It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Local fairies saying its 24c with feelslike 26c. I've my small window open with fans going and it's 22.8 inside and climbing, most importantly when I got back it actually felt cool inside.

Like hell its that outside. There's just no way. It's blistering in the sun. Everyone's fighting to get into the shade.

Getting meds/food was hellish. Apparently some idiots have been complaining about shops being "cold" so the fucking air con has been turned off.

I felt really ill but feeling better now as its cool in here. Bought some ice cubes and put some in my mini air con and a towel to cool me off.

I swear I was hitlers mum or something in a previous life to go through this fucking shit.

Hellishot · 23/07/2019 11:59

@bigmouselittlehouse Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I suspect I've gone for the false economy option. I haven't much money to spare and went for the cheapest I could find, Amcor at Appliances Direct. Bit worried now I've read the lowest rated reviews, which suggest it doesn't work well! Might send it back if I can and upgrade to the Ecoair. That comes up in Best Air Con guides when I googled.

My loft conversion is truly hell on earth with the windows closed. Worked ok in my old house so it definitely depends where you live, type of housing.

Can Thursday please not happen.

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 12:01

Supposedly we are getting thunder storms later - severe weather warning here (I'll believe it when I see/hear it). Tomorrow is looking great at 21c but Thursday is very high again Confused

Got huge appointment tomorrow and wondering if I should just cancel it. Is it possible for it to be cool tomorrow and boiling again on Thursday and cold on Friday?? Feel like the little glittery shits are playing with me....

SheWoreRedVelvet · 23/07/2019 12:55

I hate the heat, any heat, and I pour with sweat on my face and in my hair. So, I have decided to throw money at the problem and bought one of those instant, cold towels from Dock & Bay and some Odaban deodorant which I will apply to my face.

PantsyMcPantsface · 23/07/2019 13:16

I have found my people. 30 degrees here today and it’s awful - schools still have 2 days of term left and all the local ones are now following an “it’s too damned hot - come to school in whatever the hell you’re comfortable in” policy which I agree with whole heartedly.

Just hung washing out and now have a horrible heat headache again - had one yesterday as well (I get them easily)

Hellishot · 23/07/2019 13:18

Help! Apparently there's a problem with my air con delivery (I've been in all morning and took in a Royal Mail special delivery earlier Confused). They said they might be able to redeliver later but just in case can anyone recommend urgently a decent but not too expensive air cooler or fan? It will be useful for the living room, even if the air con arrives and actually works, as that's going in the bedroom. Argos if possible as DP can collect later today. I gave up on fans because I find they just blow hot air but I'm desperate for anything now.

Becca, I don't think I can face venturing out but I want to try to get to the supermarket purely for the air con. Who on earth wants it turned off in this heat?! With your appointment, perhaps see how the weather is tomorrow? Or can you get an air-conditioned cab there and back? Sorry if that's not possible.

LoafOfSellotape · 23/07/2019 14:05

I always use fans,my definitely doesn't just blow hot air round.

LoafOfSellotape · 23/07/2019 14:06

www.argos.co.uk/product/8663669

We have one like this

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 14:23

No air con taxis here, they're just standard cars. The building has zero air con and Windows that don't open its in a hospital which is stuffy at the best of times, went in December last year and fainted from the heat in there. The windows open about a centimetre maximum.

I need to be able to get out for a decent food shop on Thursday, if as unwell tomorrow I won't be able to do that but apparently the weather isn't a good enough reason to cancel.

RosaWaiting · 23/07/2019 14:24

hell I agree that fans blow hot air around.

have you seen the personal air cooler thingies? I've only seen them advertised but I think quite a few places sell them.

Gummybear11 · 23/07/2019 14:38

Kept my DCs off school today because school going ahead with sports day (1-3pm) it's 30 here, no fucking way are my kids running in that/sitting around in the heat.
Irresponsible decision by school.

LoafOfSellotape · 23/07/2019 14:45

Good grief,sports day?!!!

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 14:56

At the end of June when it was 32c here the local school had sports day. Utterly stupid thing to do.

LoafOfSellotape · 23/07/2019 15:03

They could've had sports day first thing when it was cooler,if they had it this afternoon that is utterly irresponsible!

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 15:05

Hitting over 24c inside now. If it gets to 25 I'll be in a lot of trouble as my inhalers etc will stop working and can't get to GP for a new.

Having said that I've got condensation building up from the difference between inside and outside so it's actually much cooler inside. My little air con from amazon is definitely doing something and I've my cold tap running with a fan on full blast next to it.

We've no wind or breeze at all now. Must be hell outside. Fairies now saying it's over 30c so I dread to imagine what it actually is. Must be heading to towards mid 30s if not 40.

Horrific.

Becca19962014 · 23/07/2019 15:07

Barometer is rapidly falling so I don't know if that means the storms are on their way, hoping that puts paid to Thursday as well.

MissClareRemembers · 23/07/2019 15:09

It’s forecast to be 35 degrees here on Thursday. Everybody else is giddy with excitement whilst I’m bloody dreading it. Hate, hate, hate hot weather. I can’t even walk to the end of the garden without sweating. And i have to take the DCs to a swimming lesson in a bit and the poolside area is hellishly hot.

😭

Hellishot · 23/07/2019 15:22

Thanks, Loaf and Rosa. I swore to myself I'd be prepared before the heat struck yet here I am panic buying when the prices have gone up and things are out of stock...

No mini air cooler thing (at a cheaper price) in stock at any Argos near me. I've bought a fan and will DIY with a bucket of ice in front of it. I've also ordered a cooling gel pad and some ice packs from Amazon.

Sports Day in this heat?!

Becca, I hate how hot hospitals are. Absolutely hate it. I ended up lurking in the corridor for a couple of hours looking like a weirdo last time I went. The waiting room was horrendous.

spiderlight · 23/07/2019 16:02

Our mercury thermometer in the garden has it at 32 in the shade. DS has just had me clambering around in the world's most overfilled and spidery shed, with a corrugated metal roof, looking for our big inflatable pool. I can't find it and now I have a raging headache to go with my cold.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/07/2019 16:10

SE London and I'm sizzling. I've changed my clothes once already as I am sweating like a pig literally.

I stepped out an hour ago to put some washing out and I felt my skin tingling and I'm black, with mid-brown toned skin so rays are strong. The garden is almost white hot. A snail was on the concrete patio trying to make it to the grass and shade and is now dead. The concrete is so hot it cooked it.

Garden wouldn't normally be so hot but my neighbours cut down a very old and huge common lime tree and now it's shade is gone so the sun blazes in. Course they love it and were gleefully telling me about how great the extra light would be. Imbeciles! Now the Kitchen's like a greenhouse.

I've filled up my hot water bottle and put it in the freezer. Am starting to feel headache already so think I'm going to try a nap and get up when it's cooler. We really need to start implementing Siestas in this country!!

Please god it rains or something.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/07/2019 16:12

Are we doing another thread? This is nearly full.

Skyejuly · 23/07/2019 16:20

Try spraying concrete with hose,?

MepsiPax · 23/07/2019 16:45

It's forecast to be 35 degrees here on Thursday. Everybody else is giddy with excitement whilst I'm bloody dreading it. Hate hate hate hot weather. My feelings exactly! Sounds like you're in the same part of the country as me. It's forecast to be 35 degrees, but apparently, will feel 5 or 6 degrees hotter because of the humidity. FFS,I'm just going to stay in all day, laying on my bed,in front of the fan. Anything more absolutely flattens me. I was running with sweat today just walking 100 yards to the bus stop.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/07/2019 16:47

Made a new thread. Link here hope it bloody works.
