You've only got space for 2 of 3: washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Which 2 would you have?

We've only got space for 2 appliances. Currently have a washing machine and dishwasher but keep thinking we would like a tumble dryer.

Would you rather keep the dishwasher, or swap for a tumble dryer?

Washer drier for me too, mines just coming up to celebrating it's 8th birthday. And will now inevitably die because I mentioned it! Grin

ArtemisWeatherwax · 18/09/2018 13:20

Lose the tumble dryer. You can always have more clothes/sheets/towels to use while the others are drying. But the dishwasher and washing machine get things clean in a way hand washing is never going to do.

Alwayscommuting · 18/09/2018 13:20

I have a washing machine and a dishwasher.

Rebecca36 · 18/09/2018 13:21

Washing machine and dishwasher but you can buy a washer/drier. I had one when I had less space and it was extremely useful.

dangermouseisace · 18/09/2018 13:21

I had the same problem- went for washer and a dryer. Washer/dryer only dries small amounts so no good for me.

I’ve now got a table top dishwasher too as I was permanently washing up. It helps (but I’d love to have space for a full size one).

ScrambledSmegs · 18/09/2018 13:22

Washing machine, dishwasher and heated airer.

I do have a tumble dryer but it's the least used of our appliances.

ItsLikeNew · 18/09/2018 13:22

if you can't get a combined washing machine tumble dryer. then I for would get a washing machine and tumble dryer. I've lived without a dishwasher before for years. it really doesn't take long to wash pots and everyone in the house takes turns, if you like the fact you can put unsightly odd dirty pots in a dishwasher out the way until it goes on, all you have to do is stick your pots in the washing up bowl and put it under the sink until you wash up after tea or whenever.

drying a families worth of clothes in wet weather in a small place is annoying and can make the air damp unless you buy a dehumidifier but then you still have clothes hanging all over the house.

I've lived without a dishwasher and tumble dryer. I know what made the biggest difference in our house.

Pommes · 18/09/2018 13:22

Can you stack a washing machine and a dryer? I'm sure you've thought of this but it only occurred to me personally recently.

BillywigSting · 18/09/2018 13:22

Washing machine and tumble dryer.

I've never had a dish washer so wouldn't miss it, and while I don't enjoy doing the dishes there are only 3 of us so it never takes long. But having been without a washer and dryer, I can say with degree of certainty that I would miss those!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 18/09/2018 13:23

Washing machine and tumble drier. I can manage easily without a dishwasher but not the others.

BIWI · 18/09/2018 13:23

Can you not stack? Then you can have the washer and the drier stacked, and still have room for the dishwasher.

if you can't, then I'd have a washer drier and a dishwasher.

adviceonthepox · 18/09/2018 13:24

I have a washer and a tumble dryer. Can live without a dishwasher

sexnotgender · 18/09/2018 13:24

I had a Miele washer dryer and it was excellent!
If that’s out of budget I will choose washing machine and dishwasher.

Wouldn’t be without a dishwasher!

Racecardriver · 18/09/2018 13:25

We are in the same position. We have a washing machine and tumble dryer. We considered putting the tumble dryer in the spare bedroom but that would mean taking it up four flights if stairs which seemed a bit OTT. So far we are doing fine without a dishwasher. It would be nice to have one and I must admit I forgot how long dhishes actually take but it's not a necessity. A tumble dryer on the other hand is essential when you live in Britain (I grew up without one in a warmer country), without it we would have the clothes rack out permenantly and things would take a day or two to dry. Druing thins like sheets would vw a pain.

lpchill · 18/09/2018 13:25

I only had space for two we have a washing machine and dishwasher. To dry we put up a hanging pole to hang washing and use a dehumidifier to dry the clothes. Drys stuff overnight with a lot less energy and our clothes last a lot longer.

DaffodilPower · 18/09/2018 13:26

I love my washer-dryer, so I'd go for that and a dishwasher.

I have a Hoover one, and it's fantastic!

DollyWilde · 18/09/2018 13:27

My washer dryer is great but if I had to choose I'd go washing machine and separate tumble dryer. We don't tumble dry a lot but I loathe having sheets draped about the place for days as it's a smallish flat.

We've had a dishwasher in the past but 1) it's only the two of us 2) most of our pans are better handwashed anyway and 3) from experience, getting a dishwasher means you stop arguing about whose turn it is to wash up, and instead you argue about whose turn it is to stack the dishwasher...

MargaretDribble · 18/09/2018 13:29

We had a washer dryer in our old house. It was eight years old when we moved and left it behind, still working.
I don't think they are as good as separate machines, but still better than nothing.

NatashaRomanov · 18/09/2018 13:29

Washing machine and tumble dryer.
If you have a sink, you don't need a dishwasher. And wet laundry drying inside is miserable.

MrsPear · 18/09/2018 13:30

Washer dryers are crap. I only have space for two. In a small flat with no room inside for laundry to hang about plus living in the uk I opted for washing machine and tumble dryer. Seriously it is not that much effort to wash up?! Family of 4 btw

doctorboo · 18/09/2018 13:31

We’ve got a washer dryer and never had any problems with it. So I’d go for a washer dryer and dishwasher. This is the WD ^

DiveBombingSeagull · 18/09/2018 13:33

I had the same dilemma and went for a dishwasher and washer / dryer.

I had heard bad things about washer/dryers but mine is pretty good. It will wash and dry a small load in 45 minutes, and the separate washing and drying cycles perform well.

mastertomsmum · 18/09/2018 13:34

washing machine and dishwasher. Stuff dries easily enough around the hse or in the garden

ICantFindAFreeNickName2 · 18/09/2018 13:36

I would get rid of my oven before I'd give up any of those 3! Seriously I would get a washer / dryer, they may not be quite as good as separate appliances but thy are better than the alternative.

bigsunflower · 18/09/2018 13:39

washing machine and tumble dryer
i only have room for two
