful for.

Kittykatmacbill · 11/06/2019 16:44

0, but I was 2 1/2 hours in late having to take a child to an emergency gp appointment. I haven’t had an actual day off sick since March 2017, when I had dramatic bug and was sick for two days. Not nhs.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/06/2019 16:45

2 but one was when my ds hurt his foot on the trampoline and the hospital advised me to keep him off school the next day.

That's not sick leave and I'm surprised your employer counted it as such. What reason did you give for being too ill to go to work?

Kittykatmacbill · 11/06/2019 16:45

But I made up the time for child’s appointment. But had to take wirh no notice.

Slinkenconken · 11/06/2019 16:47

I've had a lot this year - currently on my 7th since January. Last year I only had 1 though. It's related to a specific medical issue I've just discovered though, which hopefully should be sorted completely soon.

Parky04 · 11/06/2019 16:47

0 days sick in 11 years. Touch wood I'm hardly ever ill.

KatherineJaneway · 11/06/2019 16:47

None. I did catch a cold but it was reasonably mild and my one bad day I worked from home and luckily it was a quiet day.

amusedbush · 11/06/2019 16:48

None this year. I went home an hour early on a Friday due to a rotten cold last September but I've not called in sick for a long time. I always tend to end up really unwell when I'm on annual leave Hmm

KnittingForMittens · 11/06/2019 16:49

Yours is not high at all. I haven't had any sick days off this year... yet. the only week I've been ill was when I had annual leave! My DS has been unwell so I had to swap to another shift otherwise they put it down as unauthorised absence. They don't take any notice on policies to do with parental leave, etc.

candlefloozy · 11/06/2019 16:49

Two days back to back. Was very poorly.

Ninkaninus · 11/06/2019 16:50

None so far this year. In my current job (three and a half years duration) I have had one instance of five days off at the tail end of a throat and chest infection that wouldn’t clear. In my previous job of over 8 years duration I had three days off.

I don’t take time off unless I’m really unwell.

gobbin · 11/06/2019 16:51

12 since Sept over 4 instances. All genuine, two instances related to Crohns, one heavy cold and a heavy cold that turned into sinusitis (signed off by GP).

lanbro · 11/06/2019 16:52

One of my employees has had 8 days in 8 months, 6 separate illnesses. I'll be addressing it next week.

I've had none un 8 years but work for myself!

Babblepook · 11/06/2019 16:53

I had a week with the flu and then a couple of odd days here and there with bad colds.

I can’t bear those who selfishly go into work sick - and worse still brag about it as if it’s a positive thing.

If you’re ill. You’re ill. You’re an adult and I couldn’t work for a company that didn’t treat me as such

Faster · 11/06/2019 16:55

None this year. But I’ve not been ill. Plus I only work three days a week so hopefully I’d fall ill on a day off and not disrupt work. Oh and I’m NHS. Pisstakers the lot of us fluffa.

Marmite27 · 11/06/2019 16:57

Zero, but I have had 1 family day and 2 WFH days due to sick children.

It would be higher as they had flu in February, but I was on maternity leave until March.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2019 16:57

Half a day. Went home with a migraine.

BigGlasses · 11/06/2019 16:57

I've 0 this year, and actually when I think about it I can't actually remember the last time I called in sick (I've jinxed myself now). I think I am just really really lucky though

I don't think 3 days this year is particularly high

MotherOfTheNoise · 11/06/2019 16:58

I haven't had a sick day in 5 years but I am on maternity leave currently Grin more due to luck than anything! Tend to get ill when I'm on holiday Sad
