You've only got space for 2 of 3: washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Which 2 would you have?

We've only got space for 2 appliances. Currently have a washing machine and dishwasher but keep thinking we would like a tumble dryer.

Would you rather keep the dishwasher, or swap for a tumble dryer?

Get a washer-dryer and a dishwasher.

SneakyGremlins · 18/09/2018 13:03

I have a washer and a dryer Smile

DorothyGarrod · 18/09/2018 13:03

Washing machine and dishwasher

MaxPepsi · 18/09/2018 13:04

If I couldn't get a combi machine id have a washer and dish washer.

Changenameday · 18/09/2018 13:04

Can you get a condenser dryer and put it somewhere other than the kitchen?

We’ve got all three but tumbler is in the garage

peachjuice · 18/09/2018 13:05

No room elsewhere and I've heard bad things about washer dryers.

If anyone can recommend a washer dryer I would be very interested!

My dryer is in the garage because I do t have space in the house. If I could only keep 2 i’d opt for washer and dryer, I hate having wet washing hanging around the house in winter.

crumpet · 18/09/2018 13:05

Tumble dryer comes bottom of the list

villainousbroodmare · 18/09/2018 13:05

I would never want to be without a dishwasher, given the choice. Not only does it do its job well, but it's economical on water and energy, and having one means that the kitchen always looks pretty tidy.

ohtheholidays · 18/09/2018 13:06

A washing machine and tumble dryer.

There's 7 of us and the tumble dryer is a god send when the weather is bad,I've never had a dishwasher and don't want one.

Tika77 · 18/09/2018 13:06

Washing machine and dishwasher. You can always get a heated clothes dryer or a dehumidifier for drying clothes in rainy weather.
I’m assuming it’s for a family. If only 2 people I probably wouldn’t keep the dishwasher.

mintich · 18/09/2018 13:07

Washing machine and dishwasher

formerbabe · 18/09/2018 13:07

I have a washing machine and a dishwasher. I'm fine to forego a tumble dryer.

maxelly · 18/09/2018 13:08

Washing machine and dishwasher definitely, those are the non negotiables for me, if you can't have or don't want a washer-dryer? We don't have a dryer currently but I have a good heated airer and dehumidifier set-up for drying clothes in winter - I would recommend particularly if you have toddlers or babies or otherwise lots of laundry! Also choose a washing machine with a good powerful spin cycle and make use of it as I find doing an extra spin cycle does mean the clothes come out of the washer a bit less damp...

aperolspritzplease · 18/09/2018 13:08

Washer and dishwasher. That's what I have - absolutley no space for a tumble dryer. I wouldn't be without the dishwasher!

Raspberry88 · 18/09/2018 13:10

Lots of washer dryers aren't very good but the Miele one is excellent.

Secretmystery · 18/09/2018 13:11

Washing machine and tumble dryer. Definitely.

AornisHades · 18/09/2018 13:12

Washer and tumble dryer for me. We managed without a dishwasher quite happily for years and it's nice to have one but it would be the first to go.

MadisonAvenue · 18/09/2018 13:12

Washing machine and dishwasher. There's no way I could be without my dishwasher, and I had a washer dryer up until two years ago but the dryer was useless and was seldom used so when the whole unit needed replacing we just went with a washing machine.

NoSquirrels · 18/09/2018 13:13

Washing machine & dishwasher [gavel]

I have lived family life without a dishwasher and it is MISERABLE. Hanging laundry is not half as bad.

Honeywort · 18/09/2018 13:14

When we were renting we had a tumble dryer in the garage. I rarely used it because it was a faff to get to - except for towels and bed linen (when weather wasn’t good enough for bed linen to line dry). However, I think it was worth it, just for those two things. So have a think about whether your dryer could go elsewhere

swampytiggaa · 18/09/2018 13:15

Washing machine and tumble dryer. Never had a dishwasher don’t really see the need tbh.

AdaColeman · 18/09/2018 13:16

Dishwasher and washer would be my choice. I've got a tumble dryer but rarely use it.
Could you stack the tumble dryer on top of the washer? Or get a heated drying rack? Or have the tumble dryer somewhere else, spare room, downstairs loo etc?

borntobequiet · 18/09/2018 13:17

Washer dryer and dishwasher. I don't get the hatred on MN for washer dryers, mine have all been really good until the latest one, Indesit rubbish

SheriffCallie · 18/09/2018 13:20

Washing machine and tumble dryer. We have all 3 but have been without the dishwasher for 3wks as ours broke, and we are waiting delivery of a new one. It’s been manageable, we just wash up by hand in the meantime. At least you can sort dishes out easily. No tumble drier means piles of damp washing when it’s raining outside. Or drying on radiators, or airers, which means having the heat on more. And emptying the water trap on our drier makes me realise I don’t want to have that amount of water evaporating into the air in my house. It’s a damp problem waiting to happen.
So I’d do without the dishwasher.
