Got a new pair of shoes today for the new season and as soon as I tried them on, DH and I both said 'Ooh, new shooooes!' While the DC looked as us like we'd lost the plot as usual. They are, of course, much too young to remember the Clarks advert but it is ingrained in our memories. Which led me to think about some of the best, most memorable TV ads. Which are the ones you still remember and quote?

“You got an ology? You’re a scientist!”

Yes and all the other Beattie ones. Dh and I love the one in the dress shop with Richard Wilson.

'I thought Madam was a 12?' 'Yes but they skimp under the arms' Grin

PollyFlinderz · 15/09/2018 11:05

Anything with the PG Tips monkeys.

Wonderful childhood memories.

Dancergirl · 15/09/2018 11:06

And also the Cinzano one with Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins -

'Getting your head down sweetie, jolly good' Grin

PollyFlinderz · 15/09/2018 11:09

Coke - 'I'd like to teach the world to sing

I can actually feel my late darling grandad and sister in the room with me at the mention of this ad. It was our song. Thank you.

Chrysalis7 · 15/09/2018 11:53

So many good memories on here.... YES to 'you got an ology? You're a scientist!' And I don't think anyone has mentioned the one for Scotch VHS tapes. re-record,not fade away..... with the animated skeleton voiced by Derek Guyler.

I liked the (Aussie) one for the beer - Castlemaine I think- where they loaded the wagon up with 200-odd cans, and then said 'how about some sherry for the ladies' and the wagon collapsed, and they said 'I think we overdid it with the sherry.' Grin

ALSO, same beer (and the same campaign I think,) they sent a guy into the river to get the beer that had floated out on a raft or something, and he said 'there's no sharks in here are there?' And one guy said 'nahhh.' Then under his breath, he said 'crocodiles ate all the sharks.....'

On another note; did you all know that the R-whites Lemonade chap was the father of ELVIS COSTELLO? Smile

There are some I don't recall that are being mentioned on this thread, (maybe it's a regional thing,) but many of them I do recall, and they have brought back some nice memories. Smile

The cinzano one with Len Rossiter and the awesome Joan Collins was one of my faves EVER.

And yeah I am (like some posters here) old enough to remember the wonderful Coca Cola ad with 'I'd like to teach the world to sing,' playing over it.

Also I liked the Cadbury's ads with the kids with the wacky eye movements and the weird techno track (tho that wasn't that long ago,) and the gorillia playing the drums. (That was when the taste of Cadbury's hadn't turned to shit. Sad )

@BlueTrews27 YEP, I cannot EVER unhear 'you mean I'll only ever be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley!' That was for ad advert for milk I think. Poor Accrington Stanley LOL!

And yeah some ads (including the Acrrington Stanley one) stay with you (I mean the catchphrases,) like 'Made in Scotland from GIRRRDERS!' (Irn Bru.)

ACE thread! Thank you @TheGirlOnTheLanding Smile

Wow I never even knew I remembered this until you posted it, as soon as I read it I could hear the song in my head!
It prompted me to go and look for it on youtube, and I was astounded to find that the words were "you can leave your CARES behind", as like you I always thought it was kids, even though with hindsight that makes no sense at all!!
Just on a side note though - £2.50 admission?! Wish it was still so cheap, my 14 year old has been nagging me to take him for about 2 years but it's so expensive I keep saying no!

QueenOfMyWorld · 15/09/2018 17:39

The aldi teabag one when the hubby goes I like this tea and I like this tea..and the wife goes and I like gin

thesockgap · 15/09/2018 17:39

Adverts were so great when I was a kid (I was born mid 70s) - they nearly always had a really catchy song, or a funny story, or both. As has been mentioned by PPs, I feel a bit sad for my kids who hardly ever even see an advert at all, let alone a good one! I reckon they'd be hard pushed to remember one ad from their childhoods, whereas I could probably reel off over a hundred that I loved!

ShmooBooMoo · 15/09/2018 17:40

Loved these!

QC Sherry advert with the snobby bloke trying to impress the woman with what QC stood for.

Vosene advert with the one red haired girl and dad cocking an eyebrow at the red haired milkman Grin
