You've only got space for 2 of 3: washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Which 2 would you have?

We've only got space for 2 appliances. Currently have a washing machine and dishwasher but keep thinking we would like a tumble dryer.

Would you rather keep the dishwasher, or swap for a tumble dryer?

washing machine and tumble drier for me but then I'm at home on my own most of the time and it doesn't take 5 minutes to wash up the few pots and pans I use!!

Bloodybridget · 18/09/2018 16:08

I've never had a tumble dryer, the wm has a drying function we've used twice in five years. But there are only two of us and we have room to dry laundry indoors if necessary - if I had children and no drying space I might prefer a tumble dryer to a dishwasher.

tinofbeans · 18/09/2018 16:21

We have a washer dryer and it's great, I think it's a zanussi, but it might be a Bosch... ConfusedHmm

peachjuice · 18/09/2018 16:26

If anyone who can properly recommend their washer dryer and can post a photo or tell me the model then I'd really appreciate it. Looks like I might be able to have all three after all!

Washer and dishwasher.

Do you have spare closet space or anything like that where you could leave a small, cheap drier when not in use? I did that when I was in a flat. Every so often I’d pull it out and it would sit in the middle of my lounge room for a day or two. I didn’t need it much, but it was worth the hassle of storing it and moving it those days I did need it.

crazycatbaby · 18/09/2018 16:36

I had this problem, I went dishwasher and washer. Then had a baby and swapped the washer for a washer dryer (Bosch series 6, I'm happy with it)

n0ne · 18/09/2018 16:38

We've never had a dryer and don't miss it. The dishwasher otoh could only be removed on pain of death!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/09/2018 16:41

Washing machine and dishwasher.

Washer/dryer was the most devilish appliance I ever had. Never again.

DianaBlythe · 18/09/2018 16:44

I have an AEG washer-dryer. You can’t overload it and it takes a little longer than a standalone dryer but it dries nicely. You can either take a few bits out and hang them up or do smaller loads on a complete wash/dry cycle. I’m happy with it. I would have separate if I had the space but absolutely wouldn’t forgo the dishwasher!

PinguDance · 18/09/2018 16:50

I got a John Lewis washer dryer (which I think are made by aeg) a few months ago and it’s been good. There’s loads available that get good reviews- depends how much you’ve got to spend. They’re not designed to be used constantly to tumble dry though - which is maybe why some MNs don’t like them. You’re not supposed to tumble dry every load you wash apparently- I do bedding and big stuff and use and airer for the rest.

AwdBovril · 18/09/2018 16:55

If you have any outside space at all, I'd honestly go for a dishwasher over a tumble dryer. We have got a washer-dryer, but barely ever use the dryer (it's for emergencies only). We have a yard though, with a line, & 2 airers which are used a lot. No room for a 2nd appliance or I'd get a dishwasher. It's on my list of priorities when we eventually move.

Kenworthington · 18/09/2018 17:01

Washing machine and tumble drier. We don’t have space for all three and I have never had a dishwasher

fussychica · 18/09/2018 17:06

I'd have a washing machine and dishwasher. No competition.

I rarely use my tumble dryer. I've had a washer dryer in the past, personally I thought it was shite, despite it being an AEG whose appliances I'm generally very happy with. However DS has one through necessity as he had no outside space for drying in his last flat. He is very happy with it.

PickAChew · 18/09/2018 17:11

Washer and dryer for us. Kids with sn and a lot of laundry.

If our laundry mountain wasn't as vast, we'd go for a washer dryer (with a 5 year warranty) and a dishwasher.

JellySlice · 18/09/2018 17:12

Depends how many in your family.

Washing machine - definitely necessary, no matter how many you are.

Dishwasher - up to, say, 4 of you, nice to have, but not critical. 4 or more of you, especially if they are mostly very young (ie too young to handwash dishes and pans), and having a dishwasher makes life vastly easier.

Tumble drier - a nice luxury, unless you literally have nowhere to put an airer.

We have a Miele washer-drier. 12 years old and works fine. Excellent washing. Not a brilliant drier, slow and leaves clothes crumpled, but we don't use it unless we have to. We prefer to line dry outside, and only use the tumbler if we have too much laundry to line dry indoors in winter.

AnoukSpirit · 18/09/2018 17:14

Washer dryer and dishwasher.

My washer dryer is a zanussi something or other with a large drum, and it's brilliant. I actually prefer it to when I had two separate appliances. It's easier, and better than what I had before.

Do your research first and it will be fine. I found a trial membership of Which quite useful when I was deciding what to get. (And more helpful than random reviews from people on websites informing you they haven't used it yet but really love the dial...)

Scatteredthoughtss · 18/09/2018 17:19

I don't have a dishwasher.

Kintan · 18/09/2018 17:20

We have a washing machine and dryer in one. Don’t have a dishwasher though and have never really had a burning desire for one

SinkGirl · 18/09/2018 17:22

Never use the dryer on my washer dryer - it’s shit. Would rather lose a limb than my dishwasher.

TorchesTorches · 18/09/2018 17:22

I have all 3. Use dishwasher and washer every day, use dryer about once a year.

EmpressJewel · 18/09/2018 17:39

We have a washer and dishwasher. We are going to buy a compact tumble drier, which we are going to squeeze into the kitchen, somewhere. It's worth considering if you have a cupboard it could go into:

BeeFarseer · 18/09/2018 17:43

I'd cheat. I'd have a washing machine, dishwasher, and a heated airer that could be put away.

I

Blue25654 · 18/09/2018 18:03

We have washing machine and dishwasher. No way would i give up my dishwasher for a tumble dryer. I’ve never known the dryer part of a washer/dryer to work otherwise would have one of those.

Spikeyball · 18/09/2018 18:18

Washer and dryer. We have a dishwasher that came with the house but don't use it.

redsummershoes · 18/09/2018 18:21

dishwasher & washing mashine!
