I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

Ok. I get it now. 😃

SoupDragon · 06/01/2019 15:59

but my iPhone diary and Notes facility does all this and more, in the fraction of the time!

You must have a different iPhone diary and notes facility than I do then because mine don't allow me to make a layout tailored to my needs and with everything in one place. What app are you using?

Knittink · 06/01/2019 16:38

Ok. I get it now.

Smile I get why lots of people don't get it though! It's hard at first to see past the 'it's just a notebook Confused' thing. And then when you look online and see the o.t.t artsy stuff and people getting very excited about tracking all kinds of trivial or weird stuff...

For me, what makes it so good is that it's everything, all in one place, in a very physical, visual way. And there really is no limit to what that 'everything' consists of, because there is no set format to fit things into.

Hohocabbage · 06/01/2019 16:51

There is no answer to the horror of “what if I lose my bujo given it contains my entire life”. I suppose you could take a picture of every page as a back up - this seems a bit extreme!

ILoveChristmasLights · 06/01/2019 17:38

BuJo wanker here too!

So much of a wanker than NONE of the eleventy billon notebooks on the market will do.

Still, silver lining is that I got my 10,000 steps in trawling the shops (again) for one I’m happy with 🤣

It’s a complicated set of requirements, just shake your head at me and carry on past my post 🤣😂

(I’m a long term BJW, just need a change up this year and can’t find what I want).

MulticolourMophead · 06/01/2019 18:17

I never got into doing bujo for my personal stuff. I now keep a notebook at work and use bujo for just my work stuff, it works really well for that. The notebook is bigger than A5, but not quite A4, it's a comfortable size, wirebound (so opens flat) and has an elastic band to keep it closed.

Meanwhile I just have a small diary in my bag for personal stuff. If I were to try again for personal stuff, then I'd use a small notebook, like an A6.

A6 is certainly doable, as I'd just modify the standard format to fit. EG, writing the month dates across 2 pages, instead of trying to cram it onto one page in an A5 book.

Knittink · 06/01/2019 20:43

ILoveChristmasLights - have you looked at Nuuna notebooks? People seem to love those. Or... Hobonichi? They aren't strictly suitable for Bujo though, and are no good if you do lots of collections. And they cost a fortune!

Bluebellsarebells · 06/01/2019 23:00

Do any of use your bujo for traditional diary entries? As in your thoughts and feelings? Just writing to get a problem out so you can work through it?
I feel like it would be helpful to me, I've not started yet but I feel like my head is constantly full of thoughts.
Might feel like a strange thing to do.
I feel self conscious, although I know no one could get hold of it to read, unless I die.

Hohocabbage · 06/01/2019 23:14

So, have just cleared out my desk which was so stuffed with bank statements it couldn’t shut (thanks Marie Kondo on Netflix!) and then was able to sit with a coffee and write our next week’s plan. Feel very organised Smile- hope can keep it up once back at work Sad

AllGoodDogs · 06/01/2019 23:43

Has anyone used a filofax notebook? They look like the best of both worlds - variety of blank pages for diary, notes, grid pages etc, but flexible in that you can add pages and move them around.

Hohocabbage · 06/01/2019 23:50

I think you could make a good system with a Filofax but I don’t think it would be a bullet journal. I’m not convinced it has the simplicity/flexibility - but I have not tried one! (well not since one I had in the 1980s!)

AllGoodDogs · 06/01/2019 23:52

This isn't a normal filofax setup hoho it's a clipbook which I've not seen before.

HalloumiGus · 07/01/2019 00:04

Have spent several hours today on various Bujo spreads. Don't feel remotely guilty though because I have everything else ready for tomorrow thanks to Bujo reminders including things to post and clothes to return.

Hohocabbage · 07/01/2019 00:16

My 1980s Filofax was a mini ring binder, is that different to a clip book?

AllGoodDogs · 07/01/2019 00:18

Not sure, the link is in my post there ^

MinorProphet · 07/01/2019 07:22

AllGoodDogs I am setting up a filofax. I know it isn't a bujo but I am planning on incorporating some of the things I've learned on these threads. I'm enjoying the filofax / planner community on Insta.

differentnameforthis · 07/01/2019 07:47

@Kaybush once again, no need for you to hang around then, is there??

2019HereWeCome · 07/01/2019 09:43

I wonder if this is similar to something I've been doing for years?

I have a small, a5 notebook (a Moleskine that dh got from work) and, working from the front, I do a week to page thing like an ordinary diary where I write down birthdays, work bookings (none yet for February!), direct debit dates and monies coming in along with amounts, appointments, deadlines for my hobby, school dates and term times and anything else I need to remember.

Working from the back, I write down my budget as a list of expenditure vs income as well as debt forecasts (we should be debt-free by 2023!) and targets. I have also written down our childcare fees for each month up the summer holidays.

I don't have the other plans and lists mentioned on here because I just don't do them. I do housework as and when, I use a period tracker app, I don't plan my future reading or exercise, dh & I do our shopping lists together on post-it notes. I think if I kept as many lists as on here I'd end up feeling bogged down with things to do!

This is a page from my notebook (one where there's not as much private info that I need to block out!)

Any bujo wankers still around ?
PenelopeFlintstone · 07/01/2019 10:54

@Kaybush once again, no need for you to hang around then, is there??

A bit late for this, differentnameforthis? I think the drama's over and we're all friends again now. This isn't AIBU

TimeIhadaNameChange · 07/01/2019 11:03

I restarted mine at the new year, thanks to this thread. I started it a few times a couple of years ago, but lasted a month each time. I've simplified things this time but continued in the old notebook (since it was expensive) and will hopefully fill the whole thing this time.

So far I have a weight and exercise tracker, word count tracker for my thesis and a period tracker (which I started at the start of last year, and copied my dates over, to give me a bigger picture). I've also started a book list, and may include films as well.

daisychicken · 07/01/2019 11:26

@AllGoodDogs I use a filofax clipbook as a bullet journal (as I mentioned further up the thread) and if you look on IG at #filofaxbujo and similar, you will see others use filofaxes and the clipbook. It works for me really well and though I prefer a simple version of the bullet journal, many others use the decorative version with lots of trackers etc. So yes, imo filofaxes and the filofax clipbook will work! 😁

daisychicken · 07/01/2019 11:27

That was supposed to be a Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/01/2019 17:21

@2019HereWeCome
As a BuJo takes the form you need it to have, I would call yours a bullet journal.

StoorieHoose · 07/01/2019 18:14

Thanks to this thread I have set up a BuJo in my Filofax Clipbook. I stopped using it as it doesn’t have a closure and again thanks to this thread I have hacked it and added an elastic to it to keep it closed (and now am picking the superglue off my fingers :)

Happy days

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/01/2019 20:28

I have set up a BuJo in my Filofax Clipbook

Why does this sound like a euphemism?
