It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

I loved this thread last year as I was in my first trimester during the heat wave and sick as a dog, without 30 degree heat!

This year I'm looking forward to a nice summer, I hate the rain and love the sun. BUT, since having babies I'm not a fan (pun intended) of anything over 25 degrees - I get hot and sweaty as it is pushing prams, carrying small children etc. Not to mention the worry about what to dress them in and them overheating at night. 20-25 degrees and sunny please! That's all I want Smile

dudsville · 02/06/2019 14:17

I think we got to 20 yesterday, there was no breeze so it was warm sleeping. Today it's a high of 16, I've got a long cardigan on and a blanket for sitting in the garden with papers and a pot of tea. Gorgeous.

missmouse101 · 02/06/2019 14:22

Yesterday was 21degrees and very bright and humid. It was about the maximum I can take. Dreading 3 months of hell, glad next week is looking cool.

DappledThings · 02/06/2019 14:24

Do none of you care that it’s to be wearing a cardigan in June?
Nope, I prefer to be able.to wear a couple of layers

Do you not get depressed over the endless grey skies?
A little, but that really isn't what the other three seasons are. We get lots of lovely clear days where it's blue and sunny just still a much more pleasant temperature. Can't beat a beautiful crisp autumn day with blue skies but coats on and frost in the morning

Don’t you feel energised by the warm sun stirring the vitamin D of your soul?
Again I get this a little in spring when the sun comes out but it's still a pleasant 18 or so. Anything above that for any sustained time is horrible for me.

Honestly I don't mind a bit of sun IF and when it's cool enough that I can comfortably cover up fully and there's a bit of a breeze going. I can't really do bare skin in sunshine, as I get an itchy rash (and also really hate the feeling of gloopy, sticky sun cream, which won't stop me from burning anyway). Also cardigans are the best. And I'm a bit depressed regardless of weather, and it feels worse when it's "nice" out and there's this expectation that you're supposed to be enjoying it.

Barbarafromblackpool · 02/06/2019 14:32

London calling. Couldn't sleep last night. I like it when's it's 19-22 degrees, plenty warm enough to wear summer clothes, sit outside etc. Absolutely no need for an extra 10 degrees.

Asta19 · 02/06/2019 14:34

Ah I remember this thread from last year, although I’ve NC’d since then. I hate the heat. The last time I went out for a walk in the “lovely” sun I ended up with heat rash all over my arms and legs. I also get a lot of joint and muscle pain in hot weather. As well as the headache and then nausea if `I don’t cool down. What joy! I’m in my room with the portable air con. If this summer is going to be like the last then I’m having proper air con fitted downstairs. Yes I know it’s bad for the environment but I still have to be able to live! I can’t spend another stretch of months at a time living in one room, unable to do anything.

SmarmyMrMime · 02/06/2019 14:37

18oC and raining here. Not enough blazing summer weather to be worth getting offended by unlike winter which really does last for months. Actually this winter wasn't too bad and didn't have too many weeks of relentless grey skies looming down ominously and pointlessly.

If summer actually visits for more than 3 days, call me back.

OldAndWornOut · 02/06/2019 14:45

Its warming up here; the sun is breaking through the clouds, and I'm starting to sweat. Ugh!

EdWinchester · 02/06/2019 14:47

I love the heat, a summer just like last year would be bliss.

I suspect we won't be that lucky.

lhw92 · 02/06/2019 14:55

I’ve also nc’d a few times from last summer’s thread but glad to have found my people again.

"oh the weather is gorgeous today" everytime its sunny and warm. No its not its shit but obviously I don't voice my disapproval because if you say to anyone that you hate the heat they look at you like you're from another planet.

When it’s over 18c as soon as I have to walk, drive, rush to work (essentially carry on with normal plans) I feel such a horribly sweaty disheveled mess
My skin looks so much worse in direct sunlight too and I hate not being able to cover up

I don’t know how I get so hot and sweaty so easily, meanwhile people around me are all calm and collected

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 15:33

Well, its looking fairly cool here for the rest of the week, fingers crossed it stays that way.

Apolloanddaphne · 02/06/2019 16:19

I am on a city break in Amsterdam at the moment and it is currently 31 degrees. I have been a red faced sweaty mess all day. Now back in my lovely air conditioned room all showered and in my pyjamas! We have wine and food. Not going out again until tomorrow when it is supposed to be a damp 18 degrees. My Scottish body understands that sort of weather!

Minai · 02/06/2019 16:22

Ah hello my people. Yes today has been far too hot for me. Last summer was horrendous. I was pregnant which didn’t help and this year I have a baby who seems to hate the heat as much as I do. Horribly sticky here today and dreading the weather to come this summer.

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 16:25

"I despise summer clothes because they make me look like shit"

You are wearing the wrong clothes then. There are summer clothes that suit every shape and size. Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy and revealing.

What temperature do people consider hot?

I admit that my tolerance of hot weather is lower than it used to be. We have just come back from a holiday where it was 22 - 24 degrees, and it was perfect. Not too hot to do anything, but hot enough to wear summer clothes and go for a swim. My optimum temperature is about 25 degrees.

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 16:35

Anything over 22 is too hot for me, but it does depend on humidity to a large extent. I prefer a cooling breeze and some fluffy white clouds so the sun isn't blazing down all the time.

Summerflab · 02/06/2019 16:37

I agree- summer just makes anyone who already feels bad about their weight and size feel even worse 😢

UnderPompeii · 02/06/2019 16:43

I keep searching for shorts to help with the dreaded chub rub, always bad in the heat when you just want to be in a floaty dress. But they're all too tight, too thick, or ride up. I think I may start up a business making thin cotton not too tight not frilly or lacy under shortsGrin may need a more catchy name

Summerflab · 02/06/2019 16:48

Underpompeii I would buy some if they prevented the dreaded chub rub 🤣

UnderPompeii · 02/06/2019 16:53

Summerflab I'll send you a prototypeGrin

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 17:08

I think if you post in Style and Beauty you will get some useful recommendations. This comes up every year.

Dowser · 02/06/2019 17:09

When is it going to start?

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 02/06/2019 17:15

28° here today. Utter hell on earth.

I considered getting the paddling pool out but from tomorrow the temperature is going to drop all week to about 17° 🤞🎉

doobydoobydooo · 02/06/2019 17:15

I hate hate hate summer . I'm just not a summer person . Can think of nothing worse than being all sweaty , hot , clammy , bugs everywhere ,

I absolutely love autumn and winter , crisp air , the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet , pumpkins , dark evenings , the lovely orange , red and brown colours everywhere , the smell of cinnamon and mulled wine , and of course the C word .... Christmas 😁

bottlesup · 02/06/2019 17:19

Oh my here’s my kind of thread. I feel like I put 20 pounds on the last couple of days as I swell up in the heat arghhh. To top it off in the last two years I’ve developed a diagnosed sun allergy. Wtf I thought when I found out. I now get a gorgeous rash on certain areas that the sun hits. Mainly my hands when I’m driving and they’re stuck in the sun on the steering wheel.
Move me to North Pole now!
