Do you spread Margerine or butter onto the toast before melting the cheese on it?
I do, apparently this is wrong.

I can't believe people don't do this?

BabyNameBook · 02/01/2019 00:26

Yes I do it's the best! DH doesn't he prefers it with butter but apparently it's too indulgent Hmm

Fantastiqueangel · 02/01/2019 00:32

Thin layer of mayo under the cheese is the best!

Christ no!

However bacon sandwiches, nutella, and peanut butter toast must be loaded with delicious melty butter.

payperview · 02/01/2019 00:40

Yes I do. I didn't realise that people existed who DON'T butter their toast before adding cheese.

RoseMartha · 02/01/2019 00:42

No

LostPlatypus · 02/01/2019 01:17

I put butter on every sandwich and type of toast. It's too dry for me if I don't. I'm veggie though so I haven't had a bacon sandwich in 20-odd years. (Butter on a veggie sausage sandwich is necessary though, as is tomato relish.)

PorpentinaScamander · 02/01/2019 01:19

Yes. And horseradish sauce.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 02/01/2019 01:21

i toast one side 'properly', lightly toast the other side, add butter, add cheese, whack it under the grill, add HP. this is the right way to make cheese on toast.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 02/01/2019 01:29

Some twat made me a bacon sandwich without butter once. Rank. Why would you do that?

Butter goes on bread and toast before anything. There isn’t anything I’d have on toast without butter first.

GobblersKnob · 02/01/2019 01:42

Yes, who the hell doesn't? That's just weird.

SpoonBlender · 02/01/2019 01:48

After laying on the cheese I'll butter the visible edges of the toast, which would otherwise get carbonised while toasting the cheese. Bit too much grease otherwise!

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/01/2019 04:34

I never butter bacon sandwiches but I do put lots of brown sauce in and dip the bread in the frying pan fat, so plenty of taste/moisture.

However, what I hate is that sandwich shops seem to 'butter' them as standard, and you just know that 90% of the time it is nasty cheap catering margarine and not one person who works in a sandwich shop seems to understand that this is not actually butter. But I have sandwich shop bacon sandwiches so rarely that I always forget this so always forget to ask for 'no butter' and them am disappointed when it is there.

PhilomenaNewYearButterfly · 02/01/2019 04:42

No.

whatamessitallis · 02/01/2019 11:29

A friend always fully toasts the bread, both sides, before putting the cheese on

I toast both sides and I use butter except if I'm in a rush.

I thought it was the usual way to do it!

DH doesn't toast one side. I thought he was the weird one for doing this!

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/01/2019 11:40

I toast one side of the bread under the grill, turn over the toast, put cheese on the untoasted side and then grill until the cheese has melted.

I thought that was the usual way to do it.

Dragonlight · 02/01/2019 11:46

Yes! How else do you achieve that extra deliciousness?

MorningsEleven · 02/01/2019 12:09

I never butter bacon sandwiches but I do put lots of brown sauce in and dip the bread in the frying pan fat, so plenty of taste/moisture

It's the way that the bread goes slightly crispy from the heat of the pan and has all that bacon flavour that makes it so good.

I might become an ex vegetarian if I keep thinking about this.

whatamessitallis · 02/01/2019 12:17

Putting cheese on the untoasted side just seems wrong to me! I had no idea people even did this till I saw DH doing it and even then I thought it was something weird he did!

I toast one side, lightly toast the other side, then butter and add cheese.

PollyFlinderz · 02/01/2019 12:34

Butter even on toast before adding peanut butter.

PollyFlinderz · 02/01/2019 12:35

Butter goes on bread and toast before anything. There isn’t anything I’d have on toast without butter first

Hear Hear.

pancaketosser · 02/01/2019 12:38

For cheese on toast, I toast both sides but don't use butter. I don't like soggy toast though. It needs to crunch.

DCs will only eat the 'warmed bread' style of toast [boak]

DontCallMeCharlotte · 02/01/2019 12:50

I've known some animal actually put butter on a BACON sandwich!!!!!

Yep. I'm that animal. And I'm clearly not alone.

And, of course, I butter cheese on toast.

ralphi · 02/01/2019 12:54

I used to think that butter under the cheese was just too much fat, but have now started to use butter, it tastes much better, and the melt is better too. (I have always dabbed cheese on toast with kitchen roll to absorb the melted fat, but accept that this is a deeply strange habbit. )

weasle · 02/01/2019 13:18

No butter. I put a layer of whole grain mustard under the cheese then melt it. Might have it for lunch!
