It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Checking in - heatrash, hayfever (mild thankfully), too sticky in work clothes, too hot to sleep and plagued by flies licking my face all night Envy

MrsJBaptiste · 02/06/2019 09:05

I may agree with you when the weather actually resembles summer but we've not had any sun yet this weekend and temperatures haven't gone about 16-17° over the last couple of weeks (West Yorkshire)

Actually who am I kidding, I bloody love hot weather! ☀️☀️☀️

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 09:45

Lovely cool rain this morning Smile

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 10:25

Rain here in Northumberland. We had decent weather at Easter, and one or two warm, not hot, days since, but no summer weather yet. Envious of those of you enjoying 26/27 degrees and sunshine Envy

WeCameToDance · 02/06/2019 10:30

It's raining here. The rain dance I did last night obviously had some effect Wink
I hate May through to September and spend the entirety of the time counting the days down on the calender. I dream of flipping the calendar to September. It might still be hot but you know the end is in sight!

Summer is just nothingness to me. It's hot, sticky and smelly. There's nothing to look forward to but more of the same. I have a phobia of wasps and can't peg the washing out without them attacking me leaving me to abandon the washing and run for the safety of indoors. Ditto leaving the windows open. I have to open them if it's too hot but spend the whole time panicking over what I'll do if a wasp gets in. The thought of a heat wave like last year fills me with dread. I'm hoping the next few months fly by, they never do though.

ssd · 02/06/2019 10:32

Totally agree with you op

IncyWincyGrownUp · 02/06/2019 10:32

I hate humidity, and it’s pretty impossible to get away from that where I live. I’m not at all looking forward to the inevitable increase in asthma medication when the heat ramps up properly, and it feels like I’m living life inside an enormous sodden sponge.

SystolicSyster · 02/06/2019 10:34

I'm having to wear a heat belt thing this morning, because my lower back is killing me, and heat helps more than pills, and it's sooo uncomfortable.

It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.
TheFirstOHN · 02/06/2019 10:36

The last couple of days have not been pleasant, but it looks like it might improve again from tomorrow.

Pinkvoid · 02/06/2019 10:36

I’m ok with the weather how it currently is. I’m up North so it’s not too bad atm. Last year I was pregnant and it was absolutely horrendous, I just laid on my bed in underwear with two fans blowing at me all evening Grin. DP used to get wet towels and put them all over me as well. It was hideous.

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 10:36

Where is everyone living where it is unbearably hot?

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 10:42

Where is everyone living where it is unbearably hot?

Obviously not where you areGrin

27 yesterday and it was quite warm enough thank you!

LucheroTena · 02/06/2019 10:47

It’s the humidity that’s the killer. We walked about quite happily in the dry 40c heat of Vegas. Over here I’m a dripping mess over 23c.
Yesterday we sat in a pub garden with other mugs eating in the 27c heat while swatting away flies, all had terrible sun headaches after.
The light evenings are nice and once the sun goes down it’s more bearable but we’re just not geared up for the heat we get in the SE. I’ve noticed it’s much more bearable in the West Country, Wales when we’ve managed to escape for a week or two in the summer.

TapasForTwo · 02/06/2019 11:06

I agree about the humidity. We had temperatures of 40 degrees in the Mojave Desert, but it was bearable because it was very dry. The same goes for cold. A dry cold is much more bearable. Our winters are always damp and grey which makes them so miserable. We have the heating on at the moment.

SapphireSeptember · 02/06/2019 12:57

It's much better here today (23C and cloudy) and is going to be late teens the rest of the week. It might also rain, which does wonders for my hayfever. (My eyes are bearing the brunt of it this year, I've had a sty under either eye and if my eyes get any redder I'm changing my name to Lady Vol-au-vent and insisting on everyone addressing me as the Dark Lady.)

The weather last year was just weird, not only was it super hot, at the start of the heatwave the nights were really cold (one night at the end of June I could see my breath outside!) but the humidity was really low for the UK, so although it felt sticky it didn't really get above 50% when normally it's way higher (average in the UK is 70-90%, sometimes can get up to 95%.) I think that's why we didn't get a lot of rain or thunderstorms.

Also, hello to everyone from last year's threads! (Is @FluffyDice still here?) As far as I'm concerned the 1st of June is the start of summer (according to the meteorological calendar, which is what I go with.)

My people!!

Baloonphobia · 02/06/2019 13:31

Stormy here (west Ireland). My heatwave fears may have been premature.

MustBeThin · 02/06/2019 13:34

I've found my people! 23 degrees here, raining but no breeze. House is still roating hot from yesterday.
I cant stand the sunny shit weather, I hate being hot, I despise summer clothes because they make me look like shit and I have rosacea so my face looks like a tomato if I get hot. Night times are awful, I cant sleep when its stuffy upstairs.
Can't wait got autumn its my favourite time of year.

resisterpersister · 02/06/2019 13:38

Ah, I've found my people!

I hate hot weather but everyone seems to love it so much I feel like I'm being a party pooper if I complain about it.

DS has inherited the dislike of heat gene, though, we can complain about it together at least!

MustBeThin · 02/06/2019 13:44

Why is it that everyone and their dog loves to comment about how lovely the weather is while I'm sweating my tits off too. Supermarket checkout worker "oh the weather is gorgeous today" everytime its sunny and warm. No its not its shit but obviously I don't voice my disapproval because if you say to anyone that you hate the heat they look at you like you're from another planet.

UrbanMage · 02/06/2019 13:45

London was grim yesterday. I was even hot at 10pm. I'm extremely fat, which doesn't help, but even DH who is skinny was hot.

mimibunz · 02/06/2019 13:48

I’m afraid I don’t understand this mindset. Do none of you care that it’s to be wearing a cardigan in June? Do you not get depressed over the endless grey skies? Don’t you feel energised by the warm sun stirring the vitamin D of your soul? Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 13:54

Mimi - no, no and no. The only part I like is the long hours of daylight.

resisterpersister · 02/06/2019 14:03

mimibunz I do like the feel of sun on my skin, but only if it's accompanied by a cool breeze.

When the rest of you are going on about how lovely it is in the sun, I'm feeling irritable and overheated. Uncomfortable and stuffy. Claustrophobic and like I just want to escape. My head is cloudy and distracted. I can't think straight. Plus. I can't see properly as the sun makes me squint so.

It's a horrible feeling. I understand that other people enjoy the heat. (DP is one). I just don't get the same feeling from it. I don't enjoy feeling hot - it's just really uncomfortable and oppressive.

Have you ever felt too hot? So hot it's uncomfortable? That's how I feel at, say 25 degrees, if there's no wind.

When Autumn finally arrived it's a blessed relief. I feel joy, I'm energised. The feeling of putting up with the heat passes. I feel I can think and be me again!

resisterpersister · 02/06/2019 14:05

It's not a mindset. It's a reaction to an unpleasant physical sensation.

DS is the same. He won't wear a jumper to school, year round. I've given up trying to make him. I can just about get him to carry his coat to school, which he will only actually wear if it's brass monkeys or raining.
