How many days off sick have you had this year?

Ive had 3 and I've been told that's high. I had 2 days (back to back) back in Feb due to suspected mild pnumonia. I worked from home for a week before but 2 days I could barely move let alone work.
I've had one more day recently due to a cold. I was coughing up a lot of gung and it triggered my gag reflex and I was sick so they send me home.

I work for a very small company so I think only one other person had had a sick day but so far I've had the most. It's definitely more noticeable in a small team too so I don't want to be seen as a piss taker.

So, is that a lot in the space of 6 months? How many have you had?

None! 2 days in last two years, though.

REDCARBLUE · 11/06/2019 18:20

1 due to back problems.

Last employment was 2 in 5 yrs.

DH has a record os 0 days in 24 yrs.

KnitterOfSocks · 11/06/2019 18:22

One half day when I had a migraine and went home at lunchtime. Nothing in the three years before that, but I've been very lucky. I did have two weeks with swine flu in 2009, and then 9 weeks with anxiety in 2014. Apart from that, the odd day for actual vomit or occasional Nigerian.

KnitterOfSocks · 11/06/2019 18:22

MIGRAINE

AliceRR · 11/06/2019 18:28

The time you’ve had off doesn’t sound excessive and it may well be justified but I have had no time off sick all year most years and there must be others like me so compared to me you would have had a lot of time off IYSWIM

But if you’re ill, you’re ill, and maybe this year has just been a bad year in that sense

How much time have you had off sick in previous years?

AliceRR · 11/06/2019 18:30

Tell your friend to do one. Everyone gets unwell sometimes and it’s often down to luck as to whether you catch something and it prevents you from working.

Zebedee88 · 11/06/2019 18:34

One this year, I was being sick all night and day.

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 11/06/2019 18:34

0!

happyhillock · 11/06/2019 18:34

22 sick day's in 25 year's, i hate being off work except for holiday's

Lemonlady22 · 11/06/2019 18:39

Loads, but i have a chronic illness that is life limiting.....not life limiting enough to get PIP though according to DWP.....so i have to struggle on until work get rid of me or i die!

S0CKS · 11/06/2019 18:41

Since May 2017 i have had two days when i had really bad flu and no voice

Grumpymug · 11/06/2019 18:46

None this year (touch wood now!) And one in the last 5. Had 3 weeks the year before that for gall bladder removed and quite a few sick days leading up to that.
Had my tonsils out at 24 and had a lot of sick before then because a cold used to make me really ill and always led to tonsillitis. I pretty much breeze through colds now because I remember how it used to be when I got one and am grateful I don't have to put up with that any more! Doesn't mean I should go to work though really, spreading it around but if I don't work I don't get paid so it's more a case of having to really than actually wanting to or through some sort of martyrdom.
Compared to some of my colleagues, yours isn't particularly high though I don't think.

Catypillar · 11/06/2019 18:49

50-60. I have bipolar disorder. Some years I have no time off, others it's a few weeks. This is the most time off I have had. There has been no question about me getting in any trouble- my colleagues have been so kind and put me under no pressure at all to come back before I'm ready. I'm a consultant psychiatrist. I actually felt more pressure to be at work as a junior doctor because you have to extend your training if you have more than two weeks off in a year. Think I should be allowed to claim CPD points for being ill because it's taught me more useful stuff for work than the MRCPsych exams did...

ForalltheSaints · 11/06/2019 19:04

None. A lot better than last year when I had an eye infection.

megletthesecond · 11/06/2019 19:06

1 for depression. although I probably need six months off at least.

I don't think 3 is high. I wish some of my colleagues would have more sick days instead of spreading it around the office. I'd rather cover work than be ill.

Dauphinois · 11/06/2019 19:07

None in 5 years.

But yours doesn't seem that bad.

BigStripeyBastard · 11/06/2019 19:07

2 days, last week. First time in ages, probably over 2 years. I had a shitty, heavy cold. I can usually get through a normal cold but my head was literally leaking gunk from every orifice, my eye swelled shut and I couldn't see my computer screen for all the streaming. So I gave in and lay on the sofa moaning gently for two days.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 11/06/2019 19:09

2 day in eight years

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 11/06/2019 19:12

1 day this year (did my back in so took the last day off before I was off for 5 days anyway so possibly would’ve been more without that)

3 days off sick in 11 years, dragged myself in all other times

Which I’m starting to realise does not mean I should be proud of my sick record, I should be kicking myself for not looking after myself properly.

VodselForDinner · 11/06/2019 19:13

3, I think.

I’m lucky to work for a company that pays full sick pay, and discourages presenteeism. When you’re sick, you’re sick, and expected to stay home, get better, and keep your germs to yourself.

MintedLamb · 11/06/2019 19:14

None this year. Last time I had time off sick was sept 2017 with a stomach bug.

stucknoue · 11/06/2019 19:15

None, have only had one day off with current employer (8 years) and that was for a minor op. I go in whatever and stick a sign on my office saying enter at your own risk! I work alone

Rory4Leader · 11/06/2019 19:16

None.

Think it sounds like a lot to have already.

Andonandonan · 11/06/2019 19:18

None this year but that’s just luck that I haven’t been ill.

If I think of my colleagues, all bar 1 doing the same role as me have had at least 2 days off, some as much as 4 weeks.

Yours doesn’t sound that high.

bellinisurge · 11/06/2019 19:19

None. 3 occasions at our office would trigger our disciplinary policy unless there were mitigating factors. I'm public sector.
