Have you turned your heating back on yet?

I think ours has been off since the beginning of May and we are trying to hold off turning it back on as long as we can but it's getting pretty chilly now so I don't think it'll be much longer!

@Praisebe

It costs you 10p per day to haveyour central heating on high and all day?

I doubt tht very much

Praisebe · 25/09/2018 14:00

Yes it does. We're with Bulb energy also it actually costs more switching your heating on and off constantly because the majority of the energy is used actually heating them back up to full temperature which costs loads and wastes a lot of energy

Spudlet · 25/09/2018 14:08

Our thermostat is at 17, and the radiators have been warm the last few mornings. We've had the fire lit once, too, and I am angling for a repeat this evening. We try to be frugal as we're on oil, and it's bloody expensive at the moment - fortunately we have a good supply of firewood for when it gets colder.

I ran out of the door after ds in my dressing gown this morning, and it was a bit of a shock to the system! It's certainly autumn here now.

Noboozeforme · 25/09/2018 14:27

Can't afford heating outside of December, January and February. Plus I've still got my windows open.

Notsohorriblehistory · 25/09/2018 14:31

@praisebe
I’m with bulb
You pay £3 a month to have your central heating on constantly and high?

Bulloxs you do! Check your bill

safariboot · 25/09/2018 14:34

Yes, went on a couple days ago when the inside temperature really seemed to drop.

DIYdufus · 25/09/2018 14:38

Notsohorriblehistory - contract was renewed in July, so I'd assumed I could book service August.... but, no.... Anyone else had this issue with British Gas HomeCare Service contracts?

theboxofdelights · 25/09/2018 18:21

I moved house at the beginning of April and set up the service contract to take effect on the day of completion. The first appointment they had available was two months later but they would have responded to a problem from day 1.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/09/2018 20:38

"Putting jumpers/socks/blankets on doesn't warm the air so heating is needed once it gets cold."

I agree. Some people just don't get it do they.

Rockbird · 25/09/2018 20:47

It went on tonight for a little while because the kittens are in the front room at the moment and it was chilly in there for them this evening. If we didn't have them it wouldn't have gone on yet. None of us really feel the cold too much and we much prefer blankets when we do. But I couldn't let the new cats freeze!

AgathaRaisinsCat · 25/09/2018 20:56

Towel rails going on because I don't want damp, cold towels but other than that I'm going to try and hold off until November.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2018 21:15

The thing is if I put the heating on I'll find I'm too hot in bed anyway

granadagirl · 25/09/2018 21:35

Ours as been on for last 2 weeks controlled my room thermostat
Set at 21 so if it drops it comes on to reach that temp till we go to bed then turn it down to 19

I bloody hate being cold, we pay £125 month gas & elec

LoniceraJaponica · 25/09/2018 22:10

"The thing is if I put the heating on I'll find I'm too hot in bed anyway"

But who has the heating on at night? We only ever have it on at night at a low temperature when it is several degrees below zero, and that is only to prevent the pipes from freezing.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2018 22:14

No I don't have it on at night that's not what I mean. I mean if it's been on and I turn it off it still keeps the warm temperature and I'm too hot at night then

LoniceraJaponica · 25/09/2018 22:15

Our heating goes off a couple of hours before we go to bed. If the bedroom window is open while we are downstairs it cools down very quickly.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2018 22:21

In general this house does keep the temperature quite well and I can't open the windows any more than a little amount cos I've got indoor cats!

cricketmum84 · 25/09/2018 22:58

Ugh I'm just sick of these changing temps!! At work I'm literally dying of heatstroke (because everyone is soft as shite and has the heat turned up) yet as soon as I'm home I'm like a bloody ice block and the husband is still saying no to the heating Cos the living room temp hasn't dropped under 26 bastard degrees.

I'm gonna shove that thermometer where the sun doesn't shine if he says the same tomorrow!!!

cricketmum84 · 25/09/2018 22:59

*16 not 26. Sorry my fingers are too cold to type...

AlexaAmbidextra · 26/09/2018 03:58

I can’t imagine living with a man who wouldn’t ‘let me’ have the heating on and would rather I was cold and miserable in my own home. I’d tell him to get to fuck.

KarlDilkington · 26/09/2018 04:36

Amen to that, Alexa

ISendNoComplimentsToYourMother · 26/09/2018 07:14

Couldn’t agree more Alexa.

Joints are not good this morning so I’m in bed with electric blanket & dh turned heating up to 23 before he left for work so that I’d be ok when I eventually get up.

delilahbucket · 26/09/2018 07:37

I would get a new thermometer cricketmum84. Our house is THE warmest house, but it only goes up to or over 26 on a very hot day. I doubt very much it is 26 degrees in yours at this time of year. You wouldn't be so cold indoors if it was that warm.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2018 07:37

I have the heating on at night, winter duvet and thermals.
I tried leaving it off but was waking up when the air got cold.

Chocolateismyvice · 26/09/2018 08:16

We've had it on a little here and there, but not consistently yet. I think DP would have it on constantly from 1st September! It just doesn't feel cold enough yet. Plus, I HATE the heating on all the time, it makes me feel like I'm suffocating and struggling for air (sounds dramatic, but that's the way it feels). It just feels stifling. I'd rather just put an extra layer on right now. We'll definitely start putting it on in the mornings in the next few weeks though.

DP hates me coz I also open to the winosi as soon as we're up, and leave them open most of the day Grin
