You've only got space for 2 of 3: washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Which 2 would you have?

We've only got space for 2 appliances. Currently have a washing machine and dishwasher but keep thinking we would like a tumble dryer.

Would you rather keep the dishwasher, or swap for a tumble dryer?

Washer and dishwasher. I have a dryer too but only use it about a dozen times a year to finish off a few items in a hurry.

Any decent washer dryer would do, just remember you can only dry about 1/3 of the wash load at a time.

delilahbucket · 18/09/2018 21:39

Washer-dryer and dishwasher. We've had that set up for four years.

BabiesComeWithHats · 18/09/2018 21:42

I would go washing machine and dishwasher, then a Lakeland folding heated airer thing for clothes in winter. I would probably consider getting bedding, particularly the king size stuff, and towels done at a laundrette -but i probably fail the MN Slattern Test on how often i change beds

serbska · 18/09/2018 22:12

I wlike have a WM and a DW and put the TD in another room.

Or have a WM/TD and DW.

HildaZelda · 18/09/2018 22:31

I'd go with washing machine and dishwasher. I only use the dryer for bed linen and towels though. I rarely dry clothes in it.
My dryer is in the shed though because I don't have a utility and only have space in the kitchen for the washing machine and dishwasher.

peachjuice · 18/09/2018 22:38

A question about washer dryers. If they can take 8kg to wash and 4kg to dry.... can you just put in 4kg and wash and dry the whole lot?! Confused

JellySlice · 18/09/2018 22:40

Yes. But with powder, only, not liquid, as you can't leave the dispenser ball in the machine while you tumble.

opinionatedfreak · 18/09/2018 22:44

A washer dryer is better than no dryer!

Wash cycles have always been ok on mine (I keep moving so now own my fourth one).

Drying less reliable but I only use the drying cycle ocassionally!

MacNcheese87 · 19/09/2018 07:19

Yes, you can wash and dry 4kg. Mine has Bluetooth too so I can do it from my phone, if I wanted to. I don't.

The washing machine senses it's half a load and adjusts the time accordingly, then you have the choice of 3 settings to dry it on. Er, kinda dry, dry, and really dry.

I always use half heat because my dryer is so hot. I couldn't be without a dryer.

This is the closest I can find to my washer dryer, it's a bit smaller, mine is 10kg and washes 6kg. https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/laundry/washer-dryers/hoover-dynamic-next-wdxoc-686ac-nfc-8-kg-washer-dryer-white-10166102-pdt.html?istCompanyId=bec25c7e-cbcd-460d-81d5-a25372d2e3d7&istItemId=xqiiwqmqii&istBid=tztx&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~2039%20(PLA)%20MDA%20Laundry%20-%20Washer%20Dryers%20Core%20Keylines%20/%20TV%20Deals~2039%20(PLA)%20MDA%20Laundry%20-%20Washer%20Dryers%20Core%20Keylines%20/%20TV%20Deals%20ad%20group~Exact&mctag=gggoogg7904&kwid=GOOGLE&device=m&dskids=92700036818848904&PLA=1&tgtid=2039%20(PLA)%20MDA%20Laundry%20-%20Washer%20Dryers%20Core%20Keylines%20/%20TV%20Deals&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhLSM7bXG3QIVjbHtCh3wGwP7EAQYASABEgLdWfDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

We could only have ONE in the kitchen so the washer/dryer is going upstairs in a cupboard on the landing (by the bathroom so easy to plumb in) and dishwasher in the kitchen. This was suggested by my MIL - it's only British people who do their laundry in the kitchen, lots of other countries perceive it as unhygenic.

GorgonLondon · 19/09/2018 07:34

I only have space for one and we have a washing machine.

I miss having a tumble dryer.

I really don't understand the angst over dishwashers, washing up is not very onerous.

averythinline · 19/09/2018 07:36

washing machine and dishwasher...
I love my dishwasher hate washing dishes ! would give up a washing machine rather than my dishwasher...

dont have a tumble dryer havent for years (since lived at mums) had a washer dryer for a while but it was rubbish (although a while ago they may be better) and cost a fortune to run
however would consider a washer dryer if lived in flat

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/09/2018 08:04

I woukd go for a washer dryer if possible

We did have one a long time ago and there wasnt a problem with it for many years

But otherwise i would get rid of my dishwasher...i havent read the whole thread so if you have mentioned children and ages that would possibly change my opinion

ShatnersWig · 19/09/2018 08:06

Washer and dishwasher. Then ensure you have a south facing conservatory. Even in a middling summer it'll dry everything in a couple of hours. In a summer like this one it was drying everything in 15 minutes! In the winter, an airer in a room with the central heating on at normal level will dry stuff.

HappydaysArehere · 19/09/2018 09:17

Washer and dish washer. I have a small Creda tumble dryer which I keep in a cupboard but hardly use it. Tumble dryers are very expensive to run so I only use mine for finishing off things so they can be put away. I only do that when the weather is bad and not often.

TheViceOfReason · 19/09/2018 10:23

Washer Dryer and dishwasher.

Our combi washer/dryer was surprisingly good - cannot remember the make though. It did at least 8 years of hard work!

Roomba · 19/09/2018 10:33

Washing machine and dishwasher. I don't have a tumble dryer now as m y old one broke. Managed fine without it and my bills are a lot lower. Couldn't manage without a washing machine though (had to for a few weeks earlier this year and it was hell having to handwash everyone's stuff in the bath then it took forever to dry). Dishwashers save me a lot of time and arguments too.

Roomba · 19/09/2018 10:34

Also, every single washer dryer I've ever used was shite. Took forever and ever to dry stuff and everything came out creased to death. Seem to break more frequently too.

Fatted · 19/09/2018 10:40

Spare a thought for me. I have room for just one appliance in my kitchen! We have just a washing machine. Although I am considering a washer/dryer mainly to avoid ironing 2 lots of school uniform!

We've never had a dishwasher. I've never seen the need.

peachgreen · 19/09/2018 10:41

Can you not stack? I have my tumble dryer on top of my washing machine and it makes me so happy.

AlexanderHamilton · 19/09/2018 10:42

I managed for years without a dishwasher until we moved house.

I couldn't live without my washing machine or tumble dryer.

mostdays · 19/09/2018 10:42

Washing machine and tumble dryer. I can always wash up by hand, but I can't easily dry washing in wet weather without access to a dryer.

MargoLovebutter · 19/09/2018 10:43

That's all I have space for, so I have a washer-dryer and a dishwasher. Works just fine for me.

explodingid · 19/09/2018 10:44

Washing machine and tumble dryer. Never been fussed about a dishwsher and we are a large family.

explodingid · 19/09/2018 10:45

I used to have a dishwasher and don't miss it.
