It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Shit. Temperature rapidly rising here.

It's gone 10pm ffs!!

RosaWaiting · 22/07/2019 22:28

Becca, looking at the way the temps were set I realised that would happen. I think in London it will be 29 by 10am or something.

You have got your air cooler box from last year, I hope?

RosaWaiting · 22/07/2019 22:29

All the “random people who shout during late night hot weather” have arrived.

MotherofPearl · 22/07/2019 22:47

Exactly Pete. I don't want to wish time away, especially holiday time with the DC, but I do find myself keenly counting down the weeks till autumn.

Every few days I allow myself the treat of checking the sunset time for two weeks ahead, which is what BBC weather goes up to. It's a joy to me to see it slip back earlier and earlier.

I think by early August sunset will finally be earlier than 9pm. Grin I know there may still be hot weather to come but at least daylight hours in which the sun can shine will be fewer!

Dandelionplease · 23/07/2019 00:14

Was it this hot last year?

ItsAlrightAlright · 23/07/2019 00:42

@MotherofPearl You can get the Rise app (for free) which gives you the sunrise, sunset and first and last light times for any day of the year!

RosaWaiting · 23/07/2019 00:48

Dandelion, we certainly hit 32 in London last year. The main problem was the cumulative heat though. Over a long period it was just horrendous. Many buildings don’t lose heat, the Tube certainly doesn’t lose heat. Well, I travel on the deeper lines with no air con, but I appreciate there’s literally no way of putting in air con that far down.

I don’t feel as if the nights draw in till about end of September. I use timeanddate.com for times. My late father used to tell me when there was a change of a few seconds so I didn’t need to use to before! He liked the summer though.

NeedIceInMyBrain · 23/07/2019 02:31

Why is there such disparity between the temperature and the ‘feels like’? There’s 7 degrees difference!! I’m dreading it Sad

I hate this I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT.

I HATE IT

Minai · 23/07/2019 08:24

It’s now forecast 38 here on Thursday. Actual hell on earth.
I feel awful for my poor grandmother in France who hates the heat as much as I do and is dealing with 42 degrees at the moment.

fortheloveofPete · 23/07/2019 08:37

Sometimes the only thing getting me through this heat is knowing that it's one day closer to the temperatures falling to more normal and productive levels

lololove · 23/07/2019 09:21

We are getting there. Nearly August now so sooner September than October like the above poster said.

It can fuck off!

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 09:41

Humidity here already at 90%.
Temp reading "just" 22 but it's obviously feeling much much worse than that and rapidly rising. Not cooled at all over night.

End of week wasn't as bad here, now it is. Am really worried now about if I don't get food/meds now (literally about to go out) then I won't have any rest of week. I'll have to divide it out over the next few days with diabetes that's going to be really difficult to manage, especially with seziures and migraine my blood sugar will be screwed anyway. Fuck.

I swear if my landlord turns up to mow the fucking grass I'll kill the bastard. My hayfever is really bad and triggering asthma attacks. The only window I have that opens is on to the very overgrown grass and I cannot close it (it's quickly becomes even more unbearable if I do that).

Will try and restrain myself from killing any sarcastic bastards. If I fail I'll call on you to be my defence! Prepare yourselves!!

LoafofSellotape · 23/07/2019 09:56

I'm home after physio, the car journey home was bliss with air con on full blast! I'm now flopped in front of the big fan at home. Thursday says 35 here with a moderate breeze, moderate in weather speak means really bloody breezy which might make it bearable, just!!

ItsAlrightAlright · 23/07/2019 09:56

I know we are supposed to leave curtains closed but should windows be open or closed? My DM is adamant that keeping windows closed makes the house cooler as ‘the heat can’t get in’ - is that right?

LoafofSellotape · 23/07/2019 10:00

It depends on the house,I air in the morning with the windows open and curtains drawn and when it gets really hot I batten down the hatches . Trial and error and depends on the house and which way it's facing etc.

spiderlight · 23/07/2019 10:53

Well now I have a stinking fucking cold just to make this even more of a joy :(

yulet · 23/07/2019 11:02

Windows closed when its hotter outside than in - open again when its cooler outside, usually later in the evening. Otherwise you're just letting hot air in.

Thursday looks like hell on earth here, and that's on top of two days of already heating up our flat - I'm just hoping I can stay well enough for work, that's all I need to do somehow.

I've just shut windows and curtains in front room as much hotter out than in now

ItsAlrightAlright · 23/07/2019 11:35

We are south facing. 😑

I have opened the windows at the back of the house (in the shade) and am keeping curtains at the front closed. The fans are on.

I’m really bloody fed up.

RosaWaiting · 23/07/2019 11:37

spider I really feel for you.

Skyejuly · 23/07/2019 11:39

Mines saying 30-32 feels like 38...wtf

LoafOfSellotape · 23/07/2019 11:46
