It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

I'm another Summer hater. Anything over 20c and I'm miserable. I get hayfever, a sun allergy rash, always get bitten despite using insect repellent and react quite badly to bites. Last year was particularly bad and at one point I had over 20 swollen and very itchy bites on my arms and legs.

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 17:40

Although I love summer (when we eventually do get it - I'm still waiting here) I do get how miserable it must be for anyone who suffers from hayfever, allergies, heat rash, burns easily in the sun, have horrible commutes in stuffy public transport, don't work in offices with aircon etc.

However, I don't understand people who complain about being hot when they are wearing jumpers and skinny jeans or other tight clothing.

It was a revelation to me one very hot day when I changed out of a close fitting sleeveless vest top into a loose shirt. The difference in feeling much cooler was astonishing. So at the risk of sounding incredibly patronising (sorry) - wearing loose fitting clothes does make a huge difference.

According to my one true love the temperature sensor on my tower fan, it was 26 degrees indoors yesterday until gone 10pm. I don't doubt it.

I spent a whole ten minutes outside watering new plants and felt like I'd had a facelift as my forehead is already uncomfortably tight and dry as anything.

Today, it's been a bit blustery through the windows and it's 'just' 25 degrees. I'm actually comfortable in a pair of light yoga pants and a gym vest top. But I've got work tomorrow, which is always foul in hot weather - no aircon, no ventilation, no fans. And I have to wear work clothes.

Roll on a sunny autumn day where I can wear a thin jumper and thick socks again.

Cakemonger · 02/06/2019 17:48

I used to like summer but due to our awful neighbours making a racket every time the sun comes out I have been praying for rain Angry

Bwekfusth · 02/06/2019 17:54

Made the mistake of going in to London yesterday, was horrendous, and the tube was so stifling I could barely breathe. I shall steer clear till autumn now, the best season!

AuntieMarys · 02/06/2019 18:00

I am off to Greece this week. With a sun allergy Grin
I must be mad. I shall be wafting about in the shade and avoiding the mozzies in the evening.

Notasyoungasiwas · 02/06/2019 18:11

I am definitely with you all on this one. Wasn't too bad today - but of a breeze. Going to London on Fathers Day, hope it's raining Grin

We went hiking today, in the mountains in Switzerland, it was 27 degrees and we were hiking on one which was weird. DH had DS in the kiddy backpack so I had about 10 kg of extra clothes, water, bananas, nappies etc. My t-shirt was soaked when I took my backpack off. I did find a nice pair of linen trousers last week though which prevented the chub rub, unfortunately DH ended up with it between his bum cheeks and was not so happy.

We have two beautiful balconies, one with a view of the alps and the other looking over a cow field and I can’t be arsed to sit and sweat on either of them.

It was 26 degrees in DS bedroom last night, poor thing. I miss spring already!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 02/06/2019 18:39

We were hiking on snow ❄️

I was wondering when this thread would show up. Still hot and humid in my stupidly insulated house, even after rolling up the loft insulation.

Also a reminder that violent crimes go up in the heat, it does not make everyone automatically happy!

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 19:00

"Also a reminder that violent crimes go up in the heat"

That sounds depressing. I know city riots always seem to increase in nicer weather.

RobinHobb · 02/06/2019 19:43

Ah! I was looking for this thread! It saved my sanity last year....

Emmabryant123 · 02/06/2019 20:04

Why do people come on here who love heat
Arghhh
This is clearly a thread for those who hate summer...

Emmabryant123 · 02/06/2019 20:08

Oh and roll on October
All though the only good thing about summer is my dd who is 3 doesn't get cold after cold
Other than that summer can fuck off 😁

MrsJBaptiste · 02/06/2019 20:56

Again... where are you all with these HOT summer temperatures???

DappledThings · 02/06/2019 20:57

MrsJBaptiste East Kent.

Emmabryant123 · 02/06/2019 20:57

South east

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 21:02

South East here too.

Becca19962014 · 02/06/2019 21:11

It's been as hot here as it was last summer - 26c outside and no air moving, inside 22c. At 20c , some of you might remember from last year my health is badly effected. Yesterday I was very unwell and ended up falling in the street. It felt suffocating yesterday as there was zero breeze.

I barely recovered my functioning from last year (lost a lot and never recovered). Been dreading summer this year as heat is one of the major triggers for my condition Sad

Today it's rained and been cooler which is good but I'm scared for summer.

GummyGoddess · 02/06/2019 21:14

Near Gatwick. It was 26 today, I'm uncomfortable over 21. The DC and I were covered in a fine sheen of sweat most of the day.

Last year I seem to recall acclimatising so that I could cope reasonably well up to 24.

I have read reports that this year and next year will be awful, but should be cooler after 2020.

UnderPompeii · 02/06/2019 21:20

Becca that sounds awful, poor youThanks

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 22:01

Right, all of you. I want you to put your fans on and position them in a north facing direction so you can waft the warm air up north to us sunny warmth deprived northerners Grin

Dhalandchips · 02/06/2019 22:13

It's tried raining a little bit here (Oxon) about 6pm, for which I was very grateful. I hate anything above 19°C!

notoafternoontea · 02/06/2019 22:15

My people!! I loathe it. Grumpy children, who have incredibly fair skin so it’s all about, ‘Put on your hat. NOW! I don’t care that you’re hot! Put it on!’ ‘DD1, please finish that water. No, you need to drink more. Yes you do. You’re grumpy when you’re dehydrated, just drink it’ ‘No, you can’t have that vest top. I know it’s pretty but your shoulders won’t be after 10 minutes.’

Give me coats and hats any day of the week.
Oh and the three swollen insect bites, including the one in my arse, are annoying!!!

DuggeesWoggle · 02/06/2019 22:24

Lovely temperature up here in n yorks - 18/19 and it has been cloudy with rain coming over sporadically. Windy tonight. I'm 6 months pregnant so the longer the heat holds off here the better, I can't bear the thought of a summer like last year but with an extra 2 stone on me!

Wishing you hot people a good night's sleep and a cooler week ahead.
