Do you spread Margerine or butter onto the toast before melting the cheese on it?
I do, apparently this is wrong.

This is not the thread to read when just embarking on Veganuary. Sad

littlestrawby · 02/01/2019 18:48

Yes! Helps it all stick together! I can't believe most people don't!

Bouledeneige · 02/01/2019 18:48

Not for cheese on toast. But if I'm making the even naughtier cheese dreams - cheese sandwich, fried in the pan, then I butter both outer sides to fry it.

Yes!!!! Extra dairy, all good for you 😉😂

PreseaCombatir · 02/01/2019 18:59

Ooh, yes ham. I use the really thick ham chunks, and black pepper. Yum

Obi73 · 02/01/2019 19:22

No but I do use marmite 😂

Hushabyelullaby · 02/01/2019 19:32

No, the cheese releases plenty enough grease when it melts. I DO however butter bacon sandwiches. The bread needs to be buttered and then the hot bacon put on so the butter melts.

Scottsy100 · 02/01/2019 19:57

Yes yes yes, always done bread in a toaster buttered one side and then melted under a grill, it really is the only way to get a decent bit of cheese on toast

Scottsy100 · 02/01/2019 19:59

And yes butter on bacon sarnies too, I don't like sauce so would be like chewing on cardboard otherwise

GemmeFatale · 02/01/2019 20:06

Marmite under the cheese and a poached egg on top.

Gorgeous

sanityisamyth · 02/01/2019 20:12

I have no idea whether I did or not, but I don't eat it now as it gives me a splitting headache that feels like someone is putting a screwdriver through my eyeballs. Definitely best avoided!

guineapig1 · 02/01/2019 20:26

I don’t put butter with cheese on toast or nutella or avocado or hummus

But I do put butter with jam and with bacon sandwiches. Marmite also gets a scraping of butter.

No idea who made these rules but I stick to them!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 02/01/2019 20:44

Toast both sides, scrape of mustard on the cheese side, then cheese, then grill until perfect.

longwayoff · 02/01/2019 20:49

I dont eat cheese much any more, headache, but am I the only person who toasted one side, turned it over, covered it with cheese and grilled? No extras.

Ohms11 · 02/01/2019 21:05

I put mayo under the cheese.... Gooey!

selepele · 02/01/2019 21:31

Use to but it doesn’t make it taste different to not
The only difference is more calories on your waist with butter

TheWiseWomansFear · 02/01/2019 21:57

Wouldn't it make the cheese fall off?

notsosureaboutthatthough · 02/01/2019 22:57

Yes I put the bread in the toaster, pop it, spread with butter, top with cheese (sliced) and grill til nearly burnt to melt the cheese.
Thought everyone buttered it.

AngelOfDeathNix · 02/01/2019 23:53

Toasted under the grill on one side, flipped over and then buttered and grated cheese put on and popped back under the grill..... delicious! Big debate of whether cheese should be grated on placed as slices here!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 03/01/2019 00:44

No never but now i want to try it 😬

iamapixiebutnotaniceone · 03/01/2019 01:02

You butter the edges where the cheese doesn't cover, stops the bread from getting burnt

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 03/01/2019 01:17

It's not wrong, just preference! I do put butter on, also wholegrain mustard.

mastertomsmum · 03/01/2019 10:30

No, but my mum does. She also puts sugar in sauces she uses tomatoes in. I think Delia sanctions the latter.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 03/01/2019 10:40

I often put a pinch of sugar in tomato sauces, I think it helps counteract the acidity.
