I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

Schaden would you like to see my weekly spread?

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 07/01/2019 20:45

I’ve never heard of this before but I do love writing in a journal. Normally I don’t use it as productive as this method seems,

I’m into computers and technology but I’ve tried multiple times to journal on a device and I can never get into it.

This thread has definitely inspired me to revise the way I write in my journal a little bit.

MinorProphet · 07/01/2019 21:29

I used to think I'd be pointlessly duplicating effort by doing electronic and paper.... But honestly I think it will work brilliantly.

bumblingbovine49 · 07/01/2019 22:11

I have started a rough one, using pencil in a an old lined note book.

I need daily to do.lists otherwise even weekly really ones overwhelm me and I never know where to start but I also like an overview . So I have a future log and a weekly spread. Then I transfer specifics tasks from these to my daily task list.

I still use Google calendar for events at work and a home one shsred with DH. I transfer the date to the journal every week

ILoveChristmasLights · 07/01/2019 22:22

knittin. Yes. I’ve considered both of those. I think the Nub would probably be good, but I’m a bit off a fusspot and like to ‘feel’ them before buying them and check out the paper. If they were cheaper I’d just order one as it’ll get used for something, but it’s £30 for the one I like. I’d pay that for one if it was what I was looking for, but it’s a lot to pay for a notebook if it just gets used for whatever. (I can only find them online, none of the paperchase near me stock them and I don’t have time to get into London at the minute).

Do any of you use your journal for meal planning? Any tips? I mean nice simple planning rather than Pinterest style! Thanks Smile

2019HereWeCome · 08/01/2019 01:02

Hohocabbage Would this kind of layout work in your journal?

I don't keep it in my diary thing because I'm not the only one who cooks or does the shopping so our meal plans are in a poly pocket taped to the kitchen wall. We have 5 or 6 for each season and rotate them as necessary. There is only one meal per day because we just take sarnies to work and have something small on a weekend lunch but of course more columns could be added for more meals. We just write our shopping lists on post-it notes that we stick underneath but they could be added to a box drawn below the table if you're writing it in a journal.

bumblingbovine yes, that is basically what I intend to do. Keep things in the electronic formats but transfer monthly, weekly, daily, so my brain has a better grasp of what I am doing.

hobocabbage I have started a spreadsheet for meal planning and intend to transfer across to written as an when.

Hello all, I'm very new to this, but have just splashed out and bought a beautiful Nordic blue Leuchtturm1917, with 3 bookmarks! I've plucked up the courage to put my name and contact details in the front, but that's as far as I've got. I don't have an artistic bone in my body, this was diagnosed by my high school art teacher, so it must be true! 😁 I'm thinking I would like to get hold of some stencils to help me make nice neat calendars, an annual one and then monthly and weekly. I don't expect mine will be pretty, but I need it to be neat and practical, or I will hate it and not use it. Can anyone recommend any calendar stencils?

MulticolourMophead · 08/01/2019 08:38

I use a whiteboard for meal planning, as the DCs get involved too. (DS does a great curry 😁)

I don't tend to put shopping notes into my journal.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 08/01/2019 09:59

I’ve just set mine up for the year. I love the idea of having it all in one place.

First time using this method but it looks promising. Smile

Efferlunt · 08/01/2019 10:57

I have a page at the front for the key meals we eat and who likes what along with notes of key ingredients to add to the standard weekly shop. I have a space for a weekly menu in my weekly spread, but also have the same info on a weekly menu on the door of the fridge so our nanny knows what to cook and DH doesn’t start randomly using stuff we need for tomorrow’s dinner etc.

radioactiveimagination · 08/01/2019 11:03

Hi, new here. I am seriously considering starting a bullet journal and have ordered a notebook but I'm not sure about what pens to use. Any recommendations? Coloured ones would be good as want it to have a bit of visual appeal, although I won't have time to make each page a work of art! Also, what the heck is washi tape used for?

Knittink · 08/01/2019 12:49

Do any of you use your journal for meal planning?

I have a master shopping list which I use to make my weekly shopping list. Then I just list my dinners for the week on my weekly spread page. I have sometimes also had a 'recipes to try' page, where I note down recipes I've seen online, in magazines or books.

Hohocabbage · 08/01/2019 19:38

Thanks for all the menu suggestions! 2019herewecome am loving the “nice bread” on your planner - shouldn’t that be “naice” though!
Meals are a real struggle here with two dc who are equally fussy but about different things - I remember being far more relaxed when I used to have the week planned in advance. I though even if I had lists of “fail safe” meals that we all like in the journal, would give me something to juggle. I’m sure in olden times there was a bujo wanker who did meals on post its inside her journal.

Hohocabbage · 08/01/2019 19:39

Knittink I’m loving that book by the way, thanks!!

AllGoodDogs · 08/01/2019 19:51

radioactive I use coloured fineliners in mine to add some detail. WH Smiths do their own brand which I like, also the Stabilo. 88 and Staedtler ones which are pricier but really nice to write and colour with, less "scratchy" IMO than the WHS ones.

MulticolourMophead · 08/01/2019 19:57

I happen to be a fountain pen wanker. I have 4, all with different colour inks 😁😁😁😁

MinorProphet · 08/01/2019 20:10

I was almost in tears yesterday because my proper planner hasn't come yet. I think I might be displacing my (well-founded) anxiety slightly.

Anyway, I have started putting post it notes in my temporary diary thing, one for each child and the things I need them to do or I need to talk to them about. They are 12 and 14 and if I need to catch up with them about what they plan to do at the weekend or about that sports team or whatever, I have to write it down or I will forget. Plus I put chores on there for them. I am a genius.

MinorProphet · 08/01/2019 21:04

(not anxious about my planner btw... I am anxious about other things... Just in case you thought I was going a bit too far)

HalloumiGus · 08/01/2019 21:24

For newbies (and experienced Bujo-ers) before you start buying up all the pens can I recommend the Ryder Carroll book on Kindle? It's only £2.99 and it's actually really interesting reading. I started Bujoing a couple of years ago after watching his video and reading a couple of blog posts. Because it's quite a simple system day to day I thought that was all I needed to know but there's a lot more in the book about why it's more effective than using apps and how to use it more reflectively for personal insight and goal setting rather than just reactively responding to day to day life. It's well worth a read.

He actually cautions against all the movie trackers, time wasters etc to use it in a more time efficient way - unless of course you love all that stuff. I like seeing the back to basics approach but explained in more detail if that doesn't seem like a contradiction!

MinorProphet · 09/01/2019 11:33

I have downloaded his book, thanks so much.

My filofax arrived today. I am so excited.

HundredMileStare · 09/01/2019 12:00

Does anyone have any tips for Filofax bujos?

I have been loving my personal one so much this week and I've taken great pleasure in writing down everything that's constantly buzzing in my head.

I want to replicate this at work but I'm thinking ideally I'd like to be able to throw away pages that are N/A while keeping the important ones, and do reshuffles etc. Also I can see how doing personalised to do lists/ monthly/ weekly spreads on excel then printing would poss be something I could do on a lunch break?

Off to stalk insta for inspo Grin I've become a planning addict haha

MinorProphet · 09/01/2019 12:43

The reason I'm using a filofax is because I tried the proper bujo method and HATED the index system. I just want to have sections where things naturally go and I can add pages and shuffle things around. That's the main reason. Also, I wanted a proper already written calendar. I thought I would use the paper instead of electronic diaries but I plan to use both.

MinorProphet · 09/01/2019 12:44

So, um, no tips yet but I'll set mine up this afternoon.
