Have you turned your heating back on yet?

I think ours has been off since the beginning of May and we are trying to hold off turning it back on as long as we can but it's getting pretty chilly now so I don't think it'll be much longer!

Intermittent bursts here. But I have put my brushed cotton bedding on tonight.

spugzbunny · 23/09/2018 23:30

I had it on last night but I try to hold off until November if I can!

Lauren0rder · 23/09/2018 23:31

It’s going to be hotter this week.

We don’t put the heating on until November otherwise it’s a fortune over Winter.

Meet0nTheIedge · 23/09/2018 23:35

We put ours on manually this evening to get a load of wet shoes dry, but normally the thermostat is set to 18 during the mornings and evenings (12 the rest of the time) and it hasn't come on by itself at all yet. The house has been around 18-20 this last week so quite warm even without the heating on, but then it has stayed fairly warm down here in the SE, I only got a coat out for the first time this morning and that was for rain not cold.

BuggersMuddle · 23/09/2018 23:36

If you’re skint or have storage heaters, I get the reticence. Otherwise, competitive shivering is a bit Hmm

I’m in Scotland and have a Nest. If the house drops below 21 degrees when we’re in and awake, it goes on. Night time and not in is obviously lower. It’s been switching on most days for the last couple of weeks I reckon (intermittently). If it’s unseasonably warm, it’ll shut off.

LoniceraJaponica · 23/09/2018 23:53

Grin @ "competitive shivering"

delphguelph · 23/09/2018 23:58

Not cold enough yet. It'll be on next week I reckon.

Love the autumn.

JustBeingJobless · 24/09/2018 00:04

My thermostat is set at 17 degrees all year round (off altogether overnight though as I can’t stand being hot at night) and it’s clicked in a few times over the last week. I pay a set amount every month so build up a surplus over summer so as I don’t have to worry too much about winter bills.

UnrelentingFruitScoffer · 24/09/2018 00:05

Just put on a jumper. It’s not cold yet !

Maybeicanhelp · 24/09/2018 00:08

No.

JeezYouLoon · 24/09/2018 00:19

No, the thermostat is saying 18 degrees and it's supposed to be warm next week. We still have the summer duvets on & we're in tropical North Yorkshire.

Ours goes off in April and usually back on at some point in October. Blankets are out for the sofa for snuggling if needed Wink

thedoctorwillseeyounow · 24/09/2018 00:30

Yes! And winter duvet on. I am on the North Yorkshire Coast. It is 4 degrees outside tonight.

AnneElliott · 24/09/2018 00:30

No, I try not to turn it on until the clocks go back. Have extra blankets and hot water bottles if needed.

ilovesooty · 24/09/2018 01:53

Once briefly last week. I don't think it's cold enough. Until earlier this year I'd lived for years in a freezing rental house with no central heating and I don't really feel the cold.

Proseccoagain · 24/09/2018 06:54

Have given in, it's gone on this morning!

NancyJoan · 24/09/2018 06:56

It’s freezing this morning!! Mine will be going on when I go downstairs.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/09/2018 07:01

We've had it on a couple of times when the lounge has dropped below 18 degrees in the last week. It's an 'as and when' approach for now, and as sunshine is forecast this week, the lounge should stay warm enough. I can see it going on timer properly as soon as October starts.

As much as it would be nice to wait until later in the year, we're on the breezy NW coast, which makes our Victorian semi rather chilly at times. And I refuse to freeze in my own home!

pilates · 24/09/2018 07:02

It went on yesterday for a few hours (until DH spotted it and turned it off)

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 24/09/2018 07:07

I was freezing last night so I've put it on for an hour this morning so we can get dressed in comfort. This morning's job is to dig out the Autumn duvet from the loft.

Meet0nTheIedge · 24/09/2018 07:11

Outs has kicked in this morning, but it is nippy outside. Clear skies and a proper autumn chill, lovely after a weekend of rain.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 24/09/2018 07:16

I hate the stuffy dryness of a house with red hot radiators. Prefer to put a few layers on, unless it's really freezing.

Greycat11 · 24/09/2018 07:19

Have put ours on for a bit this morning to take the chill off. First time have felt the need.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/09/2018 07:22

Not yet, we have moved from a house we here we had it in all year round, old house, ill DH, to a home use with double glazing and insulation, I think we may have toughened up well! It will go on soon though to keep DH warm but at the moment he is OK

ISendNoComplimentsToYourMother · 24/09/2018 07:26

We know when to put ours on judging by how stiff I get. RA. It went on a couple of weeks ago. But I’ve had electric under & over blankets in use before that. My joints are worth more to me moving than not!

3WildOnes · 24/09/2018 07:29

I never turn my heating off. Thermostat is set to different temperatures throughout the day. 14 overnight and 20 in the mornings and evenings, 16 in between. I don’t think it has clicked on yet. Occasionally in the winter i turn it up higher for a short while.
