I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

I bought the derwent one. Comes with four pens and an elastic holder for them. Dot grid book with 3 ribbon markers. It seems fine but time will tell.

What pens are best to use? Ideally with minimum show through onto next page.

Thanks.

QuilliamCakespeare · 29/12/2018 22:56

Yes! I'm pretty new to it but having somewhere to write down everything in my head is really helpful.

I'm not religious about mine but so far I have:

Monthly to do list
2019 goals (linked to above)
Habit / mood tracker
Book tracker
Christmas/birthday present pages

Iggi999 · 29/12/2018 23:02

I’ve been a wanker for about four years now. Just about to start my latest one.

Highlowpo · 29/12/2018 23:07

I started my first one today! I watched a load of YouTube videos and found that helpful. I'm not arty at all and mine is very simple but I've really enjoyed it so far! I recommend watching YouTube start up videos.

HumourlessFeminist · 29/12/2018 23:12

Oh, I wonder about this.

sackrifice · 29/12/2018 23:16

OMG Rufus, is that really you?

I am a BuJo wanker and have been for years.

Mine is utilitarian, no scribbles or nonsense, just weekly spreads, and monthly calendar with a new page if I need a new topic.

sackrifice · 29/12/2018 23:18

Your first pages should always be an index, then a forward planner, then a monthly page and then go in for the weekly spread and take it from there.

babysharkah · 29/12/2018 23:25

It's just fancy post it's all in one place, I don't get the angst.

soloula · 29/12/2018 23:34

Another bujo wanker checking in. I'm just about to start my third one. I love it. I feel so much more on top of things when I use my bullet journal. I've been watching YouTube videos all weekend as I'm really tempted to step out my comfort zone and try a different style of journaling, a bit more art journally. I feel comfortable enough to go for it now as I know if it doesn't work out, it doesn't matter. I'll just go back to my old system on the next pages. That's the beauty of it.

FusionChefGeoff · 30/12/2018 09:01

Yes, having read this I AM going to start a new one. I begrudgingly just set up weekly to dos in a replacement book but this has inspired me to do it properly again.

I did find it very useful but not sure exactly how I can protect against losing it again. I guess putting contact details in it may encourage it to be returned if found. I don't think the people I spoke to in Aldi had any concept of how important it was!!

How do you track birthdays? Sep page for dates and present ideas / lists or put dates In monthly / weekly planners?

SoupDragon · 30/12/2018 09:06

Your first pages should always be...

Whatever you want them to be andwhatever works for you.

Barbaraanne22 · 30/12/2018 09:27

Me too! I love page decorating, but I'm not artistic, so mine is coloured lines and borders, stickers and pretty washi tape.
I also use coloured frixion pens, then I can rub it out.
I always buy cheap but nice notebooks from tkmaxx. I prefer A5 as I can fit it only handbag but I did try an A4 and loved the space it gave me.

sackrifice · 30/12/2018 09:28

Well yes but the OP is having trouble starting...so she needs to just start.

planespotting · 30/12/2018 09:28

Me!!!
I have my new one ready but scared to use it

BatCakes · 30/12/2018 09:29

Thanks for answering my questions. Might give it a go!

Another question - this index at the start. How on earth do you know you've left enough space for it? Maybe I want to track water, exercise, dates, work, etc etc - what happens if I run out of space

I realise this is a really ridiculous question

planespotting · 30/12/2018 09:29

@Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Ironing? Shock

planespotting · 30/12/2018 09:31

Bujo is not for everyone

If you get it and love it, you do.

If you don't, then you don't.

But don't hate the Bujo

MillieMoodle · 30/12/2018 09:31

I bought my first notebook and some coloured pens yesterday ready for starting one in 2019.

I'm not really sure how the diary element will work yet but looking forward to having lists all in one place - I want to watch lots of films and read lots of books this year. Also want to log water intake and have a mood tracker. Have got loads of ideas from Pinterest.

sackrifice · 30/12/2018 09:33

I count the pages [the website usually has it listed how many pages the notebook has if it isn't on the notebook itself], and make sure each page can have a line of its own. Sometimes i just leave the first two leaves just for the index and start the forward planner on page 5.

If a page has two different things on it, both go on the index line.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 30/12/2018 09:38

I leave about 5 pages for the index, I am very slack about filling it in though, mine is only done up until about July, I have three ribbon markers for most used pages though. No decoration, coloured ink, washi tape etc for me, it's not just can't be bothered, I actually dislike the idea, I want mine business-like. I want mine to be sturdy and last all year so I use A5 Moleskine books. I don't take it everywhere, its too heavy and bulky but it comes to work and on any overnight stays.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 30/12/2018 09:39

Numbering all the pages at the start is a good idea if you want to make indexing easier, looks more uniform that way too.

Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 30/12/2018 09:42

Thanks for the tips! I was reading about this on the other thread and thought it sounded great so have started my own one but not sure it’s quite in the ‘correct style’. I work in a school so everything in my life works around half terms which makes it different to the monthly/weekly ones.

I felt better straight away writing a list of jobs to achieve by February half term alone

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/12/2018 09:44

I am back in, started a new book in November (book handmade by my DN) with a digital short version back up (google calender).

It is in no way pretty or artistic, but I try to keep in legible. I have made one change: I keep all the lists (books to read and to buy, gift ideas, important unchangeable information etc.) together at the back of the book.

As for the index:
you write: habit tracker and put all the page numbers that contain this specific content after the entry (habit tracker - p. 5, 15 18, 22 etc. or to do lists january - p. 2, 6, 12)

Freshprincess · 30/12/2018 09:45

Me! As much as I love Browsing pinterest for ideas, mine is actually pretty boring and functional.

I can't decide whether to start a new one this year or use up my old one. Especially as the puriple Leuchtturm of my dreams is currently £17 on amazon Shock
