It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Friends! I remember the epic thread last year - really helped to get me through that horrendous heatwave. This year it's been far better. I'm in the NW and so far we've only had the odd warm day. Condolences to those of you already battling in high temps.

Last year that heatwave started pretty early in May, so the fact that we're already into June with no sign of prolonged heat is a huge relief to me.

OneInAMillionYou · 03/06/2019 02:22

Hello fellow summer haters. This thread helped me get through the hideousness that was summer 2018.

I live in the South East. The temperature is always a good 2 or 3 degrees higher than on the weather websites, once it gets over 20 degrees it seems to stay that way!

I hate the way people behave in the summer. Noisy neighbours, idiots in cars pumping out music. Violent crime rates up.

Physically, I cannot cope with being hot, I hate it. Hair sticking to my scalp, clothes clinging to me. So hard to dress 'professionally' . Luckily I mainly work from home but have meetings/briefings to attend, usually in London, which is the seventh circle of hell in the summer.

Ten years ago, after night after night of 96 degrees in our bedroom, we caved and bought proper air con unit. The best few thousand pounds ever spent on the house. I think I would have been suicidal last year without it. I have a health condition which is exacerbated by dehydration, which means in summer I am drinking constantly and going to the loo almost as frequently.

20 degrees is warm enough for anyone to do anything outside they want to, anything above is unnecessary.

For,those saying we've had our nine months of winter - where are you living, the Arctic? It didn't cool down properly here until the beginning of November and we had one of the mildest winters ever.
Once the clocks go back, my heart sinks. After that is daily weather watch and planning to limit exposure as much as possible.

Global warming is a real and clear danger to the planet, some parts of the world will become uninhabitable. Probably not in my lifetime but the regular heatwaves in previously temperate climates are just the beginning.

Solidarity to everyone who suffers in the heat. Hope we get more cooler days than last year.

managedmis · 03/06/2019 02:34

I think we got to 20 yesterday, there was no breeze so it was warm sleeping. Today it's a high of 16, I've got a long cardigan on and a blanket for sitting in the garden with papers and a pot of tea. Gorgeous.

^^

This is ideal weather.

27 degrees in London Shock

TapasForTwo · 03/06/2019 06:26

OneInaMillion the north of the UK has a significantly different climate to London and the home counties, so we genuinely do have what feels like 9 months of winter.

Us northerners read posts like yours complaining about the heat and think "what heat"?

Temperatures where I am have been 18 degrees at the highest point (yesterday) and will be 13 - 15 degrees this week.

GummyGoddess · 03/06/2019 06:34

I dream of moving north. Perhaps I will retire to Scotland, maybe Edinburgh. Then I would have lovely cool weather and lovely accents all around me.

TapasForTwo · 03/06/2019 06:54

I dream of moving south Gummy Grin

AuntieMarys · 03/06/2019 07:16

I moved North 😀
Don't want 28 degrees anymore.

ForalltheSaints · 03/06/2019 07:26

I feel I should advise you to take the weather presenter Elizabeth Rizzini off your Christmas card list. Who described the weekend's weather as 'glorious'.

MrsAmaretto · 03/06/2019 07:52

It was 4 degrees and sleeting last week in Shetland. I’m back to wearing winter jumpers. Can’t wait for some warmth

lololove · 03/06/2019 08:23

I have found my people.

Hate summer with a passion. Its made worse with having a medical condition that means I am roasting pretty much constantly and never wear anything thicker than a hoody in winter, even when snowing as I'm bright red and sweating.

Add in the hayfever and being barely able to breathe with a head full of cotton wool on top? EVIL!

LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 08:55

Bit hot in the night but lovely and cool this morning, yay!

RosaWaiting · 03/06/2019 09:27

I think London has a massive problem with being overly built up etc and that makes summer far worse than it used to be. My outer suburb is completely different than it was even 8 years ago. Probably suburbs all across the country have this problem.

this weekend wasn't as bad as they said - I think because of cloud cover. So when I went home from mum's, the flat wasn't horrendous.

I think spending winter in the South and summer up North would be a perfect way to do things, for me!

I also hate cooking in the galley kitchen - which is part of the lounge - as it heats the place up so much.

LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 09:34

London ime doesn't do that lovely cooling down thing in the evenings,it just stays hot while you try to sleep!

CaptainHammer · 03/06/2019 09:34

This thread helped a lot last year. Apart from my husband every around me LOVES summer and doesn’t understand my absolute hatred of it.

I’m in the south east too. Yesterday was too much. Today here is currently 16° and cloudy, perfect. Any higher and I’m not happy.

CaptainHammer · 03/06/2019 09:38

To add - I agree with posters recommending air con. We rent so can’t have it properly fitted but a portable air con unit last summer made it so much better. I also recommend the Honeywell Quietset tower fan for bedrooms. It has a quiet night mode which isn’t silent but so much quieter than our old fan.

ChatNicknameAlreadyInUse · 03/06/2019 09:42

You can all come and live in Scotland with me! I hate heat and will be bealing when it goes over 20 degrees.

It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.
RosaWaiting · 03/06/2019 09:50

LoafofSellotape exactly! Last year was hell and all the posters saying "leave windows open at night" - makes no difference to the temp.

and you can hear all the drunks yelling. That's another thing about summer - it brings out so much noise it's incredible. I used to think I wanted a house and garden but now think a bigger flat would be better, as balconies are gardens are just noise generators in summer.

RosaWaiting · 03/06/2019 09:50

*Balconies AND gardens

lololove · 03/06/2019 10:00

That and having your windows open when everyone has bbq, or in the case of my neighbours 2 houses down bloody great stinking bonfires. Love the house stinking of burning and smoke (!!) can't even dry the washing (the only good thing about the weather!) outside as as soon as it goes out the neighbours seem to light their bonfires.

MyInnerAlto · 03/06/2019 12:03

34 predicted where I am today (central Europe), feels like 40. I'd be grateful for 26-27.

I love moderate warmth (21-25 ish), preferably with a nice breeze. Don't do heat at all.

RosaWaiting · 03/06/2019 12:23

re Europe

a pp said something about going to Greece when they don't like heat? Seems a bit odd?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/06/2019 12:24

I am jealous.

I was so cold at the weekend I put the heating on. Certainly not nice up north.

Becca19962014 · 03/06/2019 12:56

Today is now cooler, warm inside though as lots of hot sun this morning.

LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 13:17

14 degrees here today and just perfect 😊

Wheresmrlion · 03/06/2019 13:32

Yesterday was awful (SE). I got mild sunburn from gardening at 4pm.

I’m fat and breastfeeding a hot baby and just feel sticky and yucky.

19 degrees and a light breeze is my optimum please. I need to move back north!!
