Do you spread Margerine or butter onto the toast before melting the cheese on it?
I do, apparently this is wrong.

No, not even I, a butter fiend, do that.

MegaClutterSlut · 01/01/2019 13:01

No and I don't know anyone else who does 😀 and yes its wrong

Honeyroar · 01/01/2019 13:01

No. There’s quite enough fat already. My husband butters his.

No, nothing between the bread and the cheese

ComtesseDeSpair · 01/01/2019 13:02

Yes, I find it helps the cheese melt better. And let’s face it, the extra fat content is pretty negligible if you’re already having the cheese anyway (seems to be something people say as to why they don’t butter.)

hidinginthenightgarden · 01/01/2019 13:02

No. Not needed.

dontticklethetoad · 01/01/2019 13:02

No. And I put butter on everything, but not cheese on toast.

Onceihadaname · 01/01/2019 13:02

I only ever came across this once in my life in a works canteen about 20 years ago.
TBF it was bloody delicious that way Grin
I never bother doing it that way myself though

BiggerBoat1 · 01/01/2019 13:02

No, I'm not an animal! Grin

hugoagogo · 01/01/2019 13:04

No, but now I want cheese on toast.

Fairylea · 01/01/2019 13:05

Yes. Lots of it.

But then I LOVE butter.

Qcng · 01/01/2019 13:06

To be fair I don't make it that often..

JillScarlet · 01/01/2019 13:25

No, would be too greasy / fatty.
Not needed.
And I do love butter.
Don’t like butter on bacon sandwiches, either.

isseywithcats · 01/01/2019 13:27

the grill on my oven is rubbish so i do cheese toasties in a grill machine so i have to put butter on the bread but its on the outside of the bread so it goes all brown and crispy and yummy

WanderingTrolley1 · 01/01/2019 13:27

Yes.

Runyoucleverboyandremember11 · 01/01/2019 13:28

Yes.i doGrinno shame here

Steakbakeislife · 01/01/2019 13:29

I do it's all dry and horrible otherwise.

TwitToWoo · 01/01/2019 13:31

God, that’s weird.

Yes, I do.

I was making some this morning for DS’s breakfast (nice with baked beans) and spread butter on the untoasted side before putting the cheese on. I wondered whether everyone puts butter on and considered asking on MN!

Spooooooooky.

A friend always fully toasts the bread, both sides, before putting the cheese on...and that really doesn’t work because the melted cheese just sort of slides off. Gross.

Luxembourgmama · 01/01/2019 13:32

Surely the cheese wouldn't stick then?

tryinganewname · 01/01/2019 13:32

I do!

LaBelleSausage · 01/01/2019 13:33

I have to put a layer of something between the bread and cheese.
Usually a thin spread of apple chutney or red onion chutney. Sometimes I’ll even use mayo.
Butter seems odd though Grin

anitagreen · 01/01/2019 13:33

I do I thought you was supposed to lol

MongerTruffle · 01/01/2019 13:34

How many of you butter bread before putting on jam, or even worse, Nutella?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 01/01/2019 13:48

Nooooooo and don’t get me started on bacon sandwich butterers!
Cheese melts then a thin layer of ketchup, mango chutney or a splash off Lee and Perins

Hazlenutpie · 01/01/2019 13:50

Hell no. Cheese on toast is the food of the gods and doesn't need butter.
